Petit Palace Art Gallery

I had great expectations but they were not fulfilled. They advertised the availability of stationary bikes in the rooms but only a couple of them had it. I arrived at midnight and there was no room service or any possibility of getting anything to eat. They could not give me the code for the Wi-FI because the machine that produced it was broken. Probably what I disliked the most was that no alternative solution was offered to me regarding any of these issues (trying to get me a room with a bike, asking me if I was interested on having some food delivered, etc). Finally, I expected it to be a vibrant hotel but at least during my stay I almost didn't see any other guest around.

neat and artsy, lacks comfort

Our room was on the top floor, this resulted in us having a large skylight instead of a window which was sort of disappointing. Our ceiling was partially at an angle which we hit our head on a lot. Room had a neat, artsy appearance with wood beams and a tree design on the bed and bathroom wall. That being said, the bathroom lacked privacy, with just a glass wall with tree designs on the glass, so this made it interesting for us 3 girls. The shower head was very nice. The hotel staff was friendly too, and spoke good English. We were 3 college students visiting Madrid for the first time, so it didn't take much to please us. The hotel is located near Retiro which was very nice as it is a great place to spend time for free or relax after shopping and eating. The beds were a little firm but they were huge! For a triple room we had a full size bed and a king size bed. There was little room to store any clothes so we pretty much lived out of disorganized suitcases. It should also be noted that the website says there is an iPad included with the room, which we did not receive. (We could maybe have asked but we didn't care because we had our own technology.) The website also says that there is a free airport shuttle, which does not exist anymore. I communicated with the hotel over e-mail before our trip and they always responded nearly instantly which was very nice. The thermostat also did not seem to work. Overall, the hotel was neat and artistic, but had some comfort issues. The hotel was sufficient and did not put a damper on our magical time in this beautiful city. The design of it made it more enjoyable than staying in a plain hotel, as it added another foreign element to our trip. If you are looking for a comfort hotel where you will be spending a lot of time, I would not recommend this hotel. If you are looking for a hotel that is neat and artsy to add another element to your trip, I would say go for it!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are looking for something to do that won't break you wallet, visit the vast Parque del Retiro, it is beautiful! There is a little store on the way that we would often pick up picnic style lunches at for dirt cheap. Beers, snacks, and sandwiches!
