Beautiful Beach!
Barb & Jeff Nov 29, 2009
Hotel was very nice, especially for the price. A little noisy because of proximity to airport, but the beach more than made ... up for it - just beautiful with plenty of chairs/hammocks. Pool area was nice too, but was mostly shaded so we spent our time on the beach. Restaurants had typical hotel food, but great service. Ate at Platos walking distance from hotel and was wonderful.

Overall, a wonderful place. City/ocean view was horrible. We upgraded to full ocean view and it was fantastic. Enjoyed the ... beach, pools and Old San Juan. Would have been nice to be closer to alternative restaurants and Old San Juan. Airport noise, but otherwise, quiet.

One of the best resorts on Isla Verde
Flamenca Oct 24, 2009
Cannot say enough about the hotel. The staff, food, casino, and music in the evenings were definitely 4 star. There was a ... business center where we were able to use the laptops to print our boarding passes and receive faxes. We did have to pay to park our rental car which I did not account for. Also, you can hear the planes when they take off. But that stops at night.

We enjoyed our mini vacation to the fullest. The casino and the pool/bar was the best. I would recommend this facility to ... all my friend and family in the future. We only stayed four days and that was not enough time to tour everything. The Bacardi Factory I recommend as one of your tours.

Good value for Isla Verde
Steve-o Sep 21, 2009
This was a good enough, clean enough hotel on a very nice strip of beach on Isla Verde. Only minutes away from the airport, ... we got there around midnight and was greeted by very friendly staff on night one. We got into the room and it was clean and spacious with a fridge, dvd player and flat screen tv. The only negative of the room was that though we had a good view of the beach we had an obscured pool-area view because the room was on the third floor. Second night was a bit of an issue as we were playing blackjack and making money and causing a ruckus - they used our hootin' and hollerin' as their excuse to kick us out when we were hot. This maybe the biggest knock on the hotel and casino during our stay (though the list of things we did not like was very very short). However, casino pitbosses being angry with you was not limited to just our casino as we hot in the Ritz Carlton next door and got nothing but dirty looks and curt responses to questions from their surly middle aged pit bosses. Otherwise, our hotel was just fine - 24 hour fitness room with enough stuff to keep you in shape (not to be confused with a gym), 24 hour pool and hottub, attentive and friendly staff, 24 hour business center with 3 computers and a tour desk person who was very helpful. Included in our check in was 3 complimentary drink coupons, 25 dollars of match play money for the casino and some coupons for discounts for tours and excursions. We had friends who stayed at the Ritz Carlton and if we had to compare the two hotels to other hotels we've stayed at, the Ritz Carlton would be the Bellagio and the Courtyard by Marriott would be the Trop.

A short drive to anything - local bars and restaurants (Metropol across the street from the Ritz Carlton made Spanish food as good as my mother-in-laws cooking), other hotel and resorts (I don't remember being at Brother Jimmy's in the El San Juan because I was passed out in a drunken stupor in my plate of ribs), the hotel bars of Condado, adult entertainment on Ave Ponce de Leon, and all the great historical, cultural, food, drink and dance options Old San Juan has to offer (a 15ish minute drive).

POH Sep 10, 2009
Very nice hotel and staff. I would say the only downfall is that the pool was not very clean. It is extremely convenient to ... everything you would need. It is also located RIGHT next to the airport, so one should anticipate the noise. Otherwise the grounds are lovely, with their hammocks and pool area located right on the beach :)

When leaving the hotel to look for Entertainment, go to your RIGHT as the hotel is the last hotel on the beach. There is nothing to the left of the hotel except one other public beach.

Hotel needs major upgrades
honeymooner Sep 7, 2009
The best thing about the hotel is it's location on the beach. Other than that it is overpriced and outdated (the rooms ... especially). I guess in some regards it can be considered average, but for the price I would expect a cleaner, upgraded hotel. The staff is nice enough, but other than the location, there was nothing special about it. If anything it needed a lot of work

VERY DISAPPOINTED! Sep 3, 2009
2nd time there and was disappointed this time.Called hotel night before to confirm my stay (3persons 1room), when I got there ... they claimed my child(13yo) was not included and was railroaded to upgrade which was cheaper then to pay for the extra person, a child. I was also sitting at a table having drinks and food at the Picante and embarrassed in the middle of my drinks that we had to be moved because the Casino manager (Sam) wanted the table for his guess which was not occupied at all during the time i remained at Picante(2hrs).Lack of imenities for 3 persons, garbage was left at our room for 2 days and we removed ourselves. Soda machine was not filled and had to go to another floor to buy sodas. I will not come back even though I must say that the one thing I loved about it that made me return was the service by the pool and beach side. But I think it's time to look elsewhere.

