Historic San Juan hotel blends serenity and sophistication
InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casino has the look and feel of Miami Beach hotels in their heyday. The hotel was designed and built in the late 1950s by a prominent architect and maintains suave sophistication. From the lobby, two grand staircases overlook tall, arched windows, soft chairs and high-backed benches. The lounge is a rich collection of marble, dark wood and candles. Guest rooms are elegant. Canopies of trees, gardens and stone fountains open onto one of Puerto Rico's most beautiful beaches.

Great location

They upgraded us to the Continental Club level and it was truly spectacular! A private waiter in the lounge , all day complimentary snacks and then a happy hour with muse bouche , finger foods and beer/wine. Truly a delightful treat. People at the staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating.

We loved it!

From beginning to end, it was a great trip. . The only on site experience that was not great was the spa. I had an "ok" massage and there was no hot water in the shower. It was pretty pricey but I figured there was value in being able to shower after the service, but that didn't happen. The manager was not there and I was checking out the next day. The clerk at the hotel desk assured me that if I email the spa manager, it will be made right. But yes, I would not hesitate to go back or recommend it to anyone! One more thing, traveling during Christmas week meant that we were not able to find tours because they sold out in advance, way in advance. I wish I had known that and I wish the tour desk could offer more assistance or options.

Relaxing by the beach

Had a great weekend at this hotel. The room was nicely decorated and spacious, although the bathroom was on the small side. Service was good, and the beach location and pool facilities were excellent.

Good place for couples or families

The overall stay was great. The staff were especially friendly and took good care of us while we were there. The hotel has easy direct access to the beach and has a great pool and small play ground area for kids. Plenty to do outside the hotel as well- hike in the rainforest,Old San Juan and the castles. Our room was comfortable but the bathroom could have used a bit of maintenance- peeling caulk, counter top was in need of replacing. Be prepared to spend $$$ if you plan to eat in the hotel. There are however a number of restaurants within walking distance.

Couple's weekend getaway

All good. The front desk upgraded to an oceanside room at check-in (Thank you, sorry I forgot to get your name) the rooms were excellent and very quiet, the mini fridge helped us hold down our food and beverage costs, the pool and beach were very nice, although the watersport activities looked limited. OK for us since we're not that ambitious. Wi-fi is available but not free at the hotel. The food and drinks at the beach bar were good and the atmosphere casual. The casino was decent sized with the usual slots and card cames.

It's on the beach and chairs are included

The best thing about the Intercontinental San Juan is that it is on the beach. There's a pool if you prefer. Towels, beach chairs, and cushions are included with the resort fee. As always in these higher end places, wifi is not included. However, free airline check in and boarding passes are available on the third floor. But if you're only there a few days and you want to see San Juan and go to the beach, this is the place.

The bus to Old San Juan is 75 cents. Bring exact change. The ferry to the Bacardi factory is 50 cents. Both are fun experiences.

Always an Awsome Time!

They have a great staff through out the hotel. Their hospitaliy is awsome! The staff at the pool and beach are out of sight! Those Bartenders at the beach are great. The hotel is very clean and well kept. The staff treats you like family. This is my 7th time staying at the hotel in 5 years going to Puerto Rico. It's on top of the list with the Hiltons, Marriotts etc. Thank you for the LOVE!

Not worth the money

The Intercontinental is 10 minutes cab ride from the airport..so you are there for under $15. The hotel is nothing fancy. We had an ocean view room but didn't see an uumph in it. The patio doors are single paned so when u wake up and open the drapes, you see water trickling down the doors and that's your ocean view :( You need to open the doors for the view. The rooms need renovation. The bathroom was very small with no exhaust. TV remote wasn't working well. Bedsheets were crinkly - not the typical soft comfortable hotel sheets. Our room did not cool enough at night. The pool is alright. A drink in a paper glass by the poolside cost me $18. They charge you a default 15% gratuity everywhere so make sure you read your receipt before tipping double. Food was not that great. Breakfast menu is the same every day...blah...basic eggs, omelette made to order, fruits, pancakes and cereal for $27 pp. There are restaurants within walking distance from the hotel, so u have "other" options if you choose. Overall just ok.

Left a lot to be desired

This was our first stay at the Intercontental and it left a lot to be desired. Staff was rude, purchased room upgrade was not honored and other than the buffet breakfast, the food was terrible.

Bad honeymoon experience

It was sad because we were really excited about spending time in San Juan for our honeymoon but it turned out to be a nightmare. After telling the front desk it was our honeymoon, they asked if we'd like a upgrade for just ___ price more per night, with no other cost. we said sure why not! we found out during checkout that there were hidden fees and it cost us like $250 more for the stay there. It's not usual for me to complain but it was just a terrible experience. The "suite" looked like a motel 6, and was really tiny. nothing special and the hotel didn't really have a nice vibe or look to it. plus the last night of our stay, they had trouble with their alarm system, so it was going off for over 2 hours through the morning and we couldn't do anyhting about it. Just terrible, will never go back to PR again, and if so, especially not to this hotel.
