Barcelona Hotel Princesa Sofia
The room was clean and was a large size for Europe, it included a fridge. Guest Services/Conceirge were able to speak English for any questions which came up. This hotel was located near the university, away from downtown. I like to walk, but it is too far from downtown or la rambla. Had to take the metro to get near sightseeing places. The hotel was disappointing. As a five star I would have expected the following not to be an extra charge: 1. Wifi was not included. The room had a passcode for 15 mintutes only. 2. The hotel had a nice pool and sauna area. However, I was told it was an additional charge per day of 12 Euros. 3. Unable to get the Aerobus from the hotel, or anywhere in the area of the hotel. 4. The "Top City" listed in the reviews is not a restaurant. It is only a meeting room, so you cannot go up there to eat or view the city. 5. Room service prices were absolutely overpriced.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Small plaza on Ave Diagnol (to the left of the exit of the main entrance of the hotel) had good food. The starbucks had wifi access for 45 minutes with purchase. Also, a small cage behind starbucks plaza was fantastic. They accept visa/mastercard and have pastries/coffee/fresh squeezed OJ for good prices.

July in Barcelona
Very nice hotel. The only thing I thought would have been better was the location. It wasn't near the center of Barcelona, a few subway stops. For visiting, it would have been better closer to placa catalunya. On the other hand, it's in residential part of barcelona so coming back to the hotel in the wee hours of the morning doesn't pose a problem...

Princesa Sofia Gran Hotel is rated
Princesa Sofia Gran Hotel is rated as a five star hotel but in reality should probably be a three plus or four. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel charges extra for use of the pool on site, which was petty I thought.

Very good. Actually much better than expected. I traveled to Barcelona perhaps 10 times in the last 5 years, but first time at the Princesa Sofia. It is much better than I though, including a semi-olympic swimming pool, excellent.

Away from the crowds, and comfortable
This hotel is located away from the crowds of Ramblas, but is convenient by taxi and tour bus. There is always a taxi line outside, the tour bus picks up 1 block away, and there is a nice view from the upper floors. The staff was multi-lingual and quite friendly, and the room was very comfortable. The only complaint is that the pool and jacuzzi are part of the spa, and are not free. The jacuzzi water is barely warm, and the pool attendant said that it is supposed to be 30 degrees, and no warmer, and it closes at 9:30. The breakfast is quite good, and the orange juice is even better, but the drinks at the bar are 10 Euro each. Quite expensive! Overall, I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again, but would have avoided the hotel bar and not planned to use the jacuzzi unless I was planning on a spa experience.

Entertainment tip:
Short walk from hotel
Concierge recommended a bus tour that picked up right by the hotel, and had shorter lines than the other company in town. The logo on the bus was a sunshine symbol (not an eyeball), it was around 21 Euro each, and we really enjoyed it.

I found the hotel location very
I found the hotel location very convienent for my purpose and had a comfortable stay there. The improvements that i think would make the stay more comfortable would be provisdion of an electric kettle in the room with tea coffee making kit. Overall I would rate the stay as very good and I got value for money I paid
