Great location but too much outside noise at night

I am torn between loving this hotel for its amenities, quality, and outstanding location, versus the terrible amount of noise outside that prevented me from getting a good night's sleep every day that I was there. The problem is a huge Times Square type electronic billboard across the street that blasts the same 5-minute loop of music endlessly, day and night. Even with the sliding glass doors closed and locked and the curtains drawn, one can still hear that dreadful noise. I started keeping the TV on all night long to drown out the noise, which was only partially successful. I would think twice before coming back here for that reason alone, even though everything else about the hotel was excellent.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The subway system is excellent, clean, and user friendly, and the best way to get to all the major attractions at very little cost. The closest station is within the hotel and mall complex itself, so you don't even have to go outside to pick up tone of the main subway lines. A second station that serves another subway line is only one block from the hotel - that one is great for getting to the Marina Sands complex and the Gardens By The Sea (a great attraction), and the Botanic Gardens (also worth seeing for the incredible orchid collections) is about 35 minutes away on the same line.

In need of some work...

the location is okay--but, many of the rooms haven't been updated and those rooms have very uncomfortable beds. I complained that the rooms and decor of the first assigned room I received didn't match the advertising, I told them I would need to leave for a bed that was comfortable, they got me into a refreshed room and delivered fruit, truffles, and wine as an apology. Their service is slow--mostly felt as colleagues and associates called to reach me and they got a message that the "communication center" was closed, they were put on hold for many minutes before being connected to my room. I will not stay here again.

Good location hotel

Good location within easy reach of all the touristy sites via the excellent MRT station situated adjacent to hotel, coupled with the bus network. Breakfast buffet at the Prega is one of the best I have come across for variety and food selection. Friendly helpful staff throughouit the hotel. Deluxe room was spacious with good faciliites and comfortable beds. Wi-Fi reception good but expensive. Excellent views from the cocktail lounge on the 70th floor in the Stamford - part of the same complex with Raffles City shopping and entertainment below the hotels. Cocktails in the Stamford better than the Raffles Hotel opposite but you have to go there don't you and dont forget to sweep the peanut shells off the table before you leave!

Trying hard, but must try harder!

We stayed here twice in 2 weeks in Feb. The hotel appears to have had no upgrading or refurbishing since being taken over by Fairmont and my last stay about 8 years ago. It is definitely NOT like The Savoy London which is part of the same group, but they appear to be bringing in experienced staff from elsewhere in the world to try and improve things. The first week we were disappointed with our room which was shabby and had a shower which did not function properly. However, knowing we were coming back the following week, they took note and did much better by us the second time around. However, ladies note that there was no dressing table/vanity mirror, in the room which was more orientated to (male) business travellers. Also, daily internet access at S$28 plus tax and service is unreasonable these days. The hotel is well located for those on business and tourists who want to be able to dash around. There is an excellent spa and range of restaurants. Some of the staff were excellent, taking trouble to provide service, while others need more training to bring them up to expected standards. One little tip: if you have a late flight but can't get a late enough check-out, the Fairmont has a hospitality suite for guests to use on the 6th floor. This is just along from the spa, allowing you to take advantage of shower facilities etc, quite necessary in Singapore's heat.

Excellent location and Reasonable Price

Booked this hotel because we were looking for a reasonably priced 5 Star hotel in Singapore. The Fairmont did not disappoint: location was excellent being right in the heart of the city next to the Raffles Hotel; the room was large with a beautiful balcony overlooking the pool and the south part of the city. Subway service and shopping mall is right next door. The health club was large as was the pool. Probably as good as you're going to get for around $200US per nite.

great location, ok value

The location is great, next to MRT station, near the bay. Rooms are spacious, quiet, and comfortable. It's not as modern as other hotels available... if you're a fan of Mad Men, then you'll like it :) Price is a bit hight but that's Singapore lah....

3-night stay in Fairmont Singapore

The hotel's location is great. It is connected to the Raffles City mall, which is very convenient for shopping and dining purposes. The staff was attentive, helpful and friendly, although there were times when they would come to our door out of the blue and ask if we needed anything -- this was appreciated but unnecessary. My only complaint is the surcharge for an Internet connection in the room. There is free WiFi in the lobby, however.

Good business hotel

I stayed at the hotel for an extended business trip. The hotel met my expectations, even though breakfast was not included, I got good value for the money. - I would not take a room facing north again though. Also, there was a construction area close by, where they work at night also. - Tip: to get free WiFi in your room, you have to become member of the "Fairmont President's Club members" in advance.

Business trip

Positive: The location is great- walking distance from The Flyer, Marina bay sands, fountain of wealth, business district. Many places around to eat and shop Negative: They try to charge to trick you on everything. I moved the drinks from the minibar to the shelf just above it, and at the check-out they tried to charge me for the drinks I did not consume. Also, I visited the business center in the late evening, but it was closing, so I did not use anything (no internet, no printing, nothing) and at the check- out they tried to charge me for it as well
