Once a milestone in modern Caribbean architecture, the fully renovated La Concha Resort crystallizes the essence of retro urban culture on a palm fringed Condado beachfront facing an umber-blue ocean, 15 minutes or less from everywhere.

A rejuvenated 'La Concha' makes a splash in San Juan - Back in its heyday in the 50s and 60s, La Concha Resort was an icon of tropical modernism and Caribbean splendor. Fast forward to 2007. History repeats itself. After a decade-long rebirth, the doors surrounding its signature seashell-shaped dome reopen to reveal a new gem-a hip, seductive and thoroughly refreshed new Renaissance Resort that gives new meaning to the term tropical chic. The strikingly rejuvenated oceanfront boutique resort strikes a pose over the popular palm-fringed Condado beach, just steps away from the recently reborn tourist district's upscale designer boutiques, world-class restaurants and sizzling San Juan nightlife.

Here there are no ordinary rooms. Each of the 248 spacious and stylish habitats is an oasis of creative comforts with voluptuous beds wrapped in luxurious linens, and a fresh modern decor with cutting-edge designer furnishings. Each is appointed with state-of-the-art technology including Ipod/MP3-ready alarm clocks, 42' flat-screen LCD monitors, digital on-demand entertainment and system-wide high-speed Internet access. Most all have spectacular soul-soothing ocean vistas.

The resort's retro urban design is everything today's savvy traveler and Caribbean connoisseur is looking for. The gracious and thoughtfully planned beachfront property includes two swimming pools--one of which is a multi-level infinity edge pool--waterfalls, fountains, a hot tub & Jacuzzi, pool-deck cabanas and landscaped decks, as well as a fully equipped oceanfront fitness center. By day La Concha's lobby is a bright, welcoming sanctuary. But when the sun sets, the boundaries disappear and the indoors and outdoors blend seamlessly. The lobby bar is transformed into the place to see and be seen, where inhibitions magically disappear and guests mingle freely in cosmopolitan style and elegance-until the wee hours.

What is clear throughout La Concha is that Puerto Rican hospitality is the order of the day-all day, every day. The resort's courteous and well-trained staff never disappoints; they work hard to offer intuitive service, anticipate the needs and cater to the whims and desires of every guest.

Restaurants - A feast for the palate as well as the senses, the resort's five eateries nourish the spirit as well as the soul. The dining options include Perla (coming soon), renowned chef Dayne Smith's signature seafood restaurant under the beachside shell dome; Level 25 steakhouse and fresh fusion cuisine; Solera a poolside tapas bar; Maya (coming soon) and the deli Aroma.

A Secret Gem of a Hotel in Puerto Rico

Family Traveler Nov 30, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel when looked at from the road is somewhat deceptive in that you would not even conceive that there is a hidden ... paradise within it's walls. The La Concha hotel is in one word "Paradise" with it's beautiful marble floors and upscale modern decor. The hotel charges a daily fee of around $13.50 which is not bad considering that you can take advantage of unlimited wireless service throughout the hotel, use of a very nice fitness center which is available to you 24/7 as well as 3 pools that are available for your use 24/7. If you have a car you can park it in the hotels parking garage which is around $15.00 per day. You just have to remember to get your parking ticket validated on the first day and you can continue to use the garage as many times as you would like each day. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend this hotel to anyone that is interested in staying in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The beach area that La Concha has designed is just beautiful and is very well maintained. Lounge chairs and umbrellas are setup for you when you approach the beach and have no additional charges attached to them. La Concha is simply the best kept secret of san Juan clean and there are personnel available for any help you may need. In short, pack your bags and make your reservations at La Concha NOW! You will find the atmosphere very relaxing and the beach area one of the best on the island.

Looking at the front of the hotel I never would of paid that much money to stay here, it needs a little work. But the inside ... was more than worth it! There was so much to look at and everything was very nice. The room was the best ever! We had a suite that faced the ocean. The best part was the wall facing the ocean was a huge glass window that the top half could slide open. They have net curtains behind the decorative curtains so you can leave the window open without letting any bugs in. Perfect for sleeping! The bed was awesome too!!! The staff was super!!! They went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The outdoor area with the pool was very nice. There was plenty of seating area in the shade and the sun. The infinity pool was a little smaller than I would of liked but that didn't make me leave it. At night the pool area transforms into this really cool bar/lounge/ restaurant area. There are a few things I wasn't very excited about, like breakfast was high, they don't have airport transportation, and the casino had a high buy in. But... I would definitely stay there again!!!

