Great Hotel !

This hotel is very charming. The rooms are clean, the staff is very accomodating and the location is perfect! It's right in the center of shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and site seeing. I traveled alone and felt very safe at night. The only drawback for me was no beach. I had to take a taxi to the beach and the taxi drivers are not honest when charging cab fare.

The Best of the Best

Walking distance to all that is Old San Juan, from the museums to food! The staff is wonderful and very glad to help in any way. This is clearly the best hotel in the old city. I have stayed there before and will do so again.

Best of old and new

I loved the hotel. It's really beautiful and the staff is wonderful. However this is not the greatest hotel for single people or families. The pool is small and there is no room service. There are two great things though that are good for singles. Old San Juan has some great restaurants near by especially the tapped bar across from the hotel with flamenco dancers on Friday and Saturday nights. If ur single make sure to visit in high season and check out the sister hotel, La Concha for some gambling, great nightlife, pool, beach and a very modern twist. Stating at EL El Convento you get the best of both worlds.

Great Hotel; Some Spotty Service

The hotel is beautiful with lots of interesting history. Its location is right near great shopping and restaurants in Old San Juan and just a couple of blocks from the El Morro fort. Our room was very nice, looked out on the plaza/park. Particularly enjoyed the 6pm wine reception with quite a variety of drinks and a lovely patio setting to watch the sun go down. Breakfast was good and service there was excellent. Our visit did start off a bit negative. We waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for the hotel to deliver our luggage. I called the bell captain several times and the phone would just ring and ring with no one answering. I finally went down to the reception desk and they started pursuing the lost luggage. It turned out it had been misdelivered to the wrong room. So a negative start to a good stay.

Old Spanish Charm in a lovely setting

Set in the heart of Old San Juan, the hotel had the feel of old Spain. Lovely terraces with lots of tropical scenery. A complimentary wine reception with cheese and fruit was held each evening on the third floor terrace. Not only was the setting and view lovely it provided an opportunity to socialize with other guests. The staff was very helpful in booking reservations for excursions. During the trip, my daughter became ill and the hotel staff was very helping in getting a doctor to come to the room. We ate in two of the on site restaurants and both the food and service were excellent.

There is no beach in Old San Juan, but the hotel will give you a letter of introduction to its sister hotel La Concha, where you can enjoy its pristine beach & all that resort's amenities. Worth the trip for a beach day.

San Juan...Fastastico!

The Hotel El Convento is in the heart of Old San Juan, just steps from the 2nd oldest church in the New World, the Cathedral de San Juan Bautista and down the hill from El Morro - the Spanish fort. The hotel was service was excellent and everyone was extremely friendly. The best part of the day was from 6:00 - 7:00 pm, complimentary wine and cheese hour on the 3rd floor patio. The only drawback on the experience was the rain in San Juan and the drip in our room, which the staff responded to as best they could.

The bartender/manager of the El Picoteco, the tapas bar in the hotel is terrific. Super knowledgeable about rum and drinks. He let us taste a few rums and was then able to tell us which were the best deals and where we could pick them up. Definitely worth stopping by the bar just to chat with him for a bit

A Unique and Fun Puerto Rico Destination

If you are looking for a unique Puerto Rico experience, that is also a more traditional, authentic one, El Convento will not disappoint. The architecture and decor is georgous and the hospitality is wonderful. The front desk was helpful and friendly with what ever questions we had. Old San Juan has planty to see and do. We walked to El Castillo San Felipe del Morro, which is perfect for an afternoon picnic. There are great places to stop for a bite to eat. We reccommend St Germaine for delicious salads and sandwiches, with excellent Tiramisu. While walking around Old San Juan is easy to do, there are numerous things to do that are only a short drive away. We felt comfortable renting a car and driving on our own to explore. My husband went Tarpon fishing with "Magic Tarpon", we snorkled and went zipling with "El Yunque Adventures" in the Yunque Rainforest. By far, aside from enjoying a relaxing vacation with my husband, the best excursion on my trip was the ziplining. [...] and [...] are extremely saftey concious and educational.
