Room was clean but very small. The bed was not very comfortable, and the hotel was noisy at night. Hotel is in a questionable part of town. The price (and the fruit vendor down the street) were the only upside. Would not recommend to friends.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Use the MRT (Singapore subway system) and see the city! Rides are cheap and the subway is very nice. Singapore can be expensive, but there are a lot of free things you can do. We went to the Botanic Gardens (a beautiful park in the middle of the city), the Merlion park on the water, the public library (glass elevator to the top floor gets you a good view of the city!), and the river walk/Clarke's Quay area. There are also lots of free places so do your research before you go and you can do a lot without having to spend a lot of money.
The Fragrance Emerald hotel provides basic accomodations. The rooms are tiny but clean. My biggest problem was the lack of a safe deposit box, either in the room or at the reception. Thus, I had to carry my passport and all my valuables with me
all the time which was a hassle, to say the least. Also, the hotel does not have a dining room so you must go somewhere else for breakfast. The location of the Fragrance Emerald hotel is great, however. It is located in the Geylang area of Singapore. There are dozens of food stalls and restaurants within a few blocks, and the food is delicious and cheap. There is also an MRT station nearby although you have to cross several busy streets to get there. Overall, the hotel is ok for a very short stay. I would not recommend to stay there for more than two nights.
