Great hotel but could be better

Excellent location on Grand Via with friendly &attentive staff. Rooftop pool area a real bonus in a capital city although it was really busy with no sun beds available so had to lie on floor. Pool bar a rip off @ €5.20 for a coke. Paid extra to upgrade to Club Room which included free food and snacks in Executive Lounge - turned out to be a meeting room in basement with a bowl of crisps & nuts with a bottle of gin, whiskey & schnapps with a few mixers. No tea or coffee etc....... as usual for an "Exec Lounge". Cannot comment on breakfast as we were room only, but imagine it would be expensive compared to the plethora of cafés on the doorstep of the hotel - paid €1.80 for coffee and toast about 250 yards from hotel at café on Grand Via.

Try el mini bar about 5 minute walk behind hotel (just off plaza de Santa Domingo) for great tapas but book table in advance or you may have a long wait.

4*???? No way!!!

The only two good things about Emperador was the location and the rooftop swimming pool. The first shocker was that the WiFi was extra €13 a day. The next morning went for breakfast. I always look forward to a hotel breakkie but it didn't happen this time. As we walked into the breakfast room we were told that our breakfast was the basic one. And that we could "upgrade". We didn't, because hey, how bad can it be, right? It was chocking. No word of a lie- our "basic breakfast" included coco pops, 3 different juices, sliced cheddar, a really pink, processed ham, two different breads, croissants, tea and horrible filter coffee! Not sure how they got their 4 stars but they surely don't deserve it!

Hotel Emperador

We spent 5 days in Madrid and this hotel was extremely well situated. It is close to everything and, overall, we had a great experience there. The rooftop pool was a GREAT place to take a break between all the sight-seeing. The only thing that I would change is that the breakfast was way too expensive (19 Euros a piece) so we didn't try it. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

best location for the price

We really liked the location. The lobby bar is great for the late night cap and their prices are reasonable.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

We appreciated the hint received at the reception to use the sightseeing bus that stops not far from the hotel. We had been in Madrid before but never had the opportunity to see so much of it in such a short time.

We loved this hotel!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was located quite centrally in downtown Madrid. Although our room was small we had a lovely view in the one window we had. A bath tub and a separate shower was an added luxury.

Be sure to check out the small tapas bars as well as the larger resturants. The dinner hour does not really begin until 10 pm so nap in the afternoon.
