Coastal villas in the heart of Vieques sit on former plantation grounds
The Inn on the Blue Horizon stirs the romance of the Spanish Virgin Islands with a historic setting on the grounds of a former sugar plantation great house. The property, a collection of villas and rooms overlooking the Caribbean, maintains the period charm with antique-filled spaces and eclectic artwork. Guests retreat to vacation mode by lounging poolside, sipping cocktails under the stars or savoring authentic Puerto Rican fare at Carambola Restaurant.

Rustic charm fills the rooms and villas the Inn on the Blue Horizon. Perched on a hill overlooking the ocean, the former sugar plantation great house offers rooms with balconies, early 19th century North American antiques and a variety of art. Expect touches such as four-poster beds, plantation-style shudders and ceiling fans that further the island feel. All rooms are non-smoking.
The Inn on the Blue Horizon achieves the feeling of a private hacienda – complete with roomy verandas and tropical Puerto Rican fare at Carambola Restaurant, whose name means star fruit in Spanish. Open for breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and dinner from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the eatery is rich in ambiance, thanks to white linen tablecloths, dramatic lighting and pastoral furniture. Guests can also enjoy cocktails under the stars at L'Mirador  and Blue Moon Bar & Grill, which hosts tapas nights and sunset happy hours. Leisure options invite guests to enjoy the outdoors either in the 50-foot pool or tennis court.

The property can also be rented for weddings for up to 100 guests.

Serene setting, wonderful staff

This inn set on a cliff above the Carribean Ocean, has a lovely pool and is close to the town of Esperanza. The staff are excellent and the bar was a nice place to end the wonderful days we spent on the beaches of Vieques. The restaurant serves interesting meals but the food was too salty. The rooms are nice but could use a little touching up.

Perfect Getaway

Inn at the Blue Horizon was an ideal place to stay during our recent trip to Vieques. The staff were wonderful, very helpful in providing recommendations and making sure we had an enjoyable stay. The rooms and decor were really lovely, food and drinks were great, warm/clean pool, and incredible view of the ocean. Highly recommend and will definitely go back.

I would highly recommend both the Paddle Boarding/snorkeling tour and the night-time kayaking trip to Bio-Bay. Both were the highlights of the trip.

Honeymoon

We are a couple in our 20's that came here for our honeymoon. We could not have asked for more. Any activities on the island the front desk set up for us, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly and at first we had planned on going around the island every day but the hotel was so great we just stayed in most days. It has the BEST food in Puerto Rico and pool is so nice to relax. Truly the best trip I've been on! Ps this place was SO quiet. Was there 10 days and saw only a half dozen other guests. VERY RELAXING!

Great views and location

I traveled to the Inn with a friend arriving on Thanksgiving and was greeted with a special Thanksgiving dinner. All of the food at the Inn was excellent, I looked forward to breakfast each day. The grounds are very well kept, the pool was clean and gives a great view over the ocean. The location of the Inn is perfect, as it affords you easy access to anywhere you'd like to get. Even though the island is small, get a 4x4, you won't regret it, the best beaches require effort to get to them. Lastly, all the staff at the Inn were very friendly and helpful, they made the stay very enjoyable.

Wonderful Hotel

Very pleasant and accommodating personnel. The rooms are clean and presentable. There does need to be done a little upkeep, touch up in painting, grounds and bushes needed to be trimmed. But the view was great, the rooms are actually little cabins, the pool was wonderful and could be enjoyed anytime of day or night- love night swimming. Lots to do just have to get out to do it.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Public cars seem to charge what they wanted and could vary from one to the other. Never figured out if it was time of day or number of people in the car.

peaceful gorgeous setting on Veiques

We loved Inn on the Blue Horizon! Great location and beautiful grounds!! I loved the pool and bar area. Very helpful, polite and personable staff. The restaurant is very nice, expensive but so are all the other nice restaurants in the area. The remote beaches are a must see on Vieques. We went at the end of October and had the place to ourselves! We felt like we were in paradise on a far off island, which I guess... we were! Also do NOT miss the bio bay kayaking tour! Very cool experience they go at night and you can swim in the glowing plankton. It was surreal. We went with Abe's which was fine but you have to have a sense of adventure. Ask your hotel for the best company. Have fun!!
