InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casin
Tropical Travelers Dec 28, 2009
Our family has traveled to somewhere warm every winter for the last 13 years. We chose a resort without all inclusive ... because we sometimes tire of resort food (but never cruise food). The InterContinental had good reviews and was priced right. It is a nice place with all the amenities. Lots of help, great service, super clean, great pool, with a nice ocean location. There is lots of service with a concierge, doormen opening the doors as we came and went, even staff that just happened to be ahead of me would open the door and hold it like I was the king of France, and our room attendant left little notes and towel animals. We have been to many resorts and have not seen some of this. The room had a good shower, lots of hot water, good view (we had a city view and could see planes landing and taking off which was noisy) with a tiny deck. Air conditioning was good, room had a fridge (but no microwave). They obviously wanted you to eat in their restaurants which were very high priced. We did enjoy eating at Yamamoto's in the hotel, which is like Benehana but about 25% higher in price. There were many more reasonably priced restaurants within walking distance including lots of fast food. All in all it was a great week and we would stay there again.

If you go, be sure to see the bioluminescent bays. We had a great trip with Captain Charlie and his electric boat. (better than kayaking) They were very informative and seeing the lights in the water is unbelievable. We also liked an all day snorkeling cruise that we took with East Winds. The boat trip was enjoyable, snorkeling good, the crew was fun and they mixed good drinks.

Old hotel but well run
Mr K Nov 25, 2009
noisy only because of proximity to airport, but not too bad pool area is beautiful, well run, the highlight of the ... hotel rooms were older but clean, service always prompt no real night life if you don't like casinos or sitting at a bar--thought hotel could have used patio or ballroom area for bands/dancing/etc.--bands were crammed in one corner of main lobby bar area Alfredo's restaurant was exceptional--rest of food was good, drinks were pricey ($10 mojito) location near airport was handy, near Old San Juan, which makes a nice day trip, beach was nice but water was full of seaweed, other day trips to other areas were available construction on street and sidewalks all over the place, but never saw one worker--have heard from others than San Juan is always under construction, but it would make for a nicer impression if these projects were completed and it wouldn't take much work to finish them the El San Juan next door has a restaurant called Brother Jimmy's BBQ on it's rooftop that offers a casual, open-air eating experience cab rides aren't too bad--all same company and all rides are a flat rate that you can get upfront--no meter and worry that you are getting taken advantage of definitely recommend Old San Juan--see the forts, some neat shops, some great out of the way bar/restaurants

The hotel is close to the airport and conveniently located near the highway and yet on the beach. The casino was in the ... process of being remodeled, so it was about half its normal size. The service was very good, but there was a serious sand flea infestation by the pool that resulted in all in our party getting seriously bitten to the point that I am considering a visit to the doctor (3 days later)!

This was the best vacation my wife and I have ever had. This hotel was about an hour from most of the places we wanted to ... visit, but each night after the adventures we took, we were back in the pool and hot tub. Celbrated my wife's b-day at the hotel pool in the evening and even had the bar help us learn how to sing happy bday in spanish. What a blast! Things to do: Biolumonesent bay in vieques is a must! catamaran by east winds to the reefs for snorkeling. And you must do the ziplines. We were not disappointed with the radio telescope either.

The hotel was nice by any scale. The beds were extremely confortable. The upgrade to the "Club" or "business center" level ... was worth it for the pool access, but the club room, however, smelled like a musty basement. The doormen were very courteous and helpful, but the front desk staff were not. Apparently the concierge was off for the weekend and no one else seemed to know what to do in his stead. I don't think I would return or recommend, having visited other hotels close by. If the rest of the staff were as pleasant and professional as the front door staff, it would consider returning for the cost. The quality of the breakfast buffet did not meet it's price. I turned in a clean white shirt to be pressed and the dry-cleaning service returned it pressed with burnt starch stains. I am still waiting for it to be shipped back to me in its clean state.

Me and my wife went horseback riding, the hotel was actually very helpful on helping us set that up and getting us a rent ... car. The beach and pool were very nice eventhough the drinks at the pool bar were way over priced and they will not let you bring your own even when the bars are closed. Over all it was a great trip.
Traveler type: Couples
The dining and the drinks in the hotel were way over priced and not very good, and they like to try and charge you for every little thing, there is also a 100 dollar deposit per night that we did not know about, and that took away from our spending money. So I would bring your own drinks and dine some where else!!!

A lot of hotels do not look as good as their pictures online. This was not the case with Intercontinetal. The pics are an ... exact replica of the hotel...BEAUTIFUL. Regarding the staff, from the moment I arrived to the moment I left I was greeted and addressed with with such hospitality. The drinks at the swim-up bar are a must have,i.e. Cocoa de Loco! A room with an ocean view is a MUST have. The food was really good, from the restaurants to the swim-up bar. One extra thing I did appreciate was the security was on site. As opposed to many security guards who walk around with a mean mug on their face and do not respond when you greet them, they did the exact opposite. I was shocked!! I can write so many wonderful things about this hotel but I will stop at this....I WILL DEFINITELY COME BACK AND STAY HERE. P.S. there was an item on my bill that I did not charge. When addressed, conceirge staff removed the charge from my bill. GREAT SERVICE!!

1. Take the bus to Old San Juan. The bus stop is to the right of the hotel and it is only 75 cents as opposed to a cab which will charge you anywhere from $15 to $20. 2. If you suspect you may have lost your room key, let the conceirge know immediately. I lost my room key and by the time I noticed, someone used it and made a charge to my room. 3. The hotel next door, ESJ, has a club on the rooftop and has stores in their lobby if you enjoy shopping. Check it out.

Do not go to Mi Casita in Isla Verde. I have been going to this restaurant for years and the food is outstanding. The wait for the food is always long, but always well worth it. The price is very affordable too. I must say my trip this time was disgusting. The waiters and host were the most unprofessional group of people I have ever seen. Not only did we have to wait an hour to get our food, but our waiter was counting tip money right in front of us. I speak Spanish and I could not believe the racket they had going on. The waiters were actually making fun of their clients. I could not believe the atmosphere. The waiters we laughing with one another and being loud throughout the tiny restaurant. I usually don't complain about this stuff but it was the worst experience ever.