A Great Hotel at a Good Value

College Traveler Sep 8, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The room was incredibly comfortable. The bed was fantastic (everything was made of down) and the room had a flat screen TV, ... an iHome, and a CD/DVD player along with Internet access even though I didn't have a laptop. A great view of the sea as well. The room could not have been better in my opinion. I loved coming back to it at the end of a long day of exploring San Juan.

pretty but not worth it

hotel was pretty and the staff was helpful. however our suite was facing ugly construction and we could not sit outside on ... the terrace and it was noisy. the hotel claims to have all sports activities close by, however you need to take a taxi to get to them (more costly). and then there is a $40 resort fee a day that you find out at the end of your stay. It is put right on your bill, even if you didn't use anything there! I would not go back there.

Looks bigger than what it really is

shalau Jul 21, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Really nice location and hotel. The room was WAY small and the bathroom had the most un-practical shower ever. There was ... half a curtain so there was water everywhere in the bathroom, and the shower consisted of shower only, no bathtub. The shower had mold in it... Also the valet service was expensive ($20 a day even if you were staying at the hotel) and it was unreliable as well (one day we waited 20 minutes for our car and other people were taken care off before us even though we arrived first). There is a hidden resort charge of $20 a day, so do the math and all that added up to $300 even though we though our trip was completely paid for after using orbitz. However, location was fabulous, they had a bar downstairs that was ubber chic and we had a good time overall.

Money savers tip, Short Walk

There is a parking lot accross the street from the hotel and they charge $8 for 24 hour period. Park your car there and save $12 per day. Also, there is a dunkin donuts next to the parking lot, have your breakfast there for about $4, rather than $15 or whatever it was for a continental breakfast at the hotel. There is also a starbucks about 10 minutes east on Ashford, and for a good value, tasty breakfast you can go to the "latin star (spell???)" pass dunkin donuts.

Wonderful!

Would recommend to a friend!

The La Concha hotel was so modern and chic and it just felt good walking through it. The pools were wonderful. Restaurant ... Solara, sidewalk cafe and room service were all delish. We only had one issue on the first day when front desk was suppose to call us when our room was ready but it seemed they had forgotten, but not a big deal. The wonderful, friendly service we received from the staff throughout the rest of our stay definitely made up for it, such as when they always called us to follow up every time we requested something. Would definitely go back!

The hotel was amazing, very modern looking. I fell in love with La Concha The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would ... definitely recommend this place. The hotel is mostly oriented towards young people. Unfortunately, we were charged for a resort fee for all the days that we stayed there. It wasn't much, but it was unexpected since I thought it was all nincluded with the whole package deal. Otherwise, La Concha was the bomb!!!!! Loves it.

Nice Hotel

Jersey Girl Jun 22, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We stayed at this hotel June 2009 and we were quite pleased with it. The staff was very friendly and helpful, from restaurant ... recommendations to helping with some concerns with our room (the first day the TV didn't work, the third day, the fridge blew out). We weren't that bothered by construction because the location of our room (corner, oceanfront room, 11th floor). We arrived around noon and luckily got to check-in early, instead of having to wait until check-in time. My only issue was that sometimes they forgot to leave certain towels in the bathroom - washclothes or the foot towel for the tub. Otherwise, we were pleased with the condition of our room. The location was great, we were right on the main avenue, and it was only a 20 minute drive into Old San Juan (which cost about $14), and it was also very close to the airport (which cost $17). We were also in walking distance of several good restaurants (Jam, Miro) and hotels/casinos (the Marriott). The pool area was nice and clean, and the hotel is located on the beach, so you can easily go back and forth between the two. There were towels for hotel guests to use there as well. The outside restaurant, Solera was good, but a bit pricey. We did not try the other restaurants in the hotel. The only sticking point was the 'resort fee' that I wasn't told about. It was $16.50 a day. It came to about $82 for our stay, which I didn't budget for, and was disappointed in Orbitz for not telling me about that when I booked the trip.

