Doubletree was amazing

The staff, the grounds and the room were just amazing. The pool needs a tad more sun to warm it up a bit - but it was November :-) We stayed a Friday and Saturday before our cruise and the day we returned to port we had about 5 hours before our flight. They welcomed us back, stored our luggage and let us hang out at the pool. Not to mention allowing us to print our boarding passes. We would definitely stay there again.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Grocery store across the street has salads, plate lunches, sandwiches, etc. Really an inexpensive meal that tasted just fine. Especially when we ate at the picnic tables around the pool area.

Clean but staff and bed comfort below par

The property was clean and it was a nice touch to be greeted with a cookie. But the check-in staff were not friendly. At first I thought it was because they had several people checking in (three other couples). But later when it was quiet, another couple we were with asked for a copy of the Que Pasa (sp?) magazine listing restaurants, etc., a gentleman told them there was one in their room, they were just overlooking it. When staff was told it was not in the room and they would like a copy of it, they were not given one. The room we were given was nice and clean but cramped. The bed was VERY uncomfortable. Too soft and squeaky. Next time I will try someplace else.

Doubletree

If using a GPS make sure you search for the Best Western Hotel since that is what it used to be. Hotel was pretty nice and clean except for the pool which had leaves and hair in it. Front desk clerks were always talking to one another and sometimes acted like you were a burden if you needed something. However, Juan from the front desk was overly friendly and helped us out a lot such as recommending places to eat and activities. The location isn't too bad but if you're wanting a beach atmosphere would recommend staying down toward Carolina/Isla Verde but for the price it was excellent. I did not like that you had to walk through a couple establishments to get from the parking garage to the hotel.

Nice Hotel

This hotel is very nice for the price. Rooms, pool area, and customer service were excellent. The reason I gave three stars is due to the distance from the beach. It is a five minute walk from Condado Beach however that beach is not maintained very well. It's a twenty minute walk to the east end of Condado Beach which is a lot nicer. Adventure packages offered by the hotel were nice. Awesome hotel but if you're a beach bum I'd recommend paying a little more to stay closer to Isla Verde beach.

Excellent, Clean Hotel & Great Service

Our stay at the Doubletree was excellent. The rooms were very nice, clean, and large, including the convenience of a microwave, fridge and safe. All of the hotel employees were extremely friendly and helpful, with special thanks to [...]. The hotel had a nice pool and lounging areas. The hotel computers (5 in total) worked very well. Overall the hotel had an impressive design and decor (lobby and rooms). We would definitely stay again. We would highly recommend you ask for your authorization to visit La Concha Resort (Doubletree's sister hotel) which is approx a 20 minute walk. You get to enjoy all the splendid benefits offered at La Concha resort, like: private, beach, towels, chairs, umbrellas, awesome pools and lounge areas. You can even charge your room at the Doubletree for any lunch or other purchases at La Concha. And all this for a third of the price....without settling for much less comfort or style! The Doubletree is located across from a large grocery store, which has anything and everything you could need. In terms of site seeing- we suggest visiting Old San Juan. The streets and shops are very quaint and a pleasure to stroll through. Seeing the Fort Cristobal in Old San Juan is also suggested, as it is an historic landmark. We don't recommend visiting the Rain Forest. We found that it was not as grand or impressive as they hyped it up to be...save your $62 per person and spend it somewhere else. If you are into shopping, then you should visit Plaza Las Americas which is the largest mall in the Caribbean, however I did not personally find it any different than shopping in any other mall in the USA, however the mall was very nice and large. In terms of restaurants, I would definitely recommend you visit Mojito's in Old San Juan for some authentic Puerto Rican Mofongos. They are a 3 inch plantain pate filled with your choice of pork, beef, chicken, or crab....I recommend the chicken and pork... prices are reasonable (approx $15-20/person). Another restaurant is Cafe Bebo's in Condado; its prices are very reasonable and its food is pretty good – try the Alcapurrias –they are a deep fried breaded beef stuffed appetizer that is delicious, especially dipped in the mayo-ketchup sauce. If you want to spoil yourselves with gourmet experience, visit Niche restaurant also in Condado. Niche is in the Acacia hotel. It is a small, romantic restaurant; however it is on the pricey side. ($50-$60/person). We recommend the mussel, and mango salad for appetizers and the lamb for the entree. You can easily share these plates with 2 people.Hope you enjoy yourselves as much as we did!

Back aches from mattress

Very nice hotel. The mattress was terrible. We both had trouble sleeping. Had backaches. A different mattress would have made a great stay.
