Hotel with historic setting and location in the heart of San Juan
The Hotel Plaza De Armas is for travelers looking to be in the heart of Old San Juan. The coveted location on the Plaza de Armas in the historic quarter is on the same stretch as the San Juan Cathedral and city hall. The blue cobblestone streets of the old city sprawl out in every direction and world-class shopping, dining and entertainment abounds. The hotel's Spanish colonial-inspired lounge is decorated in rich red and gold with warm lighting, leather couches and a bar area.

Pre Cruise Stay
This is the second time we have stayed here and we love it. We booked four rooms and we were pleasantly surprised that they were all together. The location makes this hotel a great value. It is in the heart of Old San Juan. It is close to both forts. If your cruise ship is at the pier in Old San Juan, you can easily walk to it with luggage. It is all downhill. We will stay there again.

Superb Location
My husband, my two teen sons, and I stayed one night at this hotel. Our room had a queen size bed, a twin size, and a futon with a balcony and view of Old San Juan. The room was comfortable and clean with air condition. Although, the refrigerator in the room didn't work. The staff was very friendly. Overall, we would stay in this hotel if we ever decided to visit San Juan again. The location is within walking distance of all the historical sights and restaurants. There is a large parking lot within 5 minutes walking to the hotel. The parking fee is inexpensive. We really enjoyed our stay in San Juan. Driving in Old San Juan is doable as long as you are patient and not in a hurry. We scheduled San Juan for our last leg of the trip so we won't need to be in a hurry to get somewhere else plus it is not far from the airport.

stylish hotel at a great location
The hotel is located right in front of Plaza De Armos. Parking is not included but available in south old San Juan. Overall positive experience.

getaway vacation
My friends, husband and I spent a nice week in Puerto Rico we enjoy sightseeing and shopping in El Viejo San Juan but we were not to happy with our hotel. We got a room in the third floor and the elevator was out of order,I learned that it has been out of order for over a month, we had to carry the heavy luggage up the stairs to our room in a narrow staircase. They were also painting this passages while the guests were walking up and down the stairs.

Unbeatable location for the price
Only spent one night on our way back home from the Dominican Republic. Chose this hotel for it's excellent location right in the middle of Old San Juan. THE GOOD Room has a private balcony overlooking the city. Very friendly and helpful staff. Location, location, location. Very affordable. Was that a California King bed? Everything was very clean. Typically amenities were available. THE BAD The room was very small. The elevator was tiny and slow with a duct taped door, but still kinda cool. The A/C was cold, but the air didn't circulate well. The toilet took way too long to refill between flushes, had to fill the tank manually a couple times since we couldn't wait. SUMMARY We only planned to stay 1 night and knew the room would be small, so we were happy. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for long stays, unless they have larger rooms. We picked this hotel for it's location and we were not disappointed. We only had 1 night due to our planned layover and wanted to be in the middle of it all. This place met that requirement easily!

The Good, the bad and the really ugly
When we arrived there was NO water --the unfriendly staff could not tell us when the water would be turned on, nor did they offer us any bottled water to drink or to flush the toilet, Facility is run down and needs to be refurbished. We would not stay at this hotel again.

My review of Howard Johnson Inn Plaza de Armas Old San Juan PR
VERY CLEAN AND WELL LOCATED. THERE ARE NO RESTAURANTS OR BARS IN THE HOTEL BUT SEVERAL ARE CLOSE. FREE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST IS ADEQUATE. FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL STAFF.WORLDS OLDEST ELEVATOR BUT ACTUALLY BECOMES A POINT OF FUN. CLOSE TO SHOPPING IN OLD SAN JUAN.FAIRLEY CLOSE TO CRUIS PORT. IN GENERAL SASTIFIED.

Nice place to stay
Howard Johonson Inn Plaza de Armas was for me a great choice to have a very good location in Old San juan.I liked that the room was comfortable with adequate space and has a balcony facing Plaza de Armas.The hotel's staff was very friendly and helpt me any time i asked.

El Jibarito restaurant is an excellent place to eat delicious puerto rican's food like mofongo,bistec encebollao and arroz con gandul.It's located only few blocks from The hotel.
