Very Very Very Goooooooood place to stay!!!!
Hotel is very nice !!!!! , Staff is very friendly !!! It's very clean !!!!! Location doesn't get any better, everything is at walking distance. There is a magnificent Cathedral across the plaza...I'm not mentioning stores , restaurants, coffee shops .......... Downsides are that the building is kind of old but it is very clean. Breakfast is expensive , but there is plenty of places You can have a breakfast near by.... Can't go wrong, one of the best places in Barcelona if not the best !!!

Comfortable hotel in excellent location
The hotel was well located right in the centre opposite the Cathedral and close to all amenities. The staff were all very pleasant and curteous from beginning to end. If we were to add any negative comment it would be the disappointing standard of food in the hotel restaurant. which was over priced for the quality and presentation. However, the staff and service itself was very good. There are plenty of good eating places within easy walking distance. We would stay there again.

Great Location
We were in Barcelona for three days at the start of a ten day trip in Spain and the south of France. We chose this hotel for its great location across from the Cathedrial. The location was very convenient but we found that we had to leave the area to find good food and nightlife. If you want to be near the tourist attractions the location is great but if you are a foodie and into nightlife, I would go elsewhere. The hotel was clean and well kept but dated. The rooms and halls were kept very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. Most members of the staff spoke English. The hotel restaurant was very expensive but there were a few good places nearby for breakfast. The hotel is worth a try.

Great location, less than perfect...
The hotel was in a perfect location (central location and short walk to all the main attractions) but it was noisey. Music from the outside was nice to hear but walls did not keep noise from surrounding rooms out. Also, our room was left open one day by the cleaning staff. All in all, the hotel accomodations were average.

Hotel Colon, Barcelona
Hotel was nice and clean. Room was very clean with nice view of the cathredal. Most of the staff was very helpful; a couple of them were not helpful. Hotel did not provide coffee or a coffee maker; what a bummer. There was no ramp to get large suitcases up and down the front stairs.

Loved it
This was our first time traveling to Europe, and after our Mediterranean cruise, we needed to spend one night in Barcelona before our flight home. Our travel agent recommended the Hotel Colon, a place she has also been to, and we're glad she did. The hotel lobby was all marble, and the english speaking staff was very helpful. To our surprise, we were upgraded to a corner suite, with a large living room separate from the bedroom, and a grand bathroom (whirlpool tub, bidet). Even better was our direct view (from our 3 balcony doors) of the cathedral. We spent our day following the map they provided, touring the sites of the Gothic district and port area. Wish we could have stayed longer !

We recommend learning some Spanish phrases, as not all the taxi drivers know english. Also, be aware there's a dress code when touring churches (no bare shoulders or sleeveless tops, no cleavage, and no short skirts or shorts).

Perfect location but SLOW!
We were going on a cruise out of Barcelona and had planned to stay at Hotel Colon one night before and one night after the cruise. When we arrived for the first night to a chaotic lobby full of people trying to check in--we were told(after waiting at least 20-30 minutes) they had overbooked and were sending us to another 4 star hotel around the corner. We were sent to Grand Hotel Central where the check in was prompt and we were pleased with the room and hotel location. An employee from Hotel Colon walked us to Grand Hotel Central and did help us with our luggage. At this point we were so tired from the overnight flight that we did not complain. After the cruise we went to Hotel Colon and this time we did get a room. The check in process was still extremely slow even though it was not as crowded as the first time. Our room was not ready so they were going to hold our luggage. We waitied at 30 minutes for someone to come and get and luggage. We returned to the Hotel at 4:00 and were given a room facing the Cathedral which I believe was an upgrade. Although the room was nice we found the entire check-in process to be very frustrating. The location is great but I think we would probably go back to the Grand Hotel Central before trying the Hotel Colon.

Try something new that you have not eaten before, in a restaurant that the locals use, not a tourist trap. Chances are you will have a fabulous meal at a reasonable price

Arrived at the Colon hotel on 3/25/11 at 9:ooam I asked them if the would store our baggs as check-in is at 2pm, I was told that they have a room they could give us now. I paid for a standered room but the up-graded us to a deluxe room looking at the square with veranda. GREAT staff, Great room, Will go back.
