A good place for a family trip

the best thing is abundance of water activities--sailing, kayaks, ski, what not! The atmosphere is very relaxing. Do not expect huge variety in food--this is not Cancun, but it is for the better (maybe not for all folks). The downside for this resort is abominable acoustics of their entertainment lounge. Even the best perfomance would be lost there.

average hotel beautiful island

the ride from the airport is brutal, very long we stopped for lunch on the way, check in was ruff rooms not ready over a hour wait, then they tried to give us a different room from what we reserved. i was told by other guest what is advertised as ocean front rooms are actually 1st floor pool front and very noisey at night. the suites are up in the moutains and hard to get to but are much nicers with a very nice bath tub. resturants are nice with good food, the islands fish may be the best I ever had, but dont waste your money on the one resturant thats not part of the all inclusive package. bartender n waitresses are all pretty good. women at the main office and excursion desk are unhelpful and rude. I would like acknoledge Noel, and the women that serve food at the kiddie pool as being the nicest and most helpfull people their. Noel especaiily should be the standard of Morgan Bay customer service he is the soul reason I will return. The guys on the beach give a excellent tour of the island n sulfur bath and everything the island offers. This island is one of the best in the caribbean. The way God left it.

Couples getaway!

My boyfriend & I stayed here for 6days and overall we had a great time! The only complaint we had was the food, it was close to awful. Morgan's Pier was the better of the restaurants, but still, wasn't great. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our favorite thing about this resort was all of the watersports included and daily beach activities. We highly recommend Joy's cruise, it was the best day we had in St. Lucia! Having the entire resort decorated for Christmas was very romantic!

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

The market in Castries is similar to a flea market and is very affordable, there are also duty-free shops there! There is a public bus that will take you there and back to the hotel! The taxi's are also convenient and affordable from the hotel.

Good Value based all inclusive

An hour and a half away from the airport but it does give you a chance to see the island. Staff very pleasant but not overly attentive. The bay is not what you expect from the Caribbean, rather chocolately hence the name choc bay. Definitely a value based resort.

Its just average.

This was our second trip to St. Lucia, first time in this hotel. The hotel and grounds are pretty clean and bright. We stayed in a deluxe ocean front hotel room. The bed was fairly comfortable, but there was a spring that would boing loudly everytime my husband rolled over. The bathroom is a bit small, but the tub is a godo size and the lighting is very good. You do have to partially shut the door to get around it to get to the toilet though. We were on the top floor and realized that the roof was made of tin when it started raining because it was very loud and almost scary when the wind picked up in the middle of the night. There are no elevators so be prepared to climb stairs to get to your room even if your not on the hill. You MUST make reservations at all the al a carte restaurants - Morgans Pier and Bamboo are part of the all inclusive plan, Le Jardin in an extra $25 pp. We ate at the Pier and Bamboo and both have good food, but we were not able to get reservations for either of them for the same day - even when we tried at 8am. The water in front of this hotel is not the crystal clear water you go to the Carribean for. It is very murky. Its still nice and warm though, so we still did a lot of swimming. Getting a drink can take a long time at the bars and especially in the restaurants. The servers were fairly nice, a couple were even exceptionally nice, but they are not very attentive. We went on Joy's excursion and had a lot of fun. He has a sign posted on the edge of the beach in front of the water center. I would recommend doing that, but he only takes cash so bring $100 for each person participating. Overall this was an ok hotel, but nothing special.

Not what expected

I must say that we were very disappointed with the hotel. Even though they are in the middle of refurbishing, the hotel is old. Our first room although a nice size and clean had no view and when in it, you didn't even know that you were in the Caribbean. We did receive an ocean front room upgrade for free which greatly improved our experience. Hotel staff were exceptional. The food was barely acceptable. Buffet food was just edible at best. A la carte restaurants had limited choices and the food was a little better but not great. All in all we had a good time but we would not go back to this hotel or probably any Almond resort. St. Lucia itself was amazingly beautiful and locals were helpful and friendly.

Good and Also Bad (at times very bad)

We went to this resort on our honeymoon (we're a gay couple and had no trouble) and we stayed the last week of Feb 2012. My first impression was not great, but as the week wore on, I grew to see the potential in this resort. The management changed hands in the last few months and it is now the Morgan Resort instead of the Almond Morgan Resort. I think the resort is seriously suffering from poor management. The positives: the resort was very clean, the gardens were extensive and very well maintained. The beach was nice in comparison to other beaches on the island. St. Lucia does not have long beaches for walking, they are all sort of small inlets. The negatives: we paid for a room upgrade, but our room was only so so. The bed was extremely hard and terribly uncomfortable. The evening entertainment went very late every night and we had to sleep with ear plugs in order to get to sleep. The music was excessively loud. Also- the resort is very understaffed. You had to wait in line to get a dinner reservation every 3rd morning because they would only book the restaurants part way full (they did not have enough wait staff to to fully book the restaurants, but the hotel was packed and people needed places to eat)and only up to 3 days in advance. The food was ok, but not awesome. Also, you had to get to the beach very early to reserve a beach chair. People were selfish and would reserve chairs and then not sit in them all day. This resort could use a really effective manager to hire more staff, make some policies that help the resort guests to not be so stressed over where they will eat dinner, or if they will have a chair at the beach, and make some necessary upgrades to the mattresses and tennis courts and game room.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Go to Pigeon Island. It is a beautiful park about a 10 minute drive from the resort. You can get a taxi to take you there for 20 US dollars and there are taxis that hang out there all day and will take you back to the resort. It costs $5. per person to get in. It's a great, inexpensive excursion. There is nice hiking, a great restaurant, bring your credit card, there is art for sale. There are 2 beaches (you can rent a beach chair for $2.). The water is warmer than the water at the resort because the bay is more shallow. It was the best day we had in St. Lucia. Also- bring a bubba Keg. These large insulated mugs are super handy to keep your beverages cold. At the end of your trip, you can give it to your fav. hotel staff. Some hotel staff asked us if they could buy them from us.
