Taxi drivers are using the longer ways, use google translate and give left and right directions to the drivers if you have gps. Otherwise most of them dont know the shortest path and even using extra long paths, really needless paths.

Lexington Hotel Experience

As one who usually stays in two or three star inexpensive hotels, it was a pleasure to stay at the Lexington. I was with a team member coming in to Korea and the room had a new atmosphere and a clean smell. The hotel is located very near two different Starbucks and a good number of other small bakery/coffee shops are near. For me it was a treat to have the worlds famous Yoido Church right across the street. I felt we received a warm professional greeting from the desk staff as we entered and wonderful service from them throughout our stay. During my return stay, two weeks later, there was a peaceful candlelight demonstration in the evening street and I was given a candle when I came to watch. The police were on guard and let me take photos. I felt very safe. In the morning that same area became a set for a local tv show or movie. I sat at Starbucks and watched the action. I liked all the Koreans I met. Seoul was a friendly place for me. The negatives; I found the hotel eateries too expensive for my budget, and my return room had a strong musty smell. I requested a room change but none was available. I was allowed a late checkout to go to the Sunday church service and the #6030 airport bus picked me up outside the hotel to go to my flight at the Inchon airport afterwards. This is about a 50 minute ride. The subway is also a few short blocks away from the back entrance and we used it to go to a city bus tour route. Yes, I would be happy to stay at the Lexington again, but I would hope for a bit nicer room, if possible.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are looking for quality dining, the hotel has a number of nice appearing restaurants. If you are on a tight budget, there is a large group of food places, including a 7/11. Right out the back door, we sat at an outside restaurant table and had food, coffee and ice cream on the street.

dark and lonely

this is an old hotel catering for business and church groups, however, have not renovated in recent years so in terms of cleanliness and liveliness, it is old, dark and not up to date. The lobby wifi was not working, and room service stops after 9:30pm which is quite inconvenient for business travelers.

Good location and high value!

I have been staying at this hotel a few times over the past year. I like the location (close to the National Assembly, close to the Han River, many restaurants and metro stop). You can go to almost any place in the central Seoul (Gangnam and Gangbuk) within 30 minutes of metro ride or taxi. Good value for money. Friendly staff. Comfortable room, wireless internet in rooms, etc.

easy transportation

The hotel was very nice with airport transportation right to the hotel. Subway was about 5-10 minutes away. The location was about 30 minutes from the city. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They could speak English. They were nice enough to upgrade us to an executive suite, because the room we were in did not have internet working. The only problem with the room was the hard bed. Wish it was more comfortable.

Wonderful New Year's in Seoul

This has to be one of the best kept secrets of Seoul if you're trying to be practical. Hotel staff were very friendly, not very far from Myeong-dong, Yongsan-gu, and Gangnam-gu. Subway station is also close by. The room was a bit small but very homey. It almost felt like a 5-star hotel. Great selection of restaurants too.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If you're trying to be practical, the subway is a better choice than a taxi. Don't be afraid to try it. They have English translations so you don't get lost or miss your station. The subway runs all over Seoul. Ask the hotel for a map of the subway so you can see which station to get on and off before hand.

Overvalued

This hotel in principle is pretty nice, but I would say it is overvalued other than the capacity to hold large gatherings and its location.

You need to upgrade to get a decent room

When looking at reviews for the Lexington online, I found them to be very polarized -- either very low, or fairly high. I had booked my room based on a recommendation from a colleague who had stayed there in January, and found it to be quite nice. After seeing my room (on the 9th floor) upon check-in, I found it was very rundown and had seen better days. The rug was grungy, the bathroom was quite basic and the A/C was barely functional (which was an issue considering it was about 35C outside). There was also a very musty/smokey smell coming from the hall way (this was a non-smoking floor) The second day we complained to the front desk about the condition of the rooms and my colleague mentioned that he had stayed on the 13th floor last time, and the rooms were much nicer. The staff informed us that those rooms were an upgrade, and would cost 33,000 KRW a day to upgrade (about $25), which we agreed to. What a difference -- it still wasn't 5 stars by any means, but much nicer, better furnishings, no smell, and the A/C functioned better. The first room looked like it hadn't seen any maintenance since the 80's, this one looked to be reasonably kept up. Location wise, it is no where near the tourist area, if that is what you are looking for. 10 minute walk to the financial district (which was convenient for us), but if you are nervous about not being able to communicate, you might want to look else where (hotel staff were fine, but many restaurants in the area require you to be adventurous and deal with non-English speakers)

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Do not bother with the breakfast buffet in the hotel. It is about $15, and not worth it. They had a couple of items of fruit, a little bit of ham and sausage, and a few other items. Instead, I recommend heading out the back of the hotel to one of the places back there -- Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Dunkin Donuts are a short walk away, and have better offerings for about a third of the price.