We enjoyed ourselves so much at this hotel that we plan on returning even though the Parking Garage had issues. When you ... enter the property, you press a button to recieve a parking ticket, then have the ticket validated to your room number. Once this is done you should be able to use the same parking ticket to enter and leave the property for the remainder of your visit, charging your room each time (at a lower rate than casino visitors). When we left the first time, we inserted the ticket and were allowed to leave, and the ticket was given back to us. The next time we came back to the hotel, inserting the ticket did nothing and we ended up having to press the button for a second ticket. We told the front desk and they assured us that the gate is working correctly but they would validate this ticket for us to use. The next time we left, the gate let us out, but kept the new ticket. The exact same thing happened each time we came back to the hotel and left. No explanation could be given as to why we were having the problem, but we watched as other guests had the same problem. It was very irritating to go through this each time we left the hotel. A second problem we had was due to Orbitz offering guests that stay at least 4 nights, 2 of those nights free. Once I completed my online order for 4 nights, the confirmation sent to us from Orbits quoted our 'total cost' for 4 people, 1 room, 4 nights. The hotel told us that the Orbitz price was only for the first 2 guests and they would need to charge us an additional $50 plus tax per night. This has yet to be rectified.

Great place to stay!
Puerto Rico 1st timers Aug 24, 2009
This resort almost gets an A. The staff is friendly and most helpful. The room I stayed in was very clean, comfortable, and ... kept well. Could have had a better working refrigerator and the origianl iron didn't work very well, but it was replaced quickly. There was no DVD remote, but with a phone call and a tip to maintenance, that was taken care of too. The restaurants in the hotel are a bit pricey, but the food is quite tastey. Wonderful breathe taking view of the ocean, but I guess that's what comes with staying in a junior suite at a beach front hotel. It's a short walk away from other restaurants in the area, but not as close as some of the other hotels. The only real issue I had was in the early morning on my check out day, they slip my final billing chanrge under my door, and I saw that they had tried to charge me and extra $25 + taxes per night for a 3rd person staying in the room. When I booked through Orbitz they knew how many people were staying. My wife, myself and our 11 year old son. Ofcourse, I disputed this, and to the Service manager on duty's credit, she credited back what was charged. My saving grace was that I had an 11 year old which still qualifies as a child with hotel policy. I read the reviews before I booked this vacation stay, so I wasn't too surprised about the charge. There have been others who have had to go through this ordeal. Just be ready for it, your situation calls for a third person to stay in the room. They argue that Orbitz notifies you under the terms and conditions about the third person charge, but I never read anything like it. If this is true, then Orbitz needs to do a better job on their site. If they know how many people are traveling, then they should be charging appropriately so that there are no unhappy surprises. Oh well, aside from this small incident, I would absolutley recommend staying at the Marriot Isla Verde Beach Resort.

Nice hotel
Just married couple Aug 24, 2009
Very nice hotel. However, we arrived & no one was there to offer to carry the bags to the rooms. I had asked for a romantic ... package of wine and fruits to be deliveried to my room prior my arrival and breakfast in the morning to surprise my husband. This was our honeymoon trip and there was nothing waiting for us when we arrived and no breakfast in the morning was deliveried either. The manager sent it later in the afternoon as courtesy but I didnt want it anymore. Beside this incident, the hotel has a very nice environment for adults including the life salsa bands playing all night. Great beach and pool but food is tooooo expensive. We ate out of the hotel must of the days we stayed.

The nightlife at the Hotel San Juan is great. It has a very nice disco and the lounge is great for mid 30s. The nightlife at this Courtyard hotel is more for 50+ age people.
