Great hotel

Highest level of service. Food and drinks though are ridiculously expensive. Also, had to pay $17 a day for parking in their garage. Shouldn't it be included? Also, beware of resort fee, which is 14% of the room price...

San Juan

Old San Juan is lovely and I highly recommend going there. This hotel is about 20 minutes away from Old San Juan. Cab fare is 20 dollars each way. The only nightlife at this hotel is the casino. The two main restauarnts claim to be "the best". They are not. I could have purchased a better steak at the local market. Il Mulino's staff work very hard but again... the food is highly overrated. For what these restaurants charge, they should be amazing! Sadly, they are not.

Very Nice Hotel AND Staff

Very nice hotel. Some said the outside is plain when I was reading the reviews before I went, I thought it was understated elegance. Lot of foliage and lighted palms, etc. Very tropical. Staff was tremendous. I don't think I ever opened a door for myself no matter what time I came back to the hotel. Every hotel employee I encountered was professional and pleasant and helpful. Grounds were impeccably maintained. Only complaints: water pressure was bad in my room. I was ready to call housekeeping but it was the same in the room of the person I was traveling with. Spa was average and somewhat small. Clean and all, but somewhat small compared to others that I have been to. This was the first spa were the whirlpool and sauna were coed! Never encountered that one before. Thankfully the attendant was in the locker room to let me know a swimsuit is required. The beach was very nice. Very clean and big. No rocks or seaweed when you went in the ocean. Drawback to some might be the location. In Isla Verde you basically have the Ritz, El San Juan and the Inter-Continental. I would rate them in that order too. One being the Ritz. If you sty in that area it's fine, but I also went to the Condado quite often to Old San Juan. $15 cab ride one way to the Condado and $19-$20 to OSJ. Can get costly when you go out each night. You are able to walk to more bars and restaurants in the Condado. The Italian place in the hotel looked and smelled good and was crowded, but I don't want to eat in my hotel. I wanted to get out in the city. Never was hassled or felt unsafe anywhere I went. The Ritz was definitely the nicest hotel. Went to the El San Juan next door. Not sure I would stay there. Pool was nicer or had more room and a swim up bar but the Ritz is better maintained and more low key / sedate. I can go out if I want some action. The beach at the El San Juan was just as nice as the Ritz. The guidebooks said the Inter-Continental was rundown, but they must have remodeled becaase the lobby and other areas were nice. LaConcha (the other place I was going to stay) was very nice. More action and nice crowd - singles and couples from late 20s to early 50s. Definitely the place to stay if you want to be closer to OSJ and in the Condado. More to do in both of those places, but in the Condado there were some homeless asking for money. You did not see that in Isla Verde. The Ritz was mostly couples and singles too but I think that was due to the time of the year. Would have been nice if they played some music by the pool. Overall you will not be disappointed going to teh Ritz / San Juan. Last time I was in PR I went to el Conquistador. It was nice and all but not much to do. And finally don't bother with the casinos. Money pit. Went to every one in all the hotels I visited and biggest win was 3 of a kind or a full house playing video pokerin a week!

Spot-on service at Ritz Carlton

Loved the hotel...clean, spacious room, attentive staff, and the beautiful private beach. It would've been nice if they have a restaurant that is more geographically influenced. They have Il Mulino and BLT Steak, and I am from New York, and we ave those two restaurants where I live. I was in Puerto Rico, and I wanted to taste Puerto Rico.

A plus facilty F service

The Ritz Carlton San Juan is gorgeous, closest hotel to the beach, and very well maintained. The level of service for the price and being a 5 Star hotel was terrible. The facility is located at the Eastern end of Isla Verde (hotel district) which makes it difficult to walk to much. Choices are either get a cab or eat at the ridiculously overpriced on site restaurants. The best part of the trip was the snorkeling in Fajardo (1 hour away). Highly recommend Castillo Tours, concierge was able to book the day. Well worth the money.

Snorkeling with Castillo Tours ask for Captain Robert and Ant. Best day of entire trip. Full day included 2 reefs and an island. Lunch and all Rum drinks included. Very personable locals. Saw dolphins, fish, and caught a barracuda and king fish. Highly recommended.
