Nice enough

The Alamanda is right on Orient Beach. Alot of nice beach bars. Not much night life, just a little village out the back door that does have quite a few restaurants, all of which were very good. The rooms were clean, although the showers were just hand held and no shower curtains, a little strange, the floor was always soaked after a shower. The pool is small and I never saw anyone in it. The Alamanda is plain and simple - no frills - no bar, no lounge, not even a vending machine. Be prepared for the high cost of everything on the beach and at the restaurants.

Great location

Hotel staff very helpful and courteous. Check-in quick and easy. We were given a choice between two rooms and oriented to room. The lady serving complimentary breakfast is the best! Patio fairly private and large with comfortable lounge chairs. Beach about 50 yards away with included beach loungers, umbrellas and waiters bringing drinks and food.

January Get-away

This is a nice hotel next to a stupendous beach. The location was perfect. If you drive yourself from the airport at night, make sure you get good directions as there are no road signs and the resort is not marked from the road. Access to the beach was great and restaurants were right next door. If your looking for R&R this is perfect for you. Access to other activities is available also. We'll go back.

could be a nice resort on the beach

Our stay was generally comfortable. Continental breakfast was excellent. The room and patio were large and airy. Desk staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Arnaud was over-the-top. Cleaning staff could use more training. Crew had no idea what door signs meant for when to come clean the room. Maid completely ignored "early" sign. We had to ask 3 times to get it done. Very noisy at night. Location is off the restaurant square.

GREAT LOCATION....DATED HOTEL.....NEEDS TLC

The location is great, hotel is nice but dated and you can tell management is very laid back...no manager or supervisor is checking the rooms. The cleaning is basic, mopping and toweling the bowl and sink. And if you forget to tip, they will forget to replace the soap, and will not touch your glasses or any other dirty ware in the sink. The room is filthy on corners, under the bed, and the ceiling fan has accumulated dust from last century, as well as dresser and night stands. The sheets were even broken, with holes, yes! The property needs some TLC. Staff is basic island service...do not expect much. Breakfast is only 2 croissants, half baguette, butter & jam, fruit salad, juice, coffee and tea. Any other extras like 2 eggs start at 6 euros. Pros: location, AC, fridge, close restaurants and market, free chair and umbrella (2nd raw) on beach. Wi-fi works at the lobby area, sometimes you get weak signal at your room, especially if you are far away form lobby.

Nice experience-great location

This resort is the perfect place to enjoy Orient Beach. The resort is small, only 42 rooms, which was just perfect for us. It was quiet, but close to the action if you wanted it. The beach is beautiful. The room size was good, with a small kitchenette, a water closet and separate bathroom with sink and bathtub. They had a few issues with water while we were there, but were actively working to fix and everything seemed fine. Kakao beach bar and restaurant provides beach chairs and umbrellas for resort guests free of charge, but be aware that you still have to pay $10/person if you want to sit in the first row by the water. The drinks and food at Kakao was good, drinks had long pours. There is also a little "village" area about a 3 minute walk away that has several restaurants and a little convenience store that also sells fresh baked goods, pizza by the slice and quiche as well as liquor and cigarettes. Enjoyed french bread and cheese from this store. The balconies at the hotel were nice sized and we enjoyed sitting there and watching the world go by. It can get a bit warm as the air conditioner exhausts on the balcony, but we just turned the a/c off while we were sitting out there. The trade winds provided a comfortable experience. Room had a t.v., could not even tell you if it worked - we never turned it on! There is a fair number of women who sunbathe topless - no big deal. Occasionally, there will be a few folks who don't pay attention to the signs saying nudity prohibited and will walk down the beach totally nude. Again, not a big deal - mostly happening early morning as they go from one end of the beach over to Club Orient or later in the afternoon - making the reverse trip. Overall, I loved the location and felt the resort was a comfortable place to stay. It was not elegant, so if that's what you are looking for, look elsewhere. It was very comfortable and a superb location.

Great location

We stayed at Alamanda for 8 days. It is situated about 50 yards/metres from the beach and about 100yards/metres from the "Village" where there are numerous very good restaurants. Lunch you get on the beach and dinner at the village. The location is perfect. There are numerous Restaurants along the beach - however, the restaurant affliliated with Alamanda (Kakao) is excellent. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and clean. We will definitely return and definitely recommend staying there.
