Area description
Located within the Monastery of the same name, right in the centre of Granada and very close to the Conference Centre, the Macia Monasterio de los Basilios hotel was built over an old morabito (a Muslim convent),by the Bohorquez family,Marqueses de los Trujillos ,in the year 1616. The monastery was abandoned by the Basilios monks in the year 1830 and 30 years later was converted into a college. Here you can almost smell the real student atmosphere of Granada. It offers splendid cloisters which surround the garden and a well, designed by abad Josef de la Cerda in 1681. The hotel is a new building constructed as an annex to the Monastery.

the lobby was as pictured on the internet ([...] the hotel's website). very attractive, what you would expect for the grounds of a monastery. unfortunately, the room overlooked what basically was a high school basketball court, with a very unattractive school building around it and all around the room's view. this said, there may have been rooms overlooking the courtyard (the monastery itself), but we were tired and had just set our stuff down and didn't want to bother going down to ask about changing rooms. given the internet presentation, however, it was about as disappointing as it gets. the room itself was okay, spare but this wasn't the most expensive place. sound insulation wasn't very good, however, and the next door shower sounded like it was inside our own shower (and woke us up, though only 5 minutes before we were waking up anyway).
