Tryp Rex thumbs down

The entrance is below the street level so you have to drag your bags down 3 flights of stairs to get to the elevator, leaving you go back up the 3 flights. There is no help for anyone, old or disabled on the entering of the hotel, so struggle with your bags. There are bedbugs in the rooms, so be prepared to have problems when you leave. When we arrive we were stuck in a small room and had to argue and fight to get a room for 2, even though I paid for 2. STAY AWAY from this one.

We were amazed to be reccomended

We were amazed to be reccomended to this hotel and wondered why. There was no service what so ever and inspite of the reception being a down a flight of stairs, there was no porter to help with the baggage. The rooms were small, hot and noisy. They refused to switch on the airconditioning even though temperature was 31 deg C. The reception staff were unhelpful at all times. The breakfasts were poor and staff surly. We were a part of an international delegation with the invite from Spanish Government. I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone.

Great Location

The Tryp Rex in downtown Madrid was a comfortable, economy type hotel. The rooms are somewhat small, but well furnished and comfortable. There were 2 beds, a desk, a chair, and the bathroom was adequately large with shower and bathtub.Wate pressure was good on the 7th floor. The room had a small balcony from where you cansee the masses of people walking up and down the Gran Via.The room was rather noisy because it faced the street. The room had nice closet, a well stocked minibar and a safe box in the closet. The elevators are tiny and very slow. One elevator accommodates 2 people and the other only 3.The staff was helpful and efficient. The room and hotel were clean. The maid service was good. The towells get refresh twice daily and the beds are turned downd in the evening. This is a good value for your money hotel.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Everything you need is on the Gran Via, shopping, restaurants, hotels, pharmacies, parks, plazas. There is a Starbucks in every block. No Peets and no Mexican food in Madrid.
