Great location but a little shoddy

The staff were very friendly but the room as a whole needed some work. Chairs were soiled and needed to be replaced. I was there for four nights and did not dare to sit on any of the chairs.

Not so friendly as expected

The hotel has good amenities: gym, small pool on the roof, hot tub, restaurants inside the hotel. Would have liked a small continental breakfast for the price. You do get coffee and tea for your room. The hotel is not fancy but the location is awesome. So much to do near by. There were two things that bothered me. First, the welcoming staff at the front desk was quite rude. They were short and direct in their welcoming, not friendly at all and lacked that special touch with the guest. I do have to say, the organizers for the conference I was attending were the complete opposite, nice as can be. Second problem was that I was charged a valet parking charge of $21 when I came in on a taxi, and it was taken care of only after I disputed the charge. Once I arrived home I also had a $50 charge on my credit card. When I called the front desk, I was told that it´s a common practice for everyone. This gets cleared two to three days after you check out. These charges would have not been a problem if the staff had informed me upon arrival. It would have made a great difference if they had at least smiled once in a while. A smile and a kind word takes you a long way.

A few days in San Juan

It does not have the amenities of a resort, but the location is second to none. You can walk to tens of restaurants in Old San Juan. Neat rooms and a terrific fitness center-poll on the top floor are a 10.

Shertaon - Old San Juan

Very comfortable. Nice workout facility and pool. Very good breakfast. Pleasant staff. The location was a little noisy with, being right by the docks, but I had not trouble sleeping and it was nice to be in the mix of so much tourist-centered activity.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Check out the small plaza just soutwest of the San Cristobal Castle. It's got a few hole-in-the-wall places where you can get safe, delicious, authentic Puerto-Rican carry-out, like empanadas de carne and jugo de pacha (maracuyá).

Great location but noisy on the lower floors

Difficult to beat the location for visits to Old San Juan. I was in on a combined business/pleasure trip and found travel to business districts easy and convenient; most of the times travelling against traffic. Only complaint: Hotel's function rooms are popular and noise traveled to my fourth floor room; listened to music until 4:00 AM!

Great Location

I stayed at this hotel when I came to PR for a conference that was being held at the Caribe Hilton. I loved the location, it was easy to walk to all the Old San Juan sights, and easy (though quite expensive) to take cabs to other parts of the city. The room itself was totally average, not anything special but it was great for what I needed. Basically, this is not a hotel that you want to spend a ton of time in, but if your goal is to get out and see the sights, it's a good home base. It's close to a lot of great restaurants as well. The pool and spa on the roof were nice and well-maintained, and I was REALLY impressed with the workout facility, it was great!! Overall, I had a great experience!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Punto de Vista restaurant, just a block or so away from the hotel, is AH-MAZING! It looks like a dive bar, but the food is excellent, they have 2 for 1 delicious mojitos every day, and the owner is full of great travel advice!
