Northern Lights Hotel

Superb location, just a step from St.Isaac's cathedral. Very nice and clean, extremely helpful and friendly staff!

Centrally located in St. Petersburg. 1 to 2 min from St. Issacs Cathedral. 10 to 30 minutes by foot from anywhere else you might want to be. Entrance is shabby, but do not let that scare you. The hotel is small but nice. It is only a 5 room hotel but everything is up to reasonably high standards (I think a stand alone hotel would be 3 stars) Negatives: doors in the hotel need insulation. I could not hear the other guests, but I could hear whatever happened in the hall. The staff person was conscientious, but without sound proofing on the doors, there are human limits to being quiet. Somethings that pleasantly surprised me: it is a small hotel. I would expect some details might not be right.... but they were. There was enough hot water at peak demand in the morning (though water pressure was a problem for a period of 10 minutes). Beds were comfortable. Rooms were very clean. Staff were friendly and fluent in English. Also, the restaurant across the street (Teplo) was amazingly good for a reasonable price (please keep in mind that I had just come from Moscow where a decent meal out for less than US$100 for two means McDonald's)

I traveled to St Petersburg by myself to celebrate my birthday. I spoke no Russian, but knew they spoke English at the hotel. This new little hotel was exactly in the location I wanted, since I would be walking almost everywhere- great location in the historic district. It is on the 3rd floor of an old building, so be prepared for a stairmaster experience, and the first two floors are a bit bombed out looking...but when you get to the hotel itself, it is very nice, clean and pleasant. It is small, which makes for a very comfortable homey feeling. The girls were all very nice and helpful. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome and help me with everything, from getting me flowers for my birthday to lending me a little clock for my room; from helping order a pizza to hiring a guide for touring the out of town Palaces. My room was pleasant and had modern amenities. Every morning a continental breakfast was served at whatever hour you wanted it, and you can come and go at any hour, since there is someone at the desk 24 hrs a day. The price was very reasonable. I would return and would highly recommend this hotel.

Stay away the pricey san petersburg hotels. This is the best choice ever! In the heart of the city, extremely quiet. Rooms are very clean. Don't be afraid of the old and dusty main stairs; Northern lights staff warm welcome is only waiting for you a dozen of steps ahead.

The great location to close all attraction. Inconvenience that two rooms share one bathroom. We didn't know that when we booked it. For same price in St. Petersburg we may find a better hotel than this. The hotel service was good and friendly.

First, the bad news --the hotel is on the 3rd floor of a partially-renovated mansion. You have to walk up 3 flights of steps that look like a dungeon. However, once you get to there, the "mini hotel" is brand-new -- there are about 5 room -- small but clean & nicely decorated, within a super bathroom with lots of hot water. The excellent breakfast is delivered to your room -- cereal, eggs, juice, etc. The 1-person staff is courteous and helpful. The best news is the location -- 2 blocks from St. Isaac's, and 4 blocks from the Hermitage... And the Orbitz price was unbelievable. A great value!

We loved the location and the staff. The hotel was definitely great for the money we paid. Breakfast was wonderful as well!
