ideal for the restful tourist

I went to Gothenburg for a 6 day family visit. The weather was beautiful and the location of this hotel was 10 minutes from the center and a pleasant walk. One clear advantage is low noise and nice views of the harbor and ships spanning 200 years as well as large ferries. The room ( Queen sized bed ) had just the right amount of amenities, though there is much to see and do that the huge flat screen was rarely used. The maid service was very sensitive to service your room, only after you had left for the day. though this area of Gothenburg is easy to navigate, the staff was willing to give recommendations as well. The breakfast buffet was among the best I've had in Sweden with a few types of eggs, few types of sausages, various cold meats, cheeses, cereals, fruits, fresh yogurts and various coffees, teas and juices as well as breads. I particularly liked the fruit cocktail as in addition to some tropical touches as mangos etc, they had seasoned it with fresh spearmint that added to the freshness. The price for the Riverton was about 20% less than comparables and that left more for canal trips and other activities. I'd recommend this hotel.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The Canal trip does a circle around the center city and you are able to stop at any of 3 points and pick it up again, should you decide you need more time to see a site. I believe its around 18 dollars per person but you might be able to get discounts at the hotel. Stop by the Fish Market that is shaped like a Church ( 2 minutes walk from the Riverton )as well as the Ships in Port ( 2 minutes walk ) that span from modern times back to mid 19th Century. If you are a shopper, it's everywhere so have fun and remember that the prices might be a bit high as they include the VAT. People do sleep at night so the sidewalks roll up by 10 with the exception of some bars and clubs.

Lovely place to stay

This hotel had beautiful and comfortable rooms, which were of a pretty decent size, especially considering European standards. Even my single room had a double bed in it. The room also had a large flat screen TV, a small mini fridge, some closet space, a desk, a coffee table, and a large comfortable chair. There's also wireless Internet that worked without a hitch. The hotel cleaning staff were amazing and kept the room spotless daily. There's a free breakfast buffet with lots of food options. On the top floor there's a restaurant with a great view of the river, although the food was a bit pricey in my opinion. The restaurant is open to the public, but the hotel maintains security for guests by requiring a key card for entering any of the floors with rooms. The hotel is located not too far from the city center (it's definitely walkable as I've done that, but it's probably better to take a bus into the city center) and is also located not too far (especially by bus) from the Central Station where I arrived and departed from. (Since I took the train, I don't know what it's like if you're arriving from the airport). My only complaint is that the bathroom has a sensor light that comes on only when you enter the room - fine except that it doesn't sensor when you're in the shower so it will turn off while you're taking a shower unless you stick your arm out of the shower curtain every once in a while and wave it around. A minor issue in an otherwise lovely hotel.

There's a bus stop nearby the hotel that has one or two buses that come around and head toward the city center. However, it can sometimes take a while (up to half an hour) if you miss a bus so I found it easier to walk a bit further to Brunnsparken where there's more buses and trams and then get a ride from there to wherever I needed to go.

An OK place

This hotel is located pretty far from everywhere. The harbor view is pretty as long as you turn away from the power plant. Staff was nice, but there were a number of "summer employees" who needed additional training in order to provide correct information and remember things like requested breakfast to go for early flights.
