Of all the hotels in the world, it is usually hard to define what makes one more memorable than another. The exceptions they say rank as the world's legendary places. Such as the Savoy and Dorchester Hotels in London, the legendary Raffles in Singapore and the Plaza in New York to name but a few: Hotels rich in history, charm and generations of tradition's to pass to each new guest. Aggie Grey's is in the same context as these legendary Hotels in that it has generations of history and tradition, which have been passed down to its existing management from the late Aggie Grey, and the extended family of 300 plus full time staff. No wonder it is a warm and friendly Hotel where people can relax in the knowledge that they are family and where strangers quickly become friends. It is a special place for travellers, a home away from home for people who like people and where fresh bananas hang from the cool verandas, where afternoon tea and English sandwiches can still be enjoyed in the Coffee Lounge, where drums call to dinner with unknown guests and where the waiter suddenly becomes a fire dancer for the night. Hospitality that is unsurpassed in the South Pacific where today, members of the Grey family still extend that famous Aggie Grey's hospitality - apparent from the moment you step into the Hotel lobby and are greeted as a friend. You'll be made to feel right at home and friendly staff will ensure your stay is both comfortable and memorable. It is here, where in a changing world, one thing that remains reassuringly the same at Aggie Grey's is the gracious service, thoughtful touches and straight from the heart smiles. Located harbourfront in Apia, the Hotel has a variety of room categories to suit every traveller. The Samoan traditional entertainment (Fia Fia night) is the best in town.

Comfortable, Clean, Great Hotel!

We were in Apia primarily to rest after a long research trip to Tonga. The hotel was in a great location and we were able to walk to every where we wanted to go, shopping, restaurants, bars, dancing. The rooms were clean and the staff was very, very friendly. Internet is available, but at the cost of $15 ST per hour. This would be the only thing that I would like to see changed. With the amount paid for the room, I would like to have internet included. This was my first visit to Apia and I would most certainly return to this hotel.

Disappointing

We had travelled around Samoa and had enjoyed various accommodations from fales to resorts. We had left Aggie Grey's for the last night expecting something special having read a lot about this long established hotel. When we arrived we were impressed. The hotel itself has a Romantic quality created by the older style and an adherence to Samoan craft and design. The people at the front desk were great checking us promptly into our room even though we had arrived very early. After that though it was simply unpleasant. Guests are herded like animals from one activity to the next. We had to queue for everything - meals, tickets, seats. There appears to be a large number of staff there whose role is to push you from the pool, when they think you should move, to whatever the next activity is, and then on to the next. The food was ordinary and served up like a backyard b-b-q. On holiday the little things often make a big difference. We ordered a couple of coktails and they got the order wrong and served these expensive drinks in what looked like Marmite glasses. The culture night concert may have been ok but I couldn't see it from my seat and I'm over six foot. In the end though it felt like I was being forced to sit through a school concert with someone else's kids. Hugely overpriced for this English holiday camp experience.

The Best of the Best

We have stayed at Aggie's in downtown Apia several times. The last time was 5 years ago and also prior to that. We stayed there twice on this trip sandwiching a trip to Pago Pago in between. We stayed in the Samoan fale (bungalow) and the conventional room on the return trip. Tremendous value for the money as they picked us up for the 40 minute ride to and from airport(included in the hotel fare). Aggie's granddaughter waited on us personally and was just so gracious. Breakfast fit for the best was also included in the cost of the room stay. Just cannot say enough about this fine place. Though dated in time, they have kept it up and the hospitality was unparalleled. WONDERFUL!!!

A very authentic hotel in terms

A very authentic hotel in terms of decor & design from the mid 20th century. All staff were most courteus and friendly and restaurants were great. The deal I received was excellent, and I will certainly use Aggie Grey's again.
