Historic San Juan hotel blends serenity and sophistication
InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casino has the look and feel of Miami Beach hotels in their heyday. The hotel was designed and built in the late 1950s by a prominent architect and maintains suave sophistication. From the lobby, two grand staircases overlook tall, arched windows, soft chairs and high-backed benches. The lounge is a rich collection of marble, dark wood and candles. Guest rooms are elegant. Canopies of trees, gardens and stone fountains open onto one of Puerto Rico's most beautiful beaches.Highlights
- Located on picturesque Isla Verde Beach
- Historic architecture
- On-site spa and casino

Perfect Getaway
The Intercontinental was a delight to stay at and the staff was one of the best we have ever come across. They were pleasant and always eager to help. I would recommend this hotel to anyone with kids or without kids that was planning a trip to San Juan.

San Juan....InterContinental
Hotel is old but still good. Needs updating. Is convenient to Old San Juan if you want a rough bus ride or expensive taxi on delapidated roads...Hotel staff helpful when they have to be. Maids were loud and did the minimum. Had to ask for more towels every day. Too expensive to eat here but good food nearby. Casino is OLD and outdated and paying nothing on slots. Lot of prom and graduation activity this weekend. Pool and beach were wonderful. For the money, go next door to the El San Juan...much more elegant.

Graduate School Graduation Get-Away May 2012
Met up with 6 other people in San Juan Puerto Rico. Stayed at the San Juan Intercontinental Hotel and Casino. Don't think Vegas when you hear "Casino". A long way from it... Beautiful lobby and grounds. Rooms average. Japanese restaurant awesome as was Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Would have liked to enjoy poolside and hotel food and drinks, but was cost prohibited. I understand things cost more in a hotel and I expected that, but $12.00 for a hotdog. I don't think so. Lots of nearby reasonable restaurants with great food and drinks. Be sure to go next door to El San Juan Resort and Casino for a lively party atmosphere. Cheap city bus ride to Old San Juan which was very nice and interesting. (75cent). Wear comfortable shoes. After my visit to Old San Juan, I would definitely visit again, but would stay on a different island. Watch your credit card charge. I was charged $1600 for my room that I had previously paid in full in January. Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Intercontinental.

Old San Juan. Just take the city bus for .75. Make sure you have exact change for ride there and back. No change made. Wear comfortable shoes. Hilly. San Juan Gate is a must see.

Adult Family Vacation
Although The Intercontinental is a beautifully designed and landscaped hotel, we found its people to be rather lacking in customer service-relate pleasantries. The registration staff was professional, but curt. The bartenders and outdoor waitstaff, mostly young adults, were often more wrapped up in chatting with each other than attending to their guests. The pool and beach bar-restaurant food was the same unimaginative, fairly tasteless food available in any tavern. Tips were never acknowledged or notably appreciated, even when they exceeded the recommended or fixed rate. The housekeeping staff did accommodate one special request made, but we certainly did not feel they went above and beyond to impress. Notable exceptions to this include the doormen, who were virtually all friendly, courteous, an helpful. We felt the same about the staff dispensing towels at the pool. Lastly, on the ay of our departure, we wandered into the gift shop and were promptly greeted and offered assistance from the clerk on duty, who exhibited very friendly, guest-oriented manners. I should mention that our dinner at Ruth Chris Steakhouse on the hotel premises was the best meal we had in Puerto Rico. The food and service was outstanding, but due to the ala carte pricing; it also made for our most expensive dining experience ($500.00 for six adults; including a little wine). This restaurant may be off limits for many families due to the prices. The waterfall-laden hotel pool is absolutely perfect, with plenty of room for the guests all around it. There is a private entrance to the beach if you prefer ocean, and lounge chairs are provided for guests. The specialty liquor drinks are quite good and generously made. Most cost about $12, which seemed average for the area. Finally, the beds in the guest rooms are plush, pillow-topped, and covered with soft, fresh linen. Very nice. Overall, we had a good stay, but much of the hotel staff would benefit from some customer-service training/re-training in order to make an ordinary stay into an extraordinary one.

Observations
Although we heard great things about this hotel from a co-worker, and decided to give it a try. We walked in and we were extremely impressed by the lobby by all the public spaces. When we arrived at 1pm our room wasn't ready. Which wasn't a big deal, the front desk agent took my cell number and we went to grab a bite to eat at the hotel restaurant. They first checked us in to 723, the room was a joke if I could only attach the pictures that took and showed the front desk agent, you would be horrified that this is happening in your hotel. The fridge had mold in very bad shape and in need of an upgrade. The pillows and blankets were stain with white stuff and blood, balls of hair in the carpet; vent hadn't been clean, mold in the bathroom and inches of dust all over the moldings. We were extremely exhausted and I just wanted someone to come and re-clean the room. We got out of the room and went to the front desk to inform them. At that point the extremely nice agent tried to work with the situation letting me know that they are “under renovations “So I guess it’s an excuse for people not to clean. So we were address by the front desk manager who offer an upgrade we told her that we would like to see the room and make sure that we don’t have the same issues and unfortunately this room had a hole in the bathroom floor, hairs on the bathroom corners, when I asked if they could do something with the hole they told us they had to replace the whole floor and it was impossible to do so. Because we were exhausted and didn’t want to deal with this situation anymore we agreed to stay and not look for any more rooms. You would think that after this fiasco they would actually try their best to keep us happy. Well one day we got to our room at 9pm and our room hadn’t gotten service, when I called the front desk they didn’t say much nor offer to send someone to service our room. The service that we got was very minimum, our room never got vacuum nor dusted. The sheets were never change; I had to pull all sheets away in order for them to change them one day. I’m the Assistant Director of Housekeeping for a boutique hotel in NYC, I actually wrote an email prior to our arrival to make sure we didn’t get a smoking room because my boyfriend suffers from extreme asthma. Knowing this about me I would have expected a little more attention to my reservation. This property has so much potential If only the same detail that they place in the public spaces is put in place in the rooms it would make your guest happier.

I just got back from my wonderful four day stay, and let me tell you it was awesome. The hotel staff was very friendly. There was no waiting for anything. The service was terrific. Very affordable. We got upgraded to an Ocean View room for just $80 a night. Great place for family. Me my husband , and daughter didn't want to leave. Can't wait to go back again. I want to give a shot out to Eimy who works at the pool. Great job Ma!

Staff is awesome, rooms not so good!!
We arrived to San Juan at 18:30, staff was warm and welcoming. Check in process was a bit slow but it's in the Caribbean so that's normal. Paid extra to upgrade our rooms thinking that would make a difference with appearance, amenities, etc....not so. Our rooms where nothing like the pictures at all, our maid didn't change our sheets our entire stay (5 nights). She spruced things up a bit and gave us fresh towels but that was about it. I would say the rooms in a motel 6 are much better than the rooms at this supposed 4 star resort. I will not stay at this hotel again. I paid way way to much for our rooms to be so nasty.
