Palace Madrid

Great location! Nice staff. Has a sense of history as there is a little room or "museo" which relates it's beginnings from 1912. Breakfast was not included , but worth it for 22 euros each. Complimentary room service for tea/coffee once per day was lovely. Our room had a shower control whose steel cap was broken , but placed on the it's broken plastic mount as if it was intact! The reading lamp by the armchair was also not working. The TV did not have BBC . although our son's next door did. We did not bother reception with these until we were checking out. Fantastic glass dome in the dining area and has to be seen to be appreciated. Would stay again as thr location was second to none.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Before buying a "Paseo del Arte" for the 3 museums- Prado/Thyssen/Reina Sofia, find out if there is a free day and what times as it not be worth it to buy it. El Corte Ingles at Puerto Del Sol is a great collection of shops- they will give you 10% discount after producing ID at the customer service desk. Book Casa Patas for flamenco on-line - you get a good table.

Honest review

Beautiful hotel, Great place to sleep. That's it. No value in this hotel chain. free internet? Not in the room nor on your cell. Food and beverage costs are insulting. Fair food for the prices more than twice that of the best restaurants in town, and a drink in the bar for half the cost of the bottle. We stayed in Westin Valencia and same thing goes there. I don't mind the room rate for such a nice place, but really don't ruin it by gouging on extras.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't spend money in hotel for anything, take a short walk and get far better food and drinks for far less money.

Lovely service, not so lovely prices

The service was wonderful - everyone was extremely helpful and delightfully friendly. I do wish though that there were fewer knocks on the door (one person with water, one with towels, one with soap, one to check the minibar...). The prices for food and beverage was very very high ($25 for a cocktail, $40 for breakfast, $20 for a grilled cheese sandwich). Location couldn't have been better - and the beds were heavenly.

Westin Palace, Madrid

The hotel is in excellent location but restaurant is overpriced. Fortunately there is Starbucks nearby as well as other restaurants. The hotel charges you if you pick up the phone and the "free internet" is not free unless you use their business center PC's. You cannot use your own laptop unless you pay 18 euros or about $25.00 per day per machine! Room keys stopped working constantly and are needed to go down in the elevator as well as up so can get trapped on upper floors. Close to the park, and Plaza Mayor, and across the street from Prado museum. Good air conditioning and maid service. Staff is friendly.

Starbucks, VIPS, and an excellent Asian restaurant in the same complex. Starbucks and VIPS have free wireless. Food in the Asian restaurant is excellent and has window seating to watch the tourist traffic.
