Review of Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton, Johannesburg

First there are two Radisson Blu hotels within a mile of each other, which was peculiar. We were taken to the wrong one by the hotel provided driver we paid for. I felt the hotel staff were either too eager to please, and therefore did not allow
us to clearly explain requests we had or questions on services, menu or tours, or they have yet to learn to be more patient in listening. It was quite annoying on several occasions to have to interrupt them as they began to respond to something that was not even close to what we were talking about. Part of it was probably due to English not being the staff's first language, but part of it can be corrected with better training of staff.
Their room service and restaurant menus were very limited. No one seemed to understand what we wanted when we asked for ice cream. Never got a clear understanding if they called it something else. Was an extensive ice cream shop in the nearby Mandela shopping mall.
Besides communication issues, it was an OK experience. The room AC vents could have been cleaned more frequently. Didn't seem the carpet was vacuumed every day. There were only 2 drawers for putting away clothing. Not nearly enough for 2 adults staying 7 nights. Not enough hangars in wardrobe. Shower door leaked water outside on bath floor. No ice machines though room service brought ice when requested. No iron or ironing board in room. We made the mistake of not getting a good electrical converter before arriving in Africa and we were unable to find one for U.S. connections anywhere locally. So be sure to bring a converter with you if you have electronics needing charging such as phones, tablets, computers, cameras, etc., especially if you are coming from the U.S.
Even so we really enjoyed visiting Johnannesburg and had a great time on the tours we took.

Nelson Mandela Square is surrounded by a number of good restaurants that have reasonable prices. Also there is a HUGE shopping mall there with multiple levels of excellent stores just like those found in Europe and the U.S.
