SJ Suites

This hotel was a great choice. The rooms are quite large, clean, and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet allowing for a good sleep. Our host at the SJ Suites was very friendly and hospitable. The hotel is centrally located in Old San Juan and at an easy walking distance to many attractions.

Old San Juan

We had a junior suite and it was basic. A queen bed, wall mounted flat screen TV, a small desk & chair, nice size private bath. I wasn't expecting much after I read through all the reviews. What sold me was the LOCATION! It was walking distance to restaurants, bars, forts, pier & bus station. I like that San Juan taxis have fixed rates to go to the major areas. Raymond at the reception was absoulutely wonderful for giving us ideas on what to do during our stay. Just a few suggestions though, try to put up pictures or paintings in the room, and an ice machine at the lobby area.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Do the Flavors of San Juan History & Dining tour! It's a 2 & a half hour 4 course dinner & drinks taken in a series of restaurants with the guide telling you the history of the buildings and San Juan while you're walking towards your next restaurant. It's $80 each and well worth it. I'm never going to discover those food places if not for the tour! Everything was delicious!

Perfect for short stay

Spent 2 nights as part of a longer itinerary. SJ is in the heart of old San Juan and the location is perfect for exploring this area. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and added to a great trip. No negatives, but point out that room was small and relatively sparten, but clean. Perfect for short stay: would definately return.

Perfect for our purposes

We needed a hotel for one night close to the cruise terminal. This was a great price, we felt very secure, it was clean, and had a very friendly staff. There were no frills, but it was a nice place to stay. The shower water is cold unless you let it warm up for at least 5 minutes. The central location in Old San Juan is perfect.

Don't bother going to "Raices," the authentic Puerto Rican restaurant that the staff recommends. Definitely go to "La Bombonera" though - excellent!

Fit The Need

My wife and I were there because of a cruize. 1. It was the least expensive for walking distance to the cruise port.It is a long walk thru traffic about 5 blocks took my wife and I 15 minutes with pulling 4 bags. Hotel had volunteered to arrange a taxi about $10. We had time to kill and wanted to walk. Also do not be folled by name Suites .. its a small motel room. 2.We arrived after midnight just needed a place to sleep.Room had a mildew smell ,, but beding was clean and fresh. 3. Heart old San Juan. It was , great place to walk from lots of shops and historical items. 4. If stay would have been any longer or we had to spend time in room I would pay the xtra $59 to stay at a name brand hotel.

DISAPPOINTED

The room had no phone. No windows. I woke up and saw a huge black spider crawling down the wall from the ceiling. They did let us hold our suitcases until the cruise and it was convenient to walk in Old San Juan. It had an elevator. If you don't have arachnaphobia and have a cell phone it would probably be ok for singles and young people.

air conditioned and spacious

The desk service was excellent and the man we had was very helpful. He gave us a map of places that were "must see" and places to eat. They also have storage for your luggage until you can check in which was excellent. The room was clean and it even had a futon couch. The hotel looks a little creepy from outdoors but its clean and nice on the inside.
