Avoid Rex Royal
As experienced world travellers, my wife and I found the Rex Royal in St. Lucia to be very sub-par. The facilities themselves were lovely, especially the rooms. However, the staff were very unaccomodating. Many extra charges were applied sneakily by wait staff. The food plans are atrocious and should be avoided since there are plenty of restaurants of fine quality across the street or up the road within a quarter mile. Quality of food is poor and many items were out of stock. For example, the breakfast options were terrible and the pastries and breads were covered with bugs. Also, the local beer and many seafood selections appear on the menu, but were not available for portions of or for our entire stay. Beach towels were not provided after numerous room cleanings. The area surrounding the resort had little in the way of entertainment. I would not recommend this resort to anyone for the human elements described.

good place to stay
The hotel itself was gorgeous, clean and oh what a beautiful beach! there was plenty of beach sports to try and were affordable. the swim up bar in the pool was great- [...] is the best bartender there, and by far the friendliest person working there! Our only complaint about this hotel is the staff was not overly energetic, and almost looked annoyed if we'd ask about dinner recommendations. We would have liked a little more help, since it was our first time to the island and we didnt know where anything was! All in all, it is a good hotel and we enjoyed our stay.

Staying at the Royal
We went as a couple just to get away for vacation. We went toward the end of May so it was the off season. It was very quiet and peaceful. We flew into the small airport and the flight came in late, when we arrived we had food waiting for us that we had requested, as a lot of places were closed already. Our bed and bathroom was covered in flowers when we arrived. They staff was pretty friendly and helpful when we asked questions. The location was great, we were within walking distance to bars and restaurants, which was wonderful. We did not purchase a meal plan and glad we didn't, it was fun to venture out and try other places. There is also a drug store and a small mall about a 10 minute walk away. While we were there we were there we did the zip line at rainforest zip line place, did a day sail on the Brig Unicorn, and hiked around pigeon island. All fun!! We ate at Big Chef, Ku De Ta, and Tequila Joes outside of the hotel, would recommend all of them! Over all, St. Lucia is beautiful and we plan to return!

Short drive from hotel
Go to Pigeon Island for some beautiful sight seeing and hiking around. It costs about 3 US$ to get into the park and has two places to eat, two beaches, and some great history. We took a short taxi ride there and had him pick us up at a time agreed upon.

beach is only asset
just returned from the royal rex. the beach was great.thats it. the staff was incredibly rude. ive been to many resorts and have never dealt with this. i even asked them if they didnt like americans.we were very freindly and did not ask much.the tv in the room sucks. you get two channels and the food network. it was me and my girlfriend getaway= left our husbands home-the beggars on the beach are relentless-the staff allowed the beggars to come to the pool to hound us-i dontknow who manages this resort but it could be a great place. retrain the staff=we got not one hello, good morning etc-room service would just ring and ring-called for two wakeup calls-received none(except for the nice lady on the third day)they have to curb the beggars- and make thisanall inclusive- to walk to town with just two women was could be scary- would i goback to st lucia- only to a five star all inclusive where i know the staff wont treat you like your non-existant this really could be a great place the location is really good-nowi know why the place was empty except for virgin american staff

This is the resort for romantic get away
Great location for the island. All the best restaurant's within walking distance. The Rex offered superb service. The distance from the airport is truly 1 1/2 hours, but what views. We we're there to celebrate our son's marriage at another resort, which is lovely, but very busy. My husband and I very much enjoyed our quiet/romantic ambiance offered by Rex Resorts. The spa also offered wonderful service.

Royal Rex St Lucia
In general, this is a nice, clean hotel with very personable staff. The beach is a public beach with quite a bit of activity, both people and commercial. This is not a quiet or necessarily romantic spot.

Not Applicable
If you are going to stay at this hotel, try to enter St Lucia from the northern airport, however, most flights and packages place you thru the southern airport, UVF, which is 40 miles and an expensive and 100 minute drive.

If you are looking for a relaxing
If you are looking for a relaxing get away from it all hotel this is for you. The hotel is right on the beach and has it's own swimming pool with excellent swim up bar located in well maintained gardens. Troy, the bar manager, mixes a mean cocktail! There are two restaurants but if you fancy a change there is a good selection of restaurants and bars just outside. The rooms, or suites as they called, are spacious with separate bedroom and living area and a good size bathroom.
