near atocha train station
This is a lovely hotel - good value - an easy 10 min walk from Atocha train station. Spacious, well designed, very clean. Staff was so pleasant and helpful. Perfect location for day-tripping in and out of Madrid by train. There is also a (yellow)bus that runs every 20 mins from the train station to the airport, so we easily got to the airport at 7:30 am from this location, at a cost of only 2 euro each. The area was very safe - somewhat residential in feel, and there were many restaurants in the area. Less than 10 mins to the Reina Sofia, less than 15 walking to the Prado or Parque Retiro.

the yellow bus from Atocha to the airport (or vice versa) is easy, cheap and reliable. Staying near Atocha station allowed us to maximize our time for trips to Toledo, Cordoba, etc

Skip it until Marriott takes over
Stay away from this place. The arrogant attitude of the staff erased all the other benefits. I had a neighbor shouting into a cell phone. I could not find a number for reception to complain. Therefore, I went downstairs. I hardly got the words out of my mouth before the receptionist said he was a regular and one of their most important clients. I said if they don't handle this, I will. I think I got action with that threat. WHen I needed a taxi to the train station, I was told to stand on the corner with my luggage and one would automatically stop, as they pass by there all the time. I was dumped out on a street corner without a cab in sight. After a few minutes, I spotted ONE and grabbed it. Fortunately, I left plenty of time. On other questions I found the staff at the desk generally inattentive and arrogant. Marriott bought the chain. Maybe these people will ge canned.

Not the greatest place to stay...
First I would like to say the rooms were nice and the housekeeping staff does a great job! I did however feel that the front desk staff was not very helpful and that the hotel seemed to nickel and dime you. Wifi in the room costs FIFTY EUROS!!! I have stayed at 5 star hotels all across the world and I have never seen such high costs. My friend left his passport at a previous hotel and needed to get in contact with them to have them mail it. The staff member checking us in did not want to help and just told him there is a public phone in the lobby for 1 Euro / Minute. After spending 6 Euros on a phone that did not work she decided she would call the hotel from the front desk herself but refused to let him speak to the hotel and then tried to charge him for it!

Great hotel but poor front office staff
Unfortunately, we started off on the wrong foot with staff. We had a problem with our passports and the front office staff would not let us use the telephone to make a few calls. They referred us to the public phone but even that one did not work. Despite the hotel being in a very good location and awesome rooms, the first experience and thereafter just left us with a poor feeling throughout our stay. I can only rate it 3 stars due to horrible, poor customer service.

I enjoyed staying here, it wasn't
I enjoyed staying here, it wasn't near the central city but close to the main train station, if you take the correct way it is only 5minutes away. Wasn't too noisey considering the amount of traffic on the road. The room was nice and modern. Only gripe was wifi was free only in the lobby downstairs and not in the room and no other internet access. The mini-bar was free, there were no alcoholic beverages in the fridge, which may concern some. Overall a great place and the staff friendly, helpful and speak english well at the front desk.

Nice Experience
This Hotel was perfect for us. Clean room, nice neighborhood, within walking distance to the Plaza Mayor, The Palace, Atocha Train Station,Art Museum, and Madrid Tour Bus. Street is lined with bakeries, boutiques, and plenty of places to enjoy the local food and drink. We encountered a helpful, English speaking staff. Room is modern with plasma TV, and a small refrigerator which is stocked with "free, non alcoholic beverages".Work station in lobby. Breakfast buffet, with various offerings ,available for 14 Euro.

Very Nice Hotel - Great Location
This was a very nice hotel. Clean and modern with very friendly staff. It was a little noisy, on a busy street. But the location was worth it as all of the places we visited were within walking distance. The train station and a metro stop were only a couple of blocks away if we did not want to walk. We used the metro after visiting the Palacio Real as it was a bit of a hike after a long day. The breakfast buffet was a little expensive. We went elsewhere for breakfast. I also wish there had been free wireless internet access in the room.

Very good hotel and location.
The room was large and comfortable. The restrooms are also large. For the price we were very happy with the condition of the hotel, cleanliness, and the rooms were made ready daily. The hotel provided daily toiletries. The room also had a small refrigerator with some complimentary drinks and this was a very nice added feature. Be advised that the 2 elevators are small and you can fit no more than four people at a time. If you are using the trains to arrive or depart then the Atochu rail station is within walking distance. Don't worry you do not hear the trains at the hotel. You are within walking distance if you like to some of the museums like the Prado, El Retiro park with the crystal palace and the fallen angel, and to the Botanical Gardens. The other sites like the Royal Palace and Cathedral you will have to take the metro which is close by or a taxi.

If you plan to do a lot of sight seeing buy the Madrid pass in advance, start the day early and plan you intinerary. It is hard to do everything you want in a short period due to tourist lines at some of the locations and places closing down for lunch. If you purchase the tourist pass make sure and check because the Line for entry at the museums, Royal Palace will be differnt then for the general public. This will allow you to get ahead of some of the Lines.

Fair accomodation in Madrid
Nice hotel in the Atocha area of Madrid. Room are well furbished and maintained. Closed to Atocha station, the hotel is a little far from main commercial area (Puerta del Sol / Salamanca area) but it is closed to main museums (Prado, Reina Sofia & Tyssen). Reception is fast but not very welcoming... Ask for high floor room to prevent street noises as the hotel is positioned on a high traffic street. I would reccomend it to everyone looking for a reasonably priced accomodation in a semi central area of Madrid (if you don't like to walk... look for something else).

Short walk from hotel
EMT Bus connect the airport to Atocha station and then it is a short walk to the hotel. This is the cheapest / easy way to reach the city center.
