Bad plumbing,bugs and attitude

My sister and I went for a six day well deserved getaway from family medical problems and stressful work schedules at the hospital,we finally got time off together to go and relax. Based on internet reviews we chose Palm Court. We did not rent a car because we were staying near the beach and got a good off season rate to stay within our budget. The taxi dropped us off at the front gate and a car coming through entered the code to open it and we went to the front desk to check in. No one helped us with our luggage just given the room key and pointed to our room It was a long flight from Cleveland but since it was 5:00 we wanted to check out famous Orient Beach and walk in the ocean. Arriving back at the room 2 hours later we went to shower and clean up but there was no hot water and nobody in the office to help us. We went to get some pizza at Safari and it was pretty good and went back to the room to rest so we could get up early and hit the beach. The TV only had French channels, so we played cards and went to bed. Waking up the next morning I had insect bites on my legs and stomach, we had hot water and showered but when the toilet flushed sewage came out the shower drain yuck! The free breakfast was not bad but when we said good morning to the French people at table next to us we just got a cold stare so we just looked at each other in disbelief . When the office finally opened I told the woman there about our problem last night she seemed to not care and told us the maid would take care of it. We went to the beach and I forgot the sunscreen and I went back to the room I talked to the maid about last nights problem and she told me that it happens sometimes and she would tell the guy who handles that stuff. The small window in the little toilet room had a screw in it so that you can't open it. I found out that this was because of a robbery a few weeks ago and that is why they have barbed wire around the place. We had a wonderful day at the beach and returned to eat at Bikini Beach Bar that evening, walking back to the hotel the area seemed to be a little on the rough side and that's why the security gate was there. That night the a/c started making a noise and had a funny smell, we shut it off and the room was hot . The following AM I went to the office and asked to change rooms and got a huffy answer, but we were moved to another room that had better plumbing and a/c and now everything should be OK right? That night we went to the food court and had Italian food and some wine returned to new room to play cards and went to sleep. About 11:00 some woman was banging on the door and screaming in French we were afraid to open it, a few minutes later we could hear doors slamming ,glass breaking and loud arguing in the room next to ours. What to do , nobody in the office and we did not understand the phone system this was upsetting to two girls from Ohio that had never been to a Caribbean island. Finally we got to sleep and woke up the next morning and saw the guy from the next room sleeping in a hammock with an empty bottle of wine next to him as we looked down from our balcony. What kind of dump are we staying in my sister said, so after breakfast we went to buy some sandals at a little store and spoke to a lady who was at another nearby hotel who suggested the Grand Blue. She took us to speak to the manager Gerard who shook his head when he heard our story,he offer us a great rate to stay for the remaining 3 days and we accepted his kind offer. The woman got her husband to help us with our luggage to check out of the horror show Palm Court. When I went to check out and spoke about last nights incident she told me that this is a small French hotel and she has no control over guests actions and maybe it is best that we leave since we are so unhappy, in a very harsh tone. The rest of our vacation was very enjoyable at the Grand Blue. I suggest that Palm Court should be avoided at all cost . Monika S.

Good Find

Good hotel over all. The room was clean and comfortable. The pool, breakfast area and grounds were very well maintained. I loved being in walking distance to Orient Beach and various resturants. The hotel dog "Poopie" became a new best friend to us. Leave the kids at home. This is an adult vacation.

Le Piment excellent Italian food- salads, pizzas, entrees, for reasonable prices. it's easy to see why this place is so popular, so be prepared for a possible wait for a table.

First rate

We loved our room and bath. It was clean, stylish and very comfortable. The staff is friendly and very accomodating. We had a pleasant breakfast by the pool each morning and met some interesting people also staying there. The beach was a 2 minute walk and Orient Bay Village was about the same. There are several great choices for dinners right there. We lost power a couple of times but that was due to a storm that knocked out power to pretty much the whole island. They said it was most unusual. All in all it was a great, relaxing stay.

While the restaurants in Orient Bay were terrific, they're also expensive. For an inexpensive meal I'd recommend going to nearby Grand Case and try one of the open air BBQs called LoLos. Our favorite is "Talk of the Town". You can have a plate of ribs, and 2 sides for just $8. That's the only food bargain on the island.

The Best!

This was our third trip to Saint Martin, and our third stay at Palm Court. This perfect hotel is set in lushly landscaped grounds that seclude it from everything! The rooms are clean and smell wonderful! They are larger than most hotel rooms, and we love the large shower room! Location, location, location.....the hotel is a block away from the little French Town and Orient Beach. We walked to the beach everyday and to the restaurants at night. The hotel provides a tasty breakfast in the morning that is included in the price. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We asked for them to arrange a taxi to the airport on the morning we departed, and the taxi was right on time. We would never stay anywhere else!

Peaceful Paradise

We so enjoyed our family vacation at the Palm Court Hotel. The staff were super nice, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. We especially liked the daily breakfast by the pool, and the afternoon crepes/cocktails! It was very quiet and relaxing, and just a quick walk to the gorgeous beach!! I am so glad we chose to stay on the French side, and so glad that we stayed at Palm Court!! Can't wait to go back!!!!

very reasonable and enjoyable

This is a great little gem that is 5 minutes form one of the finest beaches in the world. The staff is very responsive and there is a a la carte breakfast 7 days a week. You are also just minutes away, walking, from several very good to excellent restaurants, two markets, ice cream store and other various stores. The rooms are large with balcony. I plan to stay there again next year.

Charming, easy, relaxed place to stay

Palm Court Hotel provided the simple charm and convenient, relaxed atmosphere we were looking for on our week long vacation. The clean ground level junior suite we reserved had a pool view porch made private with lush plantings. The firm bed, simple but serviceable bathroom, and tiny kitchenette gave us the conveniences we enjoyed. Breakfasts served every day by the pool were delicious and offered everything we were interested in. Casual dining with excellent food and the beach were short walks away. The attentive staff, particularly the chamber maid service made the Palm Court Hotel experience memorable. We will be back!
