First in Puerto Rico

Loved the location of El Concento; I was able I walk to all the historical sites and was less than 2 blocks away from the fortress walls! It was a great spot to hot restaurants and get to experience Old San Juan. If you want the beach though, this is not the hotel for you. The pool is small, and you would have to get on the bus to reach the beach. It simply depends on what sort of experience you are looking for. It is not a "resort" hotel but you can't beat the history it has!

Spur of the moment decision...no hurricanes predicted

All the reviews made this Hotel a must. It was like being at a Caribbean Raffles. Wide terraces on every floor, overlooking the central restaurant and courtyard. Potted plants in abundance. The well-appointed rooms left nothing to be desired.. Private courtyards a bonus, as was the roof-top Jacuzzi and plunge pool. All this right in the heart of the delightful Old Town.

Great Hotel !

This hotel is very charming. The rooms are clean, the staff is very accomodating and the location is perfect! It's right in the center of shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and site seeing. I traveled alone and felt very safe at night. The only drawback for me was no beach. I had to take a taxi to the beach and the taxi drivers are not honest when charging cab fare.

Relaxing vacation of my dreams

The ambiance with the inner courtyard filled with plants and trees was lovely. The employess were gracious and helpful. They had a room by the checkin to store my luggage after checkout since my flight didn't leave till the afternoon. The room I reserved wasn't available the day I got there, but they had it the next day and moved all my luggage for me while I was on a tour. The room had a high ceiling, flat screen TV, fresh plants, super comfy bed, clean bathroom, Aveda toiletries, and twice daily maid service with turndown & chocolates at night. The location was great for day trips and nightlife, (El Batery on the next block had the best prices for drinks and open till...? I still spent a good amount on cab fare and transportation for activities and some nightlife, but hey, all the good things aren't in one place. You can walk to El Morro and El Cristobal Forts , and there is a little square with tasty food, try the Arepas con camarones, sort of like a fried corn pocket filled with shrimp, delicious, and of course piraguas (gelatos/snow cones). The El Picoteo had tasty food, and the wine and cheese reception every evening was a lovely way to meet guests from all over the world and exchange travel tips. The only thing missing from this hotel is a beachfront and it would be perfect! This was the trip of my dreams, and even though I don't usually spend this much for a hotel, I don't regret it. I hope to return someday!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

El Morro, the Old Gate, Paseo de la Princesa and San Juan Cathedral all close by. There is usually someone in the little park facing the entrnce playing guitar and singing something lively or romantic. On Saturday watch the oodles of wedding processions trooping and out of Old San Juan Cathedral where J Lo and Marc Anthony got married. Ponce de Leon's remains are there as well as St. Pius.

Classic

This was an old Convent. 24 hrs of good coffee meant I was constantly wired. They had wine and cheese at 6-7. The cheese was pretty good. Not just a plain selection. People that worked there were very helpful and friendly. I was there during the rainy season and they had umbrellas you could borrow which was great. It was in a good location, close to a lot of old San Juan fun. If you're looking for a good beach, there is none close by. You either need to get a cab to their sister hotel or walk about 25 minutes. I walked it, didn't mind. Their pool is small but good enough for splashing around. And they have a nice hot tub you can sit in while enjoying the view of the church across the street. If you're looking for a classic looking hotel that is relaxing, this is the place.

Cafe El Punto. 105 Fortaleza St. This is at the end of the hallway with some shopping inside. Excellent PR food. I think it's only open for lunch. Not fancy or romantic but if you want a taste of the local food it's good for that.
