To say "centrally located" would not be enough of a compliment to this location for a non-Russian speaker. The hotel became the center of our world. English-speaking staff, numerous restaurants (Elki Palki and Palkin both highly recommended) in
close walking distance. Fantastic room service breakfast available. Taxis have easy access in front of the building, along with the Autobus stop. Nearby Metro station (very short walk). Fly Station skydiving practice wind tunnel was a long drive but very affordable by taxi. Dans le Noir (eat in the dark, served by blind waitstaff) only a short drive for an unforgettable experience. Well-stocked mini bar and snacks. Very clean room; complimentary water (don't drink the tap!) Got the room in a package price with the airfare and couldn't have asked for any better value. Hotel has an outstanding reputation among the locals as being top of the line. Many expressed approval when we mentioned where we were staying. The American influence of KFC, McDonald's, etc. is creeping in on Nevsky Prospekt, but it makes it somewhat familiar to the average American tourist visiting a foreign country for the first time. All nearby restaurant menus have English explanations. Stern looking security at the front door, but nice to know they are on "your side" of things. Highly recommend this location, and we will be back again next year.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short drive from hotel
Dans Le Noir restaurant, in the Sokos Hotel on Vasily Island, is an unforgettable experience. You dine in complete darkness, served by waitstaff who are blind. The impact of one simple meal without sight is something you will never forget.
Room clean-up not attentive enough. We stayed for 6 nights and everyday we came back to notice... either the bathroom shampoo/ body lotion not replenished, or bottled water missing, or uncleaned coffee cups still lying there ... The currency
exchange machine never worked.
