Hotel Miramar - WOW!!!!!!
Hotel Miramar - WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sep 8, 2009
Hotel Miramar is a hidden secret, and I got lucky!!!! I had never been to Puerto Rico, and I didn't want to spend a lot of ... money. Well I discovered this hotel was recently renovated, and it showed!! The hotel is really nice and most things are new. The room was very clean, and my room even had a refrigerator and microwave. So you know I was delighted when they gave me a $100 ATM card which I totally was not expecting, and I took that money and went to the nearest Walgreens and went shopping - WOW!!!!!!!!! They also had continental breakfast every morning. It comprised of watermelon, and honeydew melons, oat meal, fresh muffins (not freshly baked but fresh) and the best coffee. The coffee tasted like the beans had just been picked! The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful!!!! I rented a car while I was there, and I brought my own navigation. Let me tell you, that is the way to go. There were a few problems with the navigation, because a lot of their stuff is in Spaninsh, but keep playing with the words and they all pop up!!! The hotel is located on Ponce de Leon but you need to put Juan Ponce de Leon in the navigation or you won't find it. I rented my car from Charlie Rental Car Company and most of the rental places provide a free shuttle from the airport to theri facility. The car was cheap, like $24 per day, and I drove all over that island. It was great!!!! This was the best trip ever, and I can be a pretty difficult customer, because I like to get my money's worth!!!

When we first arrived at the hotel it wasn't really what I had expected. The area wasn't as nice as I thought, but once we ... went in the staff was super friendly. The hotel is small, but nice its located 10 mins walking distance to the Beach Condada, this beach is small, but it was nice.. At first when we walked into the room there was a bit of a smell, but the room itself was clean and I felt very comfortable there. It has many restaurants nearby and is only a 15 mins bus drive over to Ocean Park and Isla Verde where the beaches are beautiful. I would recommend going on the buses which are only 75cents compared to the cabs which get a bit pricey. People all around are very helpful and are more than willing to help you get to a specific area so you won't get lost!
Traveler type: Friends
Taking the cab over to Old San Juan which is probably 10-15mins away. There are many bars and the nightlife is very nice. We went to Cafe Seda which had a live salsa band and the drinks were very cheap it was a great atmosphere.

Not a good hotel. The staff was friendly but everything else was a sad. They change staff every day and don't think about ... asking them for directions. They give you dirty towels that smell and the rooms are either freezing or hot. They only have 3 parking spaces which are impossible to get in. They lost one of my reservations after I called 2 & 3 months prior to make a request for the beds. Continental breakfast includes hot cereal and bread which they bring out whenever they remember to. Exercise room had 3 machines in it and only 1 towel. Trying to find the hotel was impossible, after talking to other guest I was not the only one that got lost trying to find it with GPS. The only good thing about this hotel is that it's across the street from a good cafe!

The Hotel Miramir is a wonderful little hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is ideal because you are ... just minutes from the beaches and the city of Old San Juan itself. Public transportation is the way to go. It cost .50 to .75 to ride the buses that all lead into the city. Not to mention the trolly is free and takes you all around the city and to some historical sites.

Hotel Miramar staff was friendly, helpful and so accommodating! When I got there, my room wasn't ready (I was early), so they ... held my bags and suggested a local place I could go to get some lunch. When I got back and the room wasn't ready still, they opened the bar for me and sat and chatted giving me some tips for getting around and things to do. The complimentary continental breakfast was cereal, oatmeal, fruit, toast and pastries, as well as coffee, juice, milk, tea... plenty enough to get you started for the day! They also had a menu for other items you could order. Mirarmar is a short walk from Condado Lagoon and just a little further from Condado beach. It was an easy walk of about 10-15 minutes to Condado. It's about a 35 minute walk into Old San Juan, or a very quick bus trip for 75 cents (bus stop is right in front of the hotel). If you do the walk... you can walk along the coast and it is gorgeous! The hotel rooms have fridges and microwaves, the hotel is right near a Walgreens and grocery, so I was able to buy a few things for the room when I wanted them. There are no coffee makers in the room, which is the only downer, but there is a coffee place just next door, or in the restaurant. Definitely recommend this hotel. They are very friendly--calling you a taxi when you want one, or helping with directions and recommendations for everything from where to eat from best tour places.

If you want to bring rum back (and I did--Don Q is my new favorite), don't buy it at Bacardi or DonQ... you can buy it after security in the airport at the Duty Free shop for a little less and you don't have to worry about packing it in your checked luggage and wondering if it will survive the trip. Mine did, but I also got a couple bottles at Duty Free.

The staff was wonderful and courteous. definitely not a "cheap motel" it had all the characteristics of a small, very ... personal, quiet hotel& and the price was definitely a saver's dream. Every staff member we encountered knew English, and were eager to help plan your day! They had a complementary breakfast which included puerto rican coffee. Rooms include microwave, fridge, iron and board and hair blower. The hotel is not in the center of town, obviously, but it is about 15 minutes walking distance from a cute little beach.

We arrived at 11pm. Our room was ready and we had a quick checkin. The initial impression was a musty smelling entry and a ... concern that this smell was going to be a part of our stay. When we stepped into our room, the room was chilled and the smell was gone. The rest of the stay was uphill. From [...] at the front desk, [...] in the main rooms and [...] in the kitchen, everyone was helpful and genuine in making our stay enjoyable. [...] is a hands-on owner and reponsive to our requests. Food in the bar was great, the Puerto Rican people were great and the driving, once you get use to it, was an adventure one has to experience.

The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. This is a family run place, so we saw the same people everyday and ... enjoyed talking to them. It had everything we needed, but is not fancy. Yes, we would have loved to have been on the beach and away from the city noises, but the Hotel Miramar was right by the bus stop, they made arrangements for tours & transportation for us and we had no trouble getting to and from where we needed to go. The flavor and fun with the people there made our stay very pleasant and out of the ordinary for hotels these days. We would definitely go back.

Rocaliza Rain forest Adventure was outstanding and pushed us to our limits physically, but it was so worth it! We are 51 and 60 and were unsure we could handle it, but we did! Also we were so glad we did not try to drive there. It is insane how Puerto Ricans drive!

We went to Old San Juan and all other attractions on the bus and took cabs back to Mirimar. They come fast and people are very helpful with directions. Go to the Bacardi rum tour, El San Juan Hotel and Casino, walking tours all on the bus. The beach is in walking distance. I cant stress how helpful and nice the staff at the hotel was.
