Should be 3 stars

While the hotel room was o.k. - it was nothing special, What irritated us about our stay was that the reception was not very service oriented. We were given a room with 3 twin beds when we had requested a king size bed + a single- and they basically told us to put the 2 twin beds together. Then- when we got to the room and it smelled like smoke- we called to complain and they told us the room was "non-smoking" and sent a maid up to spray perfume. On the plus side- the pool and the view from the pool is very nice.

Hotel Emperador

We spent 5 days in Madrid and this hotel was extremely well situated. It is close to everything and, overall, we had a great experience there. The rooftop pool was a GREAT place to take a break between all the sight-seeing. The only thing that I would change is that the breakfast was way too expensive (19 Euros a piece) so we didn't try it. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We really liked the location. The lobby bar is great for the late night cap and their prices are reasonable.

We appreciated the hint received at the reception to use the sightseeing bus that stops not far from the hotel. We had been in Madrid before but never had the opportunity to see so much of it in such a short time.

Nice grand old hotel in a great location. Nice room, chandelier over the bed! CNN wasn't working and the service at breakfast (which was expensive but good buffet selection) was a bit offhand...

A really nice experience; helpful,

A really nice experience; helpful, friendly staff and a fine, comfortable (and quiet!) room right in the heart of the city. Everything worked well; nice bathroom with good bath/shower (Piping hot water!); room kept spotlessly clean. Metro (San Domingo) right outside the entrance (30 mins/€2 to the Airport) and easy strolling distances to all the major city centre attractions. Well recommended!

EXCELLENT LOCATION BUT INDIFEREN STAFF

After a lot of research I choose this particular hotel because it fits my situation (only 4 nights in town) I wanted to see few museums and did not want to spend much time commuting. So I did good, hotel is clean, good location (main busy street) but I had room in the back on the 8th floor that was really ice and quiet. The only problem was wi-fi price 15.35 euro for 24 hours or 7 euro per hour?! Another thing is that staff is very busy with incoming guests and they really don't have time to answer any questions and/or for example respond to your question like can I buy wi-fi time or can you please call taxi for me... You have to wait in line 'cause there are new guests coming and they need to be taken care of. So, management should hire more receptionists because at any given time I have seen one person behind he desk, very few times two and usually they are busy taking to their (local - Spanish) guests and those are really really long conversations, for 3 days I tried to get to talk to bell captain they don't have them - or they are busy with something else). In any event that would be very simple solution hire more people let them work behind the desk your business is booming dont let us wait for hour at the time an for God sake shorten your conversations with locals... it takes forever and they are I feel kinder to local then to us foreigners ... example whenever I was talking to staff they would be finished with me in 2 min but when it comes to locals these chats are forever... and I really mean it forever. My rudimentary understanding of Spanish makes me wonder why why they take so much time with silly questions and details but when it comes to us real strangers staff would give us literally 2 minutes and turn their head away almost immediately... Just plain rude, tat is how I would describe it. Don't ask me why is that I just have no idea... Other than that place is on fantastic location it is clean well kept just really really fine... If you don't mind indifferent staff or let me say "nationalistic staff" foreign tourists are not given care they deserve while local tourists are...

Location, location, location!!!!

We did it all!! Great convenient location made it easy to hop on and off the Metro and the Madrid Vision buses ( I highly recomend these) and walking distance to everything you could think of.. could see the palace and cathedral from the pool area. MOST of the staff was very helpful...hey, you can't have it all. It was overall an EXCELLENT experience.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Yes, you can buy souveniers from the small shops and vendors BUT if you want to save $$$$ just visit the Corte D'Ingles stores..they have everything there for much less, they even have a market/grocery if you'd rather eat light and enjoy the area and not wonder what it is you are ordering or what is that tapas made of??? Just a suggestion, not to knock the restaurants they are great too.
