The Santo Domingo Hotel, located less than 100 metres away from the Gran Via in the very heart of Madrid, is surrounded by popular tourist attractions: the biggest commercial area in Madrid and the most important and emblematic sites in the city, like the Prado Museum and Retiro Park, both just 10 minutes away by Metro. The hotel has 200 individually decorated rooms, each with free wireless connection, television, air- conditioning, safe and en-suite bathroom, in a variety of styles, such as vintage, themed or smart, as well as corner rooms or suites, thus allowing our customers to choose the option that best suits their personal tastes and budget. We also offer more than 1,200m2 of naturally- lit space, distributed in 13 multi-purpose function rooms, available for meetings, conventions, weddings and other similar events. Gastronomy is a major reference point and another star attraction of the Santo Domingo. In addition to the Sando restaurant, the hotel provides an alternative way to enjoy the best haute cuisine: Sando s Bar and its delicious pintxos. Both establishments offer a high quality gastronomic proposal for all kind of customers and budgets without the need to leave the hotel. Its majestic 1,000m2 vertical garden, Las Cuevas de Sando cocktail bar situated underneath the hotel, in authentic 16th century caves-, the amazing rooftop summer swimming-pool, with fabulous views over Madrid, and its original car park located within the hotel, each floor decorated with a strikingly original mural painting- complete the charms of a hotel which is, without doubt, distinctive and brimming with attractions.

Dining

SANDO
A fine cuisine at great price; it is a gamble for the raw material that enhances the product and care of the presentation in detail.
LA BARRA DE SANDO
La Barra de Sando is our proposal to enjoy real Spanish tapas with the same quality and dedication from the Sando Team.

Deluxe room very comfortable and quiet. Great location within walking distance of Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. Staff very helpful. Standard rooms are very up to date and comfortable though small. Breakfast buffet is excellent.

Spend time at a cafe on the plaza mayor. Seems like there is always something happening there.

No sleep and bug bites to boot!

The wedding reception taking place directly above my room was so loud the room literally was shaking. This lasted until the party was over...at 6am!!! I did not sleep at all. Best of all I have at least one painful spider bite and a myriad of other "unknown" bites. Not happy!

The good and the bad

The Good: - Its in a great location, within walking distance of a lot of museums and in the heart of a great shopping district downtown. - WiFi in the hotel room is free - Has an incredible pool on the rooftop, which is great if you're traveling during the summer. - Staff speaks several languages, including English - The Corner rooms have an incredible view of the plaza below, and the rooms themselves are beautiful. The Bad: - If you find a really good deal on one of these rooms, be weary: Its likely that they're located in the "classic" section of the hotel, which you should stay away from. The difference between the classic and modern section of the hotel is night and day, and its not worth paying much for. They're doing construction on the classic section as well, so there is a bit of noise. - We upgraded from a classic room to a corner room, which was absolutely beautiful and luxurious. It had an incredible shower with tons of gadgets and different colored lights... but no bathtub! I was looking to soak for a while, and was disappointed when I found out that wasn't a possibility, after switching rooms. - The staff isn't incredibly friendly, but I can't say they weren't accommodating anyway. - THE HOTEL PARKING LOT is EXPENSIVE. We paid 30 Euros to park there for ONE DAY (and night). Don't be fooled into thinking that the parking is included or at least discounted with your hotel stay. You pay for it, 100%! - No Coffee Maker or Iron in the rooms (though an iron and ironing board can be delivered to your room at no charge).

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Do not drive you car to this hotel. If you bring your car to Madrid, find a cheaper long-term parking lot at or near a train station and take the train downtown to the hotel. The hotel has great bus and train stops very close by, and parking is so expensive that it wouldn't be worth it to bring your car. Not to mention, this is a heavy traffic area, especially on protest days!
