Worth the Price

This was our 3rd visit to Puerto Rico and we always stay a night or two in San Juan during the trip. This was our first time at the Ritz Carlton and was the best experience we have had by far. From the moment we stepped out of our car, the staff made every effort to assure our every need was cared for. The property was in pristine condition and even the sand on the beach seemed to be somehow of better quality than just a few yards off the property. The room was lovely and even a city view provided a full view of the ocean and beach. We spent all of our time at the hotel, enjoying the restaurant/bar by the beach, the casino and a spectacular dinner at BLT Steak.

Absolutely Marvelous

The Ritz Carlton was so wonderful, there was so much to do we did not want to leave the hotel. We had planned to take several excursions, but after our first day we scraped everything and just enjoyed the facilities. The only thing that was inconvienent was the spa. After a time at the spa it was raining real hard and we had to walk to the main section in the rain. There was not another hallway to connnect to the main hotel. Other than that I'll be back.

Ritz Carlton Shine in Customer Service

I took my wife for her 40th birthday to get away for a few days. The hotel was nice, although it is a little older. The staff are excellent and they are everywhere to wait on your needs. We had a pool view room which was okay but it did not have a balcony. Some do, probably more money. The first night we had some guys partying in the room next door. I asked to be moved because it was evident they were there for different reasons. The staff was swift to move us to a new ocean view room with a balcony at no extra charge ($120 per night diff.) for our trouble. Everything aspect of our staff was great. A little pricey as you might imagine for an R-C. A pot of coffee and 1 waffle was $39 before tip! Ouch. Frozen drinks started at $14. Budget about $150 per day, per person for food on site. That's not getting crazy with alcohol. Cabs are expensive to, but probably doesn't justify renting a car and paying R-C $25 per night parking. Let someone else do the driving.

There are some good eating places not too far from the Ritz. A 5 minute cab ride to Negeroya for some of the best sushi in the world. Close to Walgrees and Ice (gentlemans club).

IT WOULD'VE BEEN OUTSTANDING

Well it is a great misfortune that I had to suffer because of the miscommunication on the part of the hotel company and orbitz. I was a victim because orbitz failed to communicate to me that there was a hotel policy that required that a certain dollar amount had to be deposited per day during the duration in which I booked it for. Since ORBITZ did not know because the hotel did not communicate this valuable peace of information I had to suffer as a distraught victim of failure to communicate between these to companies. I showed up to the hotel expecting to get checked in and retire for the night after experiencing a 5 hour delay from my airline and what I got stuck with was an option to pay the deposit or find another hotel. So I am like I was never alerted of this alleged deposit during my booking and if I give the deposit then I will have no money to sustain myself while in PUERTO RICO. So I would not be able to eat or go on any of the excursions that was planned. So my choice was abruptly reduced to getting another hotel at 2200 hours. It took the orbitz representative close to three hours to find me another hotel with my standards as the RITZ-CARLTON as I so chose from the other hotels before picking the RITZ-CARLTON during my selection process for booking. The hotels that I chose were unaccommadating that were at my standards so I was further reduced to a hotel that was grossly substandard. So needless to say that my stay at the selected hotel was very very painstaking while I was in the beautiful ISLAND OF PUERTO RICO. I felt violated that I had to stay at such a hotel that I did because of miscommunication amongst these two companies. So this has left my trip a waste of time and an unhappy and unforgettable moment. I will no longer use ORBITZ in booking anything else or let my friends book anything through this company. No one should have to suffer in the manner in which I did because of failure to commnicate.

More than happy!

Loved the hotel, the staff completely. Staff was extremely pleasant and friendly beyond words! The only slight disappointment was that I did not get the king bed I requested (full knowing there was a chance on a busy holiday weekend). I got a dbl bedded room, however, I was well compensated by the perfect view of the pool and full front ocean.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Being a Ritz hotel, it is in line with the elegance of the chain, therefore if you want more "party" but the quiet in the evening, just head down the road to the El San Juan. The hotel there is the equivalent of Las Vegas ala Puerto Rico! So go Salsa or go to the club and then you can leave the party there and go to a quiet hotel...

Quiet relaxing getaway

I booked for two and had my daughter added since she was in town and planned to stay with me a night. When I checked in I requested double beds but was told only if it's available. Of course nothing was available until I upgraded and paid $$$$$$ more for the meal plan and then a room with double occupancy became availabe. Quite a coincidence. The meal plan was not an all inclusive type deal you would expect but the service was excellent. I didn't regret paying the extra cost but it was quite expensive. I think the hotel should have a listing of where people are going so they could share taxis and pay one fare. Made me not want to go anywhere having to pay $$$ each way.

Awesome Vacation Getaway!

The Ritz Carlton Hotel in San Juan is an awesome place to stay. The staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to please you. The location is phenomenal. They had access to the beach which made you feel like you were on your own private beach. The pool was very relaxing. The beach was very good. The sand was soo smooth and the water was warm and clean. As for activities, we had done 3 tours in San Juan. We booked prior to going to SJ but there was also an office in the hotel which was very convenient to book tours. The tours we took were amazing. We saw Old SJ and Bicardi Rum Factory, the El Yunke Rainforest and the Rio Camuy Caves and Arecibo Observatory. Each tour had its own charm. The rainforest was beautiful, relaxing and breath taking. There is so much to see in Old SJ but everything is in walking distance. The Caves were cool and unique. And the observatory was unlike anything I have ever seen. I would highly recommend going with a tour group because they provide so much history about SJ as well as information about the location you are going to. As for old SJ, I would recommend going on your own as long as you know which things you want to look at - you can do your research ahead of time or ask anyone in the hotel. It could easily be done in 1 day on your own. The food was great! We ate at local restaurants based on recommendations from our tour guides and the hotel staff. If you are in old SJ go to Raicies. It has great authentic Puerto Rican food. If in San Juan, try eating at Metropol - it has good cuban food. Please keep in mind that both these resaturants are primarily for people who are non-vegetarian. This was an awesome and relaxing vacation overall. I would recommend going to this location in a heartbeat.
