Deceiving pictures

The location & maids saved this hotel from a bad review. The location was perfect. It was right in the middle of where we wanted to be. Not far from the center of the shops but not right where all the hustle and bustle was. Great walk to the park and all the main things we wanted to see. The maids were fantastic. They did a great job keeping up with the rooms daily with clean sheets and towels. They refilled the soap stock daily even if we didn't need it. The room itself was a lot to be desired. We had a family room for 3 adults and 1 - 12 year old...WAY too SMALL. We were so crowded. The room was so stale and had no good air-flow. There was an AC but it just blew hot musty air out. The Shower & sink spout was broke and there was mold all over the bathroom ceiling. The is absolutely no privacy in this room. The bathroom door/wall is smoky glass so the people in the room can not only see you but hear everything because the door doesn't close. Forget it if some has to use the bathroom at night because the bathroom light makes the whole room light up from the glass door. They tried to be modern and "High-tech" but failed to keep up with fixing things that broke. You would think the hotel would take the reviews and fix some of the bad things in the reviews. In addition if you are looking to get information ahead of time, forget about contacting the hotel because they don't respond to emails or message. There is no shuttle service from the airport to hotel but a taxi is about 40 - 50 euros (we paid both). Breakfast was 8 euro a person which was ok for a buffet. Not the best but certainly not the worst.

How did this get 4 stars?

The hotel has a strange modern feel. However, there is much to be desired. My room was not clean when I checked in. I found several hairs from other people throughout my room (bedding (several times), floor, desk and the bathroom.) My air conditioner never really worked. First, I would have to get up and turn it on. It would just shut off after running for 10 minutes. The second night I said something and someone did come to "fix it." Now, it just ran and never blew cold air. It was an internal room so air conditioning is needed in the summer in Madrid! The room had a strange odor that only seemed to dissipate with the "blowing" of air from the air conditioner. I went to use the safe behind a wardrobe panel and the hinge was broken and pulled out of the wardrobe. When I called to see if someone could look at it, I was told it would have to wait until tomorrow because no one else was working at the property until the following morning. There was a buffet for breakfast with the room. When i got there, there wasn't any food and it did not look like there was a staff replenishing it; there was a half hour to go until it was over. The wireless connection in my room was highly inconsistent. It would work. Then, it would stop. This was the way it was for the duration of my stay. The people were nice and kind behind the desk.

Best hotel ever!

Petit Palace Alcala Torre is as good a hotel as we have ever stayed in! The room was extremely clean when we arrived and kept clean each day for the week we were there. It was simple and very comfortable; they not only had free WiFi but had laptops in the room waiting to be used; it is the perfect location for Plaza del Sol, Plaza Major, Gran Via and the Prado; but, most importantly, every single one of the staff, particularly the front desk staff, were the most consistently friendly, courteous, happy and helpful staff as I have experienced in 50 years of traveling. They helped make this a very fun trip. All this made the value the highest of any place I can remember. Other hotels are more expensive and some might be as good, but you will not find a better place to stay nor a better value. We highly recommend it. We cannot wait to return!

Good hotel in central location, but pricey and with limited space in rooms

This hotel is in a good, central location in Madrid, although parking is a fair distance away. We had difficulty even finding space to park to unload our luggages as the space directly across from the hotel entrance is reserved only for loading cargo (and there were trucks waiting there all the time!). Our room was for four people, yet when the two bunk beds were down, there was simply no space left to move around the room. Great shower, but again all the bathroom walls are frosted glass, so there is limited privacy.

Last minute booking

We booked this hotel at the last moment through Orbitz. The hotel is located centrally in Madrid and is pretty decent. The room was a bit small but you don't expect anything larger in Europe !

Right in the middle of everything

The view from the room was wonderful. I could walk right across the street to Starbucks and many more small cafes and restaurants in walking distant. I did eat in the conference room one morning but the street cafe are so nice. The city has so much to offer and you can walk or catch the metro in just a few blocks, The museums are in walking distant

Hard to find

This hotel is hard to find because the street it is located on is so small it is not on any maps. It is near the intersection of Gran Via and Alcala, near the Sol underground stop. From the hotel it is a 3-5 minute walk to Plaza del Sol and 15 minutes to the Prado. The room was small but the hotel made good use of the space. There was a small desk with a laptop for your use. However, the laptop restricts the programs you can use and would not let us connect our digital camera to download pictures. The bathroom was nice with a large shower and well lit makup mirror. The walls are very thin in the hotel so you will hear anyone who walks by. In the morning, the cleaning crew starts early and the noise will probably keep you from sleeping in.
