Smelly room
The location was fantastic, no doubt about it, and that is why I booked here. We stayed at 5 different hotels ([...]) all thoughout Spain and this was by far the least impressive. The rooms were small and cramped. When we first arrived we got to a room the size of a matchbox with a bed that was about 5 feet long and not even that wide and went down to the front desk to tell them we had requested two twin beds, he kind of chucked the key across the counter and blurted out our new room number (looked like he was expecting us to come back and complain). There was practically no customer service at the front desk until the day we were leaving. The hotel had a really stifling smell, like olive juice and vinegar, not sure if they washed their linens in vinegar but we got all of our clothes laundered when we got to Malaga because we couldn't stand the smell any longer. Too bad because this place has soooo much potential!! If someone would just come and give it a facelift!! They have a great 'rooftop' patio that we never used but looked very inviting. Internet access was good. Would I stay here again? No.

Beautiful
Hotel Granvia is a Georgious Hotel. The photes do not do this building justice. Other then one desk clerk I really didn't have a problem with the staff, but that is the closest thing to a con about staying at this Hotel. Its located on Gran Via and just a couple of minute walk to great shops. My husband and I walked from the Hotel to the beach and it took less then 25 minutes.Granvia is located in a safe area. The Rooms were clean and the bathroom was larger then some that we have stayed in, in Europe. Nicely decorated, would stay again.

Watch for siesta times. Its nice having a break in the middle of the day though. Most shops are open until 9pm. Unlike some countries in Europe that close at 4pm.

Outstanding Location and Service
Comfortable and exceptionally clean (particularly considering the hotel's age). Great character inside the lobby, salon and patio areas. If you are a weary, fast-moving, backpack style traveler, this place will meet/exceed your expectations for the money. And to boot more room space than your average European double room. The staff from check-in and throughout was very helpful and conscientious. Asked in advance for a quiet room (not overlooking the busy Granvia street) and they had the room waiting for us as planned - didn't even have to ask. Awesome considering these details often get lost. And, if you are an English speaking guest in Barcelona, Granvia is excellent choice for information around the city. I suspect they know their core customer. Only drawback is that if you are traveling with a significant other, good chance your double room like ours will not be able to have the two single beds placed together due to a built-in wall night stand. And the breakfast was a little much for our grab-and-go AM tastes, although still reasonable at 7 Euros/person.

Old-world elegance in a great location
The Granvía is right in the heart of everything. It's only a block from the Plaza Catalunya. There is a metro station extremely close, as well as the Ramblas. The Corte Inglés is on the next corner as well as many other fashionable shops and stores. The neighborhood is loaded with wonderful restaurants and cafes. As we are opera buffs and had tickets for the Liceu, we were thrilled that we could walk there from the hotel.

FANTASTIC DESK
The Granvia was in a fabulous location within walking distance to the entire Rambles right down to the water. The father and son team that ran the desk were superb people. They were friendly, helpful, spoke wonderful English, and recommended some great places to eat. The front rooms have a little bit of city noise until about midnight and we had trouble with our room phone. Other than that we had a great stay and would recommend highly to anybody looking to see Barcelona.

Short walk from hotel
Gran Via is a delightful avenue to walk and the Place De Catalunya is only 2 blocks away. That is the beginning of the Ramblas which takes you to the Gothic Quarter, the markets, the flower merchants, the mimes, the bird merchants, etc. etc.
