Great spot

Location is awesome, right across the plaza from the gothic cathedral. Thus lots of tourists continuously outside the hotel, however this didn't bother me one bit. My room was on the inside courtyard side facing other rooms' windows, so this could be why it was quiet despite the hoards of people around. The neighborhood is great, lots of old, narrow winding streets, cute restaurants tucked away, and lots of shopping. My only complaints would be that the provided toiletries are very low quality and a few of the front desk staff are a bit stuffy. Overall, good hotel, good value, and great location.

Great location, comfort level not so good

During check in at the hotel we were told Air conditioning does not get turned on in Barcelona until May which was ok because it was in the low 50’s at night and mid 60’s during the day, we could open our balcony doors and let the cool air in. Good idea right, except Barcelona does not sleep, at midnight the 1st garbage truck shows up and empties the trash can banging and making all kinds of noise, at 1:00 am the 2nd garbage truck shows up and does the same thing. At 2:00 am the street sweeper drives back and forth, you hear the noise it makes, then people start going home from the bars so they are walking down the street making even more noise, this goes on until 4:00 am. Yes we could close the windows and it would reduce most of the noise but the room would get hot and sticky. The bed was also like sleeping on the tile floor, it was as hard as a rock. There were several good things about the hotel, the staff was courteous and spoke very good English, it was in a great location as far as sightseeing and the rooms where kept very clean. If we were to go back to Barcelona we would pick a different hotel. Our recommendation would be if you stay at this hotel bring a fan so you can keep the windows closed and ask for extra bedding to help make the bed more comfortable.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Barcelona has a bad problem with pick pockets and petty thieves; this was told to us by many people who work in the stores.

Very Very Very Goooooooood place to stay!!!!

Hotel is very nice !!!!! , Staff is very friendly !!! It's very clean !!!!! Location doesn't get any better, everything is at walking distance. There is a magnificent Cathedral across the plaza...I'm not mentioning stores , restaurants, coffee shops .......... Downsides are that the building is kind of old but it is very clean. Breakfast is expensive , but there is plenty of places You can have a breakfast near by.... Can't go wrong, one of the best places in Barcelona if not the best !!!

Comfortable hotel in excellent location

The hotel was well located right in the centre opposite the Cathedral and close to all amenities. The staff were all very pleasant and curteous from beginning to end. If we were to add any negative comment it would be the disappointing standard of food in the hotel restaurant. which was over priced for the quality and presentation. However, the staff and service itself was very good. There are plenty of good eating places within easy walking distance. We would stay there again.

Do try Taverna del Bisbe (just opposite) for all your meals during the day as they provide breakfast, lunch and evening meal service. Always made to feel welcome.

Great Location

We were in Barcelona for three days at the start of a ten day trip in Spain and the south of France. We chose this hotel for its great location across from the Cathedrial. The location was very convenient but we found that we had to leave the area to find good food and nightlife. If you want to be near the tourist attractions the location is great but if you are a foodie and into nightlife, I would go elsewhere. The hotel was clean and well kept but dated. The rooms and halls were kept very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. Most members of the staff spoke English. The hotel restaurant was very expensive but there were a few good places nearby for breakfast. The hotel is worth a try.

Great location, less than perfect...

The hotel was in a perfect location (central location and short walk to all the main attractions) but it was noisey. Music from the outside was nice to hear but walls did not keep noise from surrounding rooms out. Also, our room was left open one day by the cleaning staff. All in all, the hotel accomodations were average.

Hotel Colon, Barcelona

Hotel was nice and clean. Room was very clean with nice view of the cathredal. Most of the staff was very helpful; a couple of them were not helpful. Hotel did not provide coffee or a coffee maker; what a bummer. There was no ramp to get large suitcases up and down the front stairs.
