Excellent Honeymoon Destination

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel, especially as a romantic getaway. The beach was amazing, the pool, also amazing. Plus, the dining and shopping in the hotel are great. Also, you can book day-trips, like to El Yunque rain-forest &/or old San Juan, as well as snorkeling, so no need to worry about these things in advance.

It was nice

The beds were really comfortable. The outdoor areas were really pretty. There was a pool and just beyond the pool, there was the beach. As far as the closeness to the beach, and the staff, that was perfect. I did NOT like that they charged me an extra $60 for maintenance or that my room with 2 double beds only had one bathroom. Next time I will do something cheaper in the Condado area which is closer to shopping, clubs, and more restaurants plus you still get the beach area.

Perfect 2-day getaway!

The hotel was beautiful and the staff was the best of the best! We had hoped that the rooms would have been a little more chic given the fact we were splurging to stay at the Ritz but the service and location was superb. The hotel is located on a large-beautiful-white-sand beach with food and beverage service at your beck and call! The pool was great too! The perfect place for a quick getaway!

The hotel restaurants are super over priced (even though they're "New York" based restaurants-we're from NY- they're just over priced because they are located in the Ritz on an island!)...a dover fillet served without sides was $72!!! And dover is not a a pricey fish! In NYC at a nice restaurant you'd pay most $25!! ANYWAY, it was still super tasty!

Nice Beach, Decent Room, Average Location

--Stayed at the Ritz Carleton San Juan while attending a friend's wedding in San Juan. --The hotel is located on a nice beach with gentle surf that is generally safe for kids. The beach staff do a good job setting up lounge chairs and umbrellas although they were not particularly friendly during our stay. --The hotel's pool area felt somewhat claustrophobic due to hundreds of lounge chairs tightly packed around it. (**Of note, due to the lameness of the hotel's clientele, most of the pool lounge chairs were "reserved" with towels/sandals/magazines by 7:00-7:30AM only to remain empty until 9:30-10:00AM at which time the owners of the sandals/magazines arrived bloated after a leisurely buffet breakfast.**) --Our room was an ocean-view corner room on the 7th floor and was very comfortable. The bathroom was large and the hot water plentiful. --Housekeeping staff were friendly and did a decent job cleaning the room although on a couple of days the cleaning did not take place until 3-4PM. --The coffee bar at the hotel is adequate, but the Starbucks at the El San Juan Resort and Casino down the road--(within easy walking distance)--is a better bet. --Other than being on a nice beach the hotel's location is suboptimal in that it is far from the quaint Old San Juan area that everyone likes and the immediate surrounding neighborhood is noisy, run-down, and lacks a good selection of interesting restaurants. (Chilis or Outback anyone?!) --Overall, the Ritz Carleton San Juan is good for people with children because of the nice beach, but I wouldn't make a point of returning there unless another friend gets married in San Juan.

Very nice place

The resort is beautiful and well run. This was our second visit (ending 3/4/12). We stayed on the Club Floor, as we had before. The only gripe is the that the food in the Club Lounge is nearly identical every day. It gets sort of boring. Other than that, the place is great.

weighing pros and cons

Overall, my stay at the Ritz was a positive experience. The hotel is 5 minutes from the airport so no time is wasted in transfer. The con to that is the jets you see flying overhead when you are relaxing on the beach. The service is the most friendly and efficient I've ever experienced at a Ritz Carlton despite the overcrowded restaurants, pool and beach area. The hotel itself is a bit tired but is clean and well maintained. The restaurants, BLT and El Mulino are both excellent as well as family friendly - if you can get a reservation. The hotel breakfasts and buffet are average.

Caters to Business Traveler

Enjoyed the grounds, staff, amenities and food...The hotel was very nice and the grounds were luxurious, but it appeared to cater to conference attendees and business travelers rather than the leisure resort traveler. While we were there, the hotel booked a major conference that overtook the grounds and closed most of the pool area off to other guests. Management was responsive to our complaints, but it was unpleasant and disruptive nonetheless.
