Kedar has an attractive outdoor pool with sunbathing area as well as a terrace where guests can enjoy a drink. The hotel has an excellent spa that juts over the wetlands and offers a wide range of treatments. This historic farm hotel covers over 700 acres has been game fenced and populated with a wide variety of game. Seemingly a national park in itself Kedar is a fantastic place to get away from it all and to use as a base for exploing the excellent surrounding attractions. There are good conference facilities at the hotel as well as free parking. (AHJ 0408) Lodge style accommodation spread out over several acres of land. Each building is descreatly hidden away with the many trees in the grounds. Situated just outside Rustenberg amongst the mountains and only 15 minutes from popular Sun City and Pilansberg Mational Park, Kedar Country is only one and a half hours drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

An OK stay...

The hotel was in a secluded area outside of Rustenburg. This was actually nice since I never heard a positive story about the town the entire time I was there. When I checked in I made mention that although I had indicated there would be 2 people, it was only myself and asked politely if I could have a single room rather than the double I was booked for. The receptionist said, "Yes, of course" but I was accomodated with the same room that was originally booked. The room was spacious and rustic; stone flooring, thatch room, private shower and bath. The beds were very UNcomfortable. I actually was glad I had a double room because I padded my twin bed with the bedding from the other bed! The breakfast that was included was delicious and I'd highly recommend it even if you had to pay. I didn't check out the bar or the dinner because I was not in the area during the evening. The area was under a lot of construction which was a bit off putting plus there was either the sound of planes constantly though the night or semi trucks off the highway. I couldn't tell the difference. I am a heavy sleeper but it was very noisy despite being very seculuded. In general, I enjoyed my stay although I felt they could have been more accomodating. I understand that the conversation about the room was probably a language barrier. Regardless, I'm hard pressed to find this a 4 star establishment despite SA standards vs. American. There were quite a number of other SA 4 star hotel with much better accomodations. That being said, the price was right so I'd recommend this hotel for someone looking to travel between Johannesburg and Sun City without the Sun City prices. The location was perfect.

Beautiful place and gracious service

Beautiful rooms with character, including thatched roofs and stone-lined showers. The grounds had gardens, ponds, birds, with plenty of places to relax and enjoy. Gracious and friendly service. The hotel is situated on a game park (with non-predatory animals only), so we enjoyed long walks including zebras, giraffes, impalas, etc. 20 minute drive to Pilannesburg and the Big Five! I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Kedar Country Lodge

The location was perfect for our convention in Rustenberg and then 2 days of game viewing in Pilansberg Park. Food was excellent - the evening buffet changed daily. Breakfast and Dinner were buffet style with hot and cold items. Service was excellent, room was beautiful - including a stone shower. I would highly recommend this accomodation.
