The hotel occupies a beautiful castle built by the king of Navarre, Sancho Abarca, in the 10th century. The building still retains the appearance and atmosphere of an original medieval fortress and provides a magnificent backdrop to the coastal location. The thick-walled exterior of the fortress belies its beautifully renovated interior. Do not miss the immense, natural beauty of the stonework in the courtyard or the stunning sea views from the terrace and some of the bedrooms, along the French coast. Allow yourself to be drawn into the beautiful atmosphere of the castle as you explore its hidden nooks and crannies, wandering through its arches and admiring the wrought-iron work and offering that adorn the walls and ceilings. Spears, cannons, and suits of armor bring an air of elegance to the comfortable surroundings.

We had an early morning flight and stayed because hotel is less than one mile from San Sebastian Airport. However, we found it is a beautiful historic property with magnificent hilltop view of the harbor. Sits right on plaza in charming walled
city. Excellent restaurants are within walking distance. Staff consistently helpful. Set out breakfast for us even though we were departing before breakfast hour. Only negative: Rooms only had ceiling fans, did not appear to be air conditioned.

A night in an ancient castle. Fabulous experience. Excellent room, great views. They went out of their way to see that we could have some breakfast before our early morning flight. We loved this place.
The word unique is one I never like to use but this building has so much character to it that I will stay there again. The high castle walls surrounding the breakfast area make for a delightful experience in the morning and the hill top location
provided me with a beautiful view of the bay. The staff was friendly and helpful. I say a rare thank you to the dictator, Franco, for converting this into a hotel.
