Utilitarian Value

On the plus side, it's safe, clean, in a convenient location for exploration, and an excellent value by USA standards. The clientele a mix of budget-conscious tourists and business folk (children apparently stay free, up to some limitations, though we noticed very few). It's also rather stark, with seemingly more space allotted to lobby and hallway than actual room interior - a bit of a sense of grandiosity that disappears the minute you open your door to find no-frills in either furnishings or decor. Windows do not open (fresh-air enthusiasts beware) and A/C can take hours to have much noticeable effect. Contrary to apparent booking options, this seems to be a 100 non-smoking facility indoors. The restaurant is pricey and uninteresting (might be fine, but was never even slightly tempted to try it out), and the bar pretty much just an afterthought in a corner of the lobby floor... there's really no place to simply lounge and pass time (but plenty of options within a half-block). Desk staff friendly but hardly knowledgeable about the immediate locale.

Location Location Location

Pro's You cannot beat the location of this place for ease of access to the metro. Good Restaurants in the area. Sushi, Georgian, German, and even a shopping mall slightly down the street. Rooms were clean and modern with a comfortable bed. Hotel staff speaks good english Cons Nothing too bad but the room service was inconsistent with the times they cleaned the room. The restaurant is a bit pricy but will do in a pinch. Really not much to complain about. Take aways: I had a great trip for 17 days in this hotel. I was comfortable, and the hotel was clean and in a great location to get to all the sights by metro. I would 100% stay at this hotel again.

A short walk down the street and there is a nice mall with a grocery store. Nice to pick up some small items for the room. Shockolatnica coffee sucks, go to the starbucks or Coffee house instead.

Novotel Moscow Centre - Great Experience

Clean, bright, professional, a great value. We prepaid for the breakfast buffet, which was fantastic and served in a tremendously pleasant space. Free unlimited Internet access in the rooms -- be sure to take a CAT 5 connection cable. Great location with good restaurants in all directions within easy walking distance, including even a TGI Friday's! Grocery store nearby. All aspects of the visit were great.

Since the hotel is literally on top of a subway (metro) station, it is fast, safe, and convenient to get ANYwhere in the Moscow area. Don't be intimidated by the metro. Buy a ticket at the bottom of the steps at the "Kassa" window for 10 rides for only about $8 USD, swipe the ticket at the entry gate, and then follow the easy to read metro map. It's easy. Red Square is only three metro stops away from Novotel.

the highs and the lows

We went to Moscow for our youngest son's wedding to a Russian girl. The Russian people were fantastic and we found Moscow to be a very friendly city. Getting to the hotel from the airport is difficult. The traffic is brutal so the trian and the Metro are the way to go. The hotel reeked of cigarett smoke which bothered my wife. The room was quite large but the carpet was worn and there was a somewhat unpleasant smell (not unbearable). The breakfast buffet was to die for. They had everything you could want. we ordered from room service a few times, usually well after midnight and the food was delivered quickly and was very good.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Go to a bank to exchange dolllars into rubles. The exchange rate is much higher at the hotel and kiosks.
