Lovely place, would recommend...

Really enjoyed our (late May) stay, however we went as a couple looking for some peace and quiet and the hotel is extremely family orientated. It felt like there were thousands of kids. There is a private terrace for adults only sunbathing but it's right beside a noisy pool area used by families and has no pool of its own which was disappointing. The main pool area is fantastic, really pretty but also packed with screaming children. All inclusive service was great, plenty of food but only one main restaurant and again packed with small children. No options for more intimate meals with waiter service (which we would have been happy to pay a nominal fee for as is done in a lot of resorts). Evening entertainment was also orientated towards the children although the upper terrace did have a solo singer for a couple of hours most nights. Playa del Duque beach was fabulous and only a ten minute walk down the hill. (Get a cab back up if you're not fit :0) There was one thing that irritated us, Club Melia put a welcome letter under our door saying that there was a free gift for us at reception. When we went down they fobbed us off saying there was no one available. We went back the next day and they looked at the letter, sat us down and asked us if we wanted to book any excursions. Our 'free gift' was not mentioned. Would definitely recommend this hotel for families but not for couples. We recently stayed in Melia Lanzarote which has an extra star and was a little pricier but more couple friendly.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Grand Paella Valencia (beside Hotel Jardin Tropical) Is a must for Chateubriand Steak $30 per couple and would easily feed 4. This restaurant looks like any other cafe form outside, but is always packed and well worth a visit.

Enjoyable Holiday

We have stayed at this hotel four times now in 2003, 2005, 2011 and 2013. The food on this last stay for ten days in March 2013 was good and lots of choice but the standard of food was not as good as previous years. The first time we stayed here in 2003 the food was excellent and the restaurant was fully staffed where as now they are under staffed and waiters really are pushed and have to rush about all the time which makes it seem a bit chaotic especially in the evening when you want to have a relaxing meal you don’t want people dashing about between your tables. Also there used to be a head waiter at the entrance to show you to a spare table instead of having to find one yourself. There used to be a dress code which said men had to wear long trousers at the evening meal but last week they let men come in to dining room to eat wearing shorts so standards have relaxed. Having said this I probably would return again as we like the facilities and the staff are very friendly. The entertainment was a mix of good and not so good and we missed not seeing the Flamenco dancers this time!

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

My Daughter and her boyfriend went scuba diving which they would recommend. A rep approached them in the hotel and they collected them from the hotel in a taxi and brought them back.

Not as great as other similar 4* in Canaries

Visited as couple with 7 month baby. Room was ideal (515) as it had terrace opening onto pool area and 1 min from restaurant, perfect for convenience with baby. However! I have stayed in a lot of 4* hotels across the Canaries and in Adeje and this hotel lacked something..... charisma, facilities, dining quality. Food: One restaurant (many other AI's often have other themed restuarants#, and one pool bar. Pool bar food typical burger, fries, toasted sandwiches, small amount of salad. Always cold food. Main restaurant: Always a choice of salads, deserts, meat choices, fish choice etc but certainly no where near the choice and selection I've had at other similar hotels. Food was ALWAYS cold, and often had to wait a short while for freshly cooked meat etc. which wasn't brilliant quality.. Just didn't have enough serving staff. For young children there would be nothing suitable - no specific childrens selections, the only thing they would probably have/want is pizza and fries. Pool area and grounds were ok, clean, sunbeds plentiful #we went in Feb 2013#, only one pool heated #but still felt cool# on the top floor. Child pool not heated, too cold for our 7 month old but top floor heated pool had shallow ends so children also played in there. Also access to microwaves 24/7 in lobby bar which helped with preparing baby bottles and baby food. The hotel is set on the hillside so the hotel and ground go over about 5 floors. If you find walking difficult you would probably get tired of the numerous steps, which also go all around the main pool area #although their are ramps and lifts#, but we found this a bit tiresome with carrying our baby or if we had her in the buggy. Childrens park pretty poor, small climbing hut, could of rockers and a see saw and pretty grubby sand base. kids club seemed "ok" nothing fancy, and kids disco started at 9.15 which is totally ridiculous for children! Bar service - usually OK but some of the bar staff could do with learning how to smile and be a little more polite with guests. Reception staff very nice and helpful. Charge for safe deposit and also 30 euros if want to keep room for extra THREE hours which seemed very expensive if have a late return flight. Hotel is on hillside above Duque beach/resort area. Easily walkable #even with our loaded up buggy) but we are reasonably fit. If you struggle with walking or some strenuous activity you would probably find the walk tasking as the hill is a steep walk back up. There is a courtesy bus to/from beach but we never used it. In summary, this hotel is "ok" but I think if you've stayed in other 4*'s in tenerife, you might find this hotel not as higher standard. Difficult to really put my finger on why, but I just wouldn't stay here again. Didn't have the ambience, friendliness, food was not brilliant and always cold. Hope this helps others when considering the hotel.

great value for money,

being all inclusive it is difficult to get away from a canteen inviroment, but the food was good quality and so much choice, every one catered for. the staff were excellent and very efficient at clearing tables etc. lovely gardens and two large pools with loads of sun loungers.receptionists were helpful and the bar staff always polite. about 10 mins walk to beach but courtesy bus to and from if wanted. hotel built into hillside wonderful views, we were on eigth floor but you enter hotel on fifth floor where the reception, bar, dining hall and one swimming pool was located, there were lifts to lower pool or you could walk through the gardens but lots of steps. overall a great hotel with very large bedrooms and double sinks in the bathrooms. childrens club during day but the evening entertainment was poor. transfers and trips were let down by the fact that being the first pick up meant it was around an hour and half before trip started. watch out for the trip to teide, half day with chance to go up in the cable car, you only get around 15 mins if lucky at the top, not enough time if you want to walk to the top of the vulcano. good part of tenerife if you want to get away from the busy commercial area of playa americas.
