- Area description
- Miramar is, for the most part, a quiet, unassuming neighborhood across the water from Condado. It's a mix of residential community, business sector, and some admittedly shady areas. But Miramar's fortune changed with the arrival of the Puerto Rico Convention Center. An architectural wonder, the center is still putting it's stamp on the neighborhood, but it has already transformed the landscape.
Directions from San Juan Airport: Take Route 26 West to San Juan. Take exit: "Ave RH Todd-Santurce Pda.18-Condado Centro".Turn left at street light. Turn right onto Ponce de Leon Ave (Rt.25). Hotel is at the end of the avenue on your left. Stay on the inside left lane and make a U turn to access the hotel.

Wonderfully Romantic Honeymoon Stay
My husband and I were thrilled with the MIramar! Located in the business district, the all-night diner, post office, bank and grocery store were all conveniently close by. Even the "tourist section" and beach, and Old San Juan were just a short walk away. The cleaning staff did a wonderful job--the room was spotless. The reception staff was so pleasant and incredibly helpful, too. We really enjoyed chatting with them and got great advice about the city, the culture and "must see" places. Also, the view from the sun terrace is amazing! One can appreciate the tropical city-scape, the lagoon, and the ocean. It was the perfect place to enjoy a pitcher of mojitos as the sun set. Staying at the Miramar was a wonderful experience.

Short walk from hotel
From the Miramar hotel, the all-night diner "Los Pinos Cafe" is less than a block away. The food is good, and the prices are reasonable as well. The grocery store, "Pueblo", is about 2 blocks away, and has a delicious dine in/take out specials for under 4 dollars. Breakfast is the best: Ham, eggs, toast, and coffee. The tostones are great there, too.

Acceptable for one night
Pros: (1) There is free parking. However, note that this essentially involves about 6 parking spots on the street in front of the hotel (which are shared with other establishments) and perhaps about 3 valet parking spots in the alley next to the hotel. We were lucky enough to find space in front of the hotel both times we parked, but it seems as though there may not always be available spots. (2) The room had a small fridge and microwave. (3) The hotel has an internet-enabled desktop computer that is free for guests. (4) The area around the hotel has several nice restaurants, catering to a variety of tastes and price-ranges. There were a couple of homeless people around, but the area seemed very safe. The hotel itself has a restaurant/bar, but we didn't try it. (5) The hotel is only about a 10-minute drive away from Old San Juan. Cons: (1) Our GPS didn't recognize the hotel's address. Of course this isn't the hotel's fault--GPS (or Google Maps) seems not to work very well in Puerto Rico--but it made the hotel slightly difficult to find. It might be a good idea to call the hotel ahead of time and ask for directions. (2) Our room had not been cleaned when we checked in at 4:30 PM. Even after it was cleaned, there was a heavy perfumed smell that aggravated both my wife's and my allergies. (3) The mattress on the bed was not comfortable. Overall: The hotel was reasonably priced and acceptable for one night, but I would hesitate to stay there for longer.

My wife and I highly recommend the Los Pinos Cafe, which is very reasonably priced (e.g., $20 for food and beverages for two people), has excellent food, and is located very close to the hotel (ask the desk clerk for directions). We ate there twice. The papaya shake at the cafe was truly excellent--I cannot recommend it highly enough! We also ate at a restaurant named Lima (which, as you might suspect from the name, serves Peruvian food). This is a fairly expensive restaurant. The food was good, but the service was sloooooooow.

Nice and cozy hotel
Staff was extremely friendly and the restaurant at hotel had typical Puerto Rican food that was delicious. If you want an intimate getaway hotel, this is it. It's cozy and away from the main strip so it's not very busy.

Great Price for Wonderful Hotel
We loved this small, charming hotel! We wanted to stay near the port following a Caribbean cruise. The Hotel Miramar was a short cab ride from the port. We arrived at 11am and did not have to wait for the room. It was the perfect choice. The hotel was charming with great service. The room was delightful. It was cery clean and much larger than expected with a king size bed, spotless bathroon, sitting area, and a lovely street view. The hotel offers free internet service in the lobby area. The restaurant was very nice and the food was delicious. The chef interacted with guests and accommodated their menu choices. The hotels offers a complimentary breasfast. We paid fifty cents for a 5-10 minute bus ride to Old San Juan which is a must. Old San Juan was a high point of our vacation. The taxi ride from the hotel to the airport was fifteen dollars plus a dollar per bag. We will definately return to the Hotel Miramar the next time we are in San Juan.

Pass on dining at the hotel unless its something simple like fish and chips. I ordered a halibut and the best part about it was that it was cooked. I wouldn't go back to order anything that take time and experience like fish or steak.

Hotel Miramar - WOW!!!!!!
Hotel Miramar is a hidden secret, and I got lucky!!!! I had never been to Puerto Rico, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. Well I discovered this hotel was recently renovated, and it showed!! The hotel is really nice and most things are new. The room was very clean, and my room even had a refrigerator and microwave. So you know I was delighted when they gave me a $100 ATM card which I totally was not expecting, and I took that money and went to the nearest Walgreens and went shopping - WOW!!!!!!!!! They also had continental breakfast every morning. It comprised of watermelon, and honeydew melons, oat meal, fresh muffins (not freshly baked but fresh) and the best coffee. The coffee tasted like the beans had just been picked! The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful!!!! I rented a car while I was there, and I brought my own navigation. Let me tell you, that is the way to go. There were a few problems with the navigation, because a lot of their stuff is in Spaninsh, but keep playing with the words and they all pop up!!! The hotel is located on Ponce de Leon but you need to put Juan Ponce de Leon in the navigation or you won't find it. I rented my car from Charlie Rental Car Company and most of the rental places provide a free shuttle from the airport to theri facility. The car was cheap, like $24 per day, and I drove all over that island. It was great!!!! This was the best trip ever, and I can be a pretty difficult customer, because I like to get my money's worth!!!

Las Plazas Americanas is the place to shop in Puerto Rico!! Everyone who is anyone is this mall starting Thursday until Sunday!! It is huge and packed with most stores the USA has. I spent most of my time watching people and how they interact and of course shopping!!!!
