Great hotel Excellent location

This place is very modest and shows some aging but is still one of my favorites. You really can't beat the location, friendly staff and value. If you're looking for super high end you might want to look somewhere else. If you're looking for a charming relaxing hotel with with a great caribbean vibe you may have found your place. If I ever make it back to St Lucia I will absolutely stay here again:)

In bad need of remodeling

We travel a lot and don't complain much. A broken tile or an antiquated tv don't faze us. However, the SL is definitely in need of remodelation. The Pros: - location: Reduit beach is gorgeous and if you are not in the all-inclusive plan, Rodney Bay offers many places to eat or have a drink - the staff is very nice - it's clean The Cons: - this hotel doesn't really cater to children: even though it has a kids club, it is only open from 10-12 and 2-4, and while we visited, there were never any other children there. On the plus side, Doreen, the person in charge of the kids club, was great and played with my daughter even though she was the only child at the club - only one small (and not very clean) swimming pool - everything is old and in need of repair: closet doors with missing knobs, stained lamp shades, dripping sink, safety deposit box with malfunctioning screen, old tv that didn't work well - we requested a room in the second floor and were told their policy is to place families with children in the first floor only... that was new for us... - the food was OK, but there are only 3 restaurants and we had to eat at the buffet every day, as there were no reservations available at the other two the whole week! Management should organize this better so that every guest gets a chance to eat at all the restaurants at least once - wifi at the room was weak (hit or miss) Other: - we requested an extra bed the second night we were there and it was brought to us the next day - we didn't experience the invasion from cruise tourists at the beach that others had mentioned.. the beach was clean and had few people, but the sea was rough for most of our stay - the hotel doesn't offer any activities at all, which could be a plus for some, but was a minus for us as we were hoping to have the kids engaged and entertained

I quick trip

The Hotel was in a great locations. But it needs some updating, and fix what is not working, no phone, lights or refrigerator. Each room had its own set of problems. Food was limited to 2 hours. and no snack bar or anything but drinks for the rest of the time. Also beach area needs to be cleaned daily.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Better to do shopping at the hotel shopping area and at the malls near by than go into downtown Castries. The island is not well kept. They need to update, upgrade and clean up the island.

Affordable & comfortable

This hotel, as I read in previous reviews, is not a 5 star resort. It is a good value for your money. I do alot of travelling and would not stay somewhere that was not clean, comfortable and enjoyable. This hotel is an awesome location in a beautiful cove. There are majestic mountains on each side of the beach, the sand is white, water clear and warm, people friendly. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Staff were mostly friendly though 2 of the female bar staff were visibly annoyed, miserable and probably shouldn't be in the hospitality industry. Others though, were very kind and greeted with a smile. We used the spa services here and though not luxurious, it was comfortable and massage was good. Pool was small here, and the sister resort next door has a much nicer pool. But who wants to sit there when you have the carribean ocean to swim in!? The ride from the airport is through the mountains and a little over an hour. Fair is appx $90 through a taxi service. You can grab a taxi when you get there, no need to book ahead unless you don't mind sharing a van for the ride and spending a little less. No beaches on St. Lucia are private, so be prepared for vendors selling everything you can imagine and they are very competitive! There are few chairs provided by the hotel, but umbrellas & chairs are for rent for $10/day from the locals. There is a small grassy area at the hotel that is private for hotel guests only. The beaches will sometimes flood with cruise guests. Do not buy any jewelry from the beach vendors walk down towards town & buy there. It's cheaper. I learned the hard way. Oh & the food is buffet style and was very good. Exceeded my expectations. It does get a little old after a few days, but there are many restaurants nearby to choose from that you will not be disappointed with. Hope this helps!

Great Location

I think we stayed in the best area because the view and beach area was so great. There was a lot to do in the area and the hotel was very clean and staff was so friendly and helpful. Sy Lucian by Rex is a 3 star hotel that acts like a 5 star.

We rented a car from Avis and had a terrible experience because all the tires were in bad shape and the roads are terrible there. Would have been alot less stress to just use the taxies. We wasted 2 mornings replacing flats and having to buy tires so did not get to really enjoy the Island.

Pretty good all inclusive resort

Our experience overall was good. The drinks were really good and strong, nothing skimmed there. The food is buffet style and the menu doesn't seem to change much. My mom and I ended up eating town a few times, which we didnt mind. The view from the beach is absolutely breath taking. Friendly people walk down the beach and sale you local souvenirs and are very knowledgeable about the island. The rooms were very tidy and house keeping came everyday to clean. The best attribute of this resort is the tour agency for sure. We had a driver one day who drove us all around. He educated us on island life and facts, went to see the Pitons, and much more. One day we also took a boat to another island, Martinique and shopped and swam on a black sand beach. Our last day there we hired the same driver by request to drive us to the market in Castries, do some shopping and the end the night with a little fun at the street party in Gros Islet. We had a wonderful time! Make sure to ask for the driver Jerry, he is the best! It was a good place overall to stay for our first time in St. Lucia!

Great Beach - Free WI-FI

Comfy clean room, beach is great. Dining room wait staff slow, after speaking with food service manager, service improved somewhat. Bar service good. Resort is walking distance to shops, casino and main bus stop. This resort is by no means luxury, great if you just want to chill and enjoy the beach.

A most pleasant Stay

The Rex has the best beach for swimming! The reception (by Franklin) was very warm and pleasant. Having a room with a balcony close to the shore is thrilling and beautiful with the look on Palm trees and nice flower gardens - dream of the south ! The Rex deserves more stars - but, please keep it simple unpretentious and as quiet as it is now. We enjoyed so much the music and also the silence, just hearing the sea. Nice food- was not overbearing. Of course the catamaran trip to the unique Pietons was wonderful. We would have liked a short stop to the old fisher village (Anse de Raye), but next time. We will definitely come again next year !!!

RESTFUL

This is a great place to stay if you want to disconnect from reality and decompress. The resort is strictly three stars in all regards. The entire place could use an update/renovation. The beds are pretty wretched. I'm in my 30s, and my lower back pain upon waking was a little alarming. It's wonderful to be right on the beach. The beach itself is good, not great. The food is decent. Breakfast is the best; definitely get the fresh eggs made to order. Lunch needs some help. Dinner was pretty good. If you opt for a non-inclusive option, the hotel is across the street from many restaurants, local ones and American chains. There's a supermarket and a mall a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Be advised that the hotel is 1.5 hours from the airport, which can be a little taxing after a flight. The mixed drinks were tasty. The beer was warm. I was happier buying a six-pack of Piton from the supermarket, keeping it icy cold in my fridge, and then drinking on my balcony. Staff was pretty good, though some members did not have much of a personality, and many of the servers need to learn to smile.

great overall trip

The Rex was ordinary, however the beach was gorgeous and the food was really good. For an all inclusive you certainly got your monies worth if you like to eat and drink. One of the biggest issues with the resort is that they left a lot of things go, I am assuming due to the aging building. The focus definitely seemed to be on the sister resort, which was beautiful but not worth the price difference. If you are looking for beachfront this is your place if you can overlook the little things. We were greeted each morning by Wendy, who is a stray dog who lives on the beach, which made us feel not so far away from our own two canines. If you are looking for night life it is directly outside of the resort and just a few steps away, definitely walking distance. We had a car so we ventured out a little because we had a car and it was safe for us, however when we tried to go to the rainforest they were closed. The next day we tried to venture to a waterfall and they were also closed. We did have an awesome trip to pigeon island where we climbed to the top of both Pitons. The rest of the trip was spent at the resort, as we knew what to expect there.