bad service, undfriendly staff

steve ny Jun 19, 2009

The hotel is nice and the rooms are ok. I only had problems with the service. First, you have to pay an amenity fee of 30$ ... every day for using the pools etc. Can you imagine: you go to a hotel in PR and have too pay extra money to use the pool. Second, when we arrived no room in our reserved booking class was available, although we had called to tell that we'll arrive late. We had to aks three times on the next day, to get an appropriate room. In summary, nice hotel, very bad service

The pool area ... restaurant offers excellent food with a wait staff who will take your order even if you're swimming. Stroll down to the beach located at the hotel and get an incredible view while you catch some rays. The hotel also offers fine dining and a casino. One of the most helpful features is the tour desk and the concierge if you need help finding out what to do and how to do it while you are in San Juan. Excellent!!

Honeymoon getaway

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and the staff is super friendly. One of the problems we had is that when we first got ... there they put us in a different room then we had asked for with two beds. One of the workers [...] was great. The front desk told us that the hotel was completely booked and they would be able to move us the next day. [...] went to the back and spoke with someone after getting us some champagne and he managed to get us this great ocean front suite. Besideds our A/C breaking down 4 times and these daily resort fee charges which you are not told about, our stay was great. The rooms are beautiful and the beds are super comfortable.

Paradise in Puerto Rico

Newlywed Atlanta Couple Jun 12, 2009

La Concha successfully blends South Beach sexy with Paradise Island. From the hotel staff to the local men and women, ... everyone was very friendly. My wife and I loved the location;, the room was amazing, the view of the ocean was incredible, and the vibe was unbelievable! We spent much of our time poolside or at the beach, however, we managed to take in the Bicardi Tour which was worth every penny. The only cons were we had to wait 2-3 hours for our room to be serviced at check-in and the hotel could not accommodate a late check out. Everything else was absolutely great. My only regret is not visiting the rain forest...but thankfully it gives me an excuse to take my wife back next year.

Pretty Good Puerto Rico

The hotel staff was very friendly, super location, great choice. At the end of the stay I was charged 'resort fees' with no ... explanation. I was told my card would be held for charges to the room and next thing you know I'm being asked to pay up. The experience was great and this has not ruined anything. Great deals and offers and assistance!

Dining tip, Short Walk

The hotel has some very nice dining facilities, however, as with all upscale hotels they can impact your budget more then you would like while on a vacation. If you want to eat at locations which will be more economical there are plenty of them within walking distance of the hotel.

10 min drive from the airport, and you will have everything you want for a relaxing weekend.

Traveling to Old San Juan to shop was worth the $15 cab fare.

Dining tip, Short Walk

Ropas Viejios for great food. Also, Buddahthai for asian fusion.

--cxb56, St Paul MN Sep 14, 2009

Money savers tip, Short Walk

There is a parking lot accross the street from the hotel and they charge $8 for 24 hour period. Park your car there and save $12 per day. Also, there is a dunkin donuts next to the parking lot, have your breakfast there for about $4, rather than $15 or whatever it was for a continental breakfast at the hotel. There is also a starbucks about 10 minutes east on Ashford, and for a good value, tasty breakfast you can go to the "latin star (spell???)" pass dunkin donuts.

Dining tip, Short Walk

Take the bus... cabs are too expensive and don't have meters anyways. Recommended eating places: La Bombanero for breakfast, La Casita Blanca for lunch, Budatai and Jose Jose for dinner! I had some of the best meals of my life at these places.

--Traveling Couple, Houston, TX May 12, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

Rent a car from Charlies Car Rental! The price for the week is the cost of one tour and you can park at the resort. Dont' be afraid to drive - get a map and take off for other areas to visit.

--The Smiths, Waynesboro, PA May 11, 2009

Nightlife tip, Short Drive

La Concha is a great lounge! Lots of people claimed that was a place to be, but we found El San Juan to be more fun with more choices in one place. But maybe we could have visited more places in Condado area.

--Cheech, New Jersey May 8, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

There are a lot of High end shops right down the street. My favorite was the Gucci store thats where I purchased a wallet to go with my handbag. I won the $$$ at the casino in the hotel. Play the quater machines I won.
