Pampered service

The Ritz Carlton is known for its impeccable service and we found that to be true here in San Juan. There was always someone available to tend to our needs whether at Guest Services, in the dining rooms, at the pool or at the beach. Housekeeping was very attentive and friendly. The best part at the beach is the attendants who set up your lounge chairs with towels and provide an umbrella if you want. When towels became soggy, they exchanged them for fresh ones. We were certainly pampered. Even though the hotel is right by the airport, you could not hear the planes taking off or landing. The beds and pillows were divine. We all slept very well. The breakfast buffet at Mares in the hotel was delicious and bountiful. My three big sons were completely satisfied. The experience was great and I would certainly return to the Ritz.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The El San Juan Hotel, a short walk from the Ritz, has a great collection of restaurants to choose from, steak, western, caribbean fusion. It's a very lively lobby and a good alternative when you want to leave the Ritz but not take a taxi.

Great for couples

This Ritz is great if your looking to just relax and not too much concerned with surrounding local activities. Great resort for young couples. The grounds are kept immaculate as the maid staff keep the rooms spotless. I definitely suggest to pay a little more per night when you get there and ask for a room upgrade. It is so worth the extra money and you are still getting a great deal. We upgraded to a suite with a pool/ocean view with balcony and the room was fantastic. They are 200 sq.ft. larger with walk in closets and just makes the entire vacation that much better. With checking in, I see a good number of people had issues with check in. We had our room ready by 1pm and that was on a Friday as well. As far as food, we only ate at the fantastic restaurants in the hotel but again, well worth the money. BLT Steak and Il Molino are must eats. The restaurant OBG that caters to the beach also offers a bar and lunch with a beach/ocean view. It has awesome food and cocktails, and yes, in addition to the other restaurants for dinner, is overpriced but seriously, what do you expect? These prices are basically if you a going out to a nice NYC dinner each night. To the people complaining of the overpriced food in the hotel, if you don't expect to pay these prices, then you probably should not be staying at a Ritz-Carlton. But seriously it is not as bad as some of these reviews make it seem to be. I also suggest the restaurant Pikayo, which is a 10 min cab ride and is run by a reknown chef and is absolutely delicious. The pool area, although not the largest pool is very nicely landscaped. The wait staff does a nice job setting up your lounges and towels and food and drink is readily accessible due to the waiters constantly patrolling the pool and beach. The beach is beautiful and although public, does seem to keep its own private area and private feel. There is definitely a difference between weekends and weekdays as far as volume of people. No locals in adjacent beaches on weekdays makes for a very more relaxing atmosphere. As far as surround attractions, I really could not comment because we were there to basically enjoy the beach and hotel but as far as what it seemed, the Bacardi factory and rainforest are the big draw. Otherwise not too much. Also, the hotel is literally 7-10 minutes door to door from the airport. In summary, this gorgeous resort is great for couples looking to just get away to relax and have everything readily available in the hotel. All this plus a nice casino makes the RitzCarlton San Juan a no brainer.

Good times!

Everyone was great! Except the tours consierge named [...] is how she signed our receipt. Changed prices on a horseback riding tour 3 times! Found out from the company she was ripping us off! Discussed it with pwers to be and all was rectified. I would never trust her to book anything ask for a manager and call the co. direct to verify. All else was great! [...] @ concierge desk was awesome and so was [...] the bell man. Maids were great too!! Would just knock to see if all was ok and if we needed anything. Clean, and beautiful! Just not close to anything major. Great for a lazy get a way

Paradise is one step away!

Two friends and I travelled to San Juan to celebrate a friend's 21st birthday. We went to El Morro and snorkled while there. It was fantastic. Everything was less than 20 minutes cab ride away. The hotel was beautiful! The scenery as well as the room decor, were all amazing! The staff was very attentive and they knew us by name by the second night! Definitely worth the money! And i would definitely visit again.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Bars and clubs don't attract many people until Thursday night, save your Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to visit historic sights and landmarks... Keep weekend nights open to party! The parties don't stop til 5 AM! You're guaranteed to have a good time.

First class hotel

Best Mojitos in Puerto Rico. Cabana staff did a turn down service on lounge chaises, set up umbrellas, gave fresh oranges while you sat at pool or beach. Cocktails were very pricey so we limited ourselves. Casino was loads of fun...$10 blackjack :)tables. ONly disappointment was our check in. There were five people in our party, we booked 2 rooms, and were only given 2 king beds total. Had to ask for extra roll away to be delivered, and it was fairly long wait
