Colourful De Waterkant Village is a unique European influenced village of semi-detached quaint cottages and cobbled streets preserved from the 1760s. Cradled between the city and the Waterfront, De Waterkant Village is avant-garde, a cultural urban refuge highlighted by the abundance of restaurants, art galleries, gay clubs, salsa clubs, tapas bars and Parisian inspired cafes. Famed for being a gay friendly hub, the village is within walking distance of bars and fashionable nightspots. Drawing comparisons from cultural and artistic villages from all over the world, De Waterkant embraces individuality and theatricality, echoed in the architecture and vibrancy of its residents and visitors.

Most cottages, guest houses and apartments in De Waterkant Village boast views from Asian inspired roof top terraces, that sweep all the way down to the V&A Waterfront and across to Table Mountain. The mixed Georgian, Cape Dutch and Asian colourful architecture, cobbled streets and historical standing is what makes De Waterkant Village so unique. De Waterkant is often described as being arty, charismatic and quaint and is a truly special place decorated with gorgeous al fresco restaurants, sidewalk cafes, boutiques and bars and is often compared with Greenwich Village.

Apartment in picturesque historic area

The De Waterkant approach incorporates a wide range of accommodation. Ours was a small ground floor maisonette with a shared rear garden and sunny terrace. The manager was extremely helpful and we were made to feel very welcome. The area has a very good selection of restaurants and the new Cape Quarter complex which is well worth a visit. The only downside was that the unit got quite cold during our stay in the winter. Highly recommended.

The Voila restaurant in the Cape Quarter complex is relaxed but sophisticated with excellent baking, food and sandwiches. The terrace is a lovely place to be for a relaxed lunch or tea.

Doesn't feel like a hotel room!

Great location where you can walk to many things. Check-in was a breeze and after that it felt like living in a flat (with a maid -- except on Sundays). Easy street parking and also close to LGBT night life. Highly recommended.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Beefcakes and Crew Bar are the two (bigger) gay hangouts. Although beefcakes is crowded with bachelorette parties, we had the most fun there.

Great Location

De Waterkand Village is an interesting hotel arrangement. Consists of several apartment style rooms in various buildings in close proximitry. Seated at the base of Sentinal Mountain in the former slve district of Cape Town. Staff was wonderful and fully accommodating. Rooms were very spacious with comfortable queen size bed. Bathrooms very clean with a great shower facility. Kitchen area was complete with all utensils needed and for several days one would have everything at hand. Not a hotel in the strict way as there are not in house restaurants nor room sevice amenities. Parking could be a problem but we were lucky with available street parking in front of our building. For the price the accommodation is definetly worth it.
