We were switched to the Urban Hotel & it was amazing!

When we arrived in Madrid, the Villa Real was having difficulty with their electricity so they switched us to their affiliate hotel, the Urban Hotel. Everyone was incredibly nice to us, the room was beautiful and they gave us a bottle of champagne & chocolates on our first night - delicious! I would definitely go back to the Urban Hotel again or even to the Villa Real, since they must be of similar quality.

Excellent location and very good quality for money

Location plus quality service make of Villa Real one of the best hotels in Madrid. Amenities are first class and the Villa Real has managed to keep intact those wonderful touches of a first class accomodation.

Location, location, location.

The hotel is good and we'd recommend it to others. Room is clean and the front desk is friendly and capable. Best of all is the location, which is in the "better part" of town and close to major attractions. Good value overall. Drawbacks included: two queen-sized (?) beds that were pushed together to form a large bed, but didn't hold together well; the air-conditioning was not working, but the weather was pleasant and the room stayed cool; there's street noise, but it wasn't really a problem; the internet connection was iffy; the breakfast was extra and expensive.

Not a 5 Star

We stayed here for a few days to cap off our one month luxury tour of Spain in 5 star hotels. We found that a lot of the 5 star ratings are completely wrong. This hotel I would rate at 3 stars. The lobby appears to be 5 stars but we found that it was not indicative of the rooms. We upgraded our room to a suite thinking we would get a luxury experience only to find furniture and walls that were scratched as if it were 10+ years old and not maintained, a smelly room next to the maid closet (therefore noisy in the morning), a bathroom that was equal to a hostel en suite bathroom but with marble counter tops, and the typical two beds pushed together to make a matrimonial size mattress. I was told the upgraded room had a nice view and come to find out the entire hotel could not possibly have a nice view besides a view of the street. Also, 5 star hotels usually include breakfast and this one charged us 18 Euros per person per day. Furthermore, most hostels in Madrid include free internet of which this "5 star" hotel charges a fee. This is obviously not a 5 star hotel. The lobby is nice and so is the restaurant but not worth the money.

Ho hum

The location is great *(the presence of a dozen cops guarding the adjacent Congress building notwithstanding, particularly with the ongoing austerity riots) for checking out Madrid. There's no pool, the art is interesting but hard to get to - have to eat or drink at their bar/restaurant to see it. Rooms are ok but the view into the courtyard is unsatisfying. No pool or gym. Wifi is not free. For the money, it wasn't quite worth it.

Great location

Small hotel but very well situated. We were within walking distance from quite a few attractions (minus the bull fighting arena) and TONS of restaurants close by. The hotel itself was well kept, the staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean with nice hardwood floors throughout. Hotel pool is in a sister hotel down the street.

Steps from the Museums and night life

The hotel was perfectly located to many outstanding landmarks and sights in Madrid. The hotel itself is clean and has an upscale feel although not a ton of amenities. You must pay for in room computer access. There is however a lobby computer with printer all guests can use for free. Personally I didn't care as I was out exploring the city. But the hotel was a nice place to come back to and recharge. The rooms are fine for one to three people. Any more than that and things would get tight. Not sure if they have suites at this location. Overall the staff was helpful and kind. I would definately stay here again as a launching site to explore the vibrant city of Madrid.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

When going to Madrid it's helpful to know there are no street signs on posts at the intersections. All street signs are up on buildings at street corners on tiles. Also I found it helpful to take a tour bus in the am to get my bearings in the city and make notes of what I wanted to visit in more detail. There is so much to see within walking distance of the Hotel Villa Real.
