Area description
There is no place quite like a tropical volcanic island, and no island in the Caribbean quite like Puerto Rico. The geography of the island is very unusual, as it encompasses distinctly different kinds of topography and microclimates in a relatively small area. A rugged mountain range runs across the center from east to west, which often prevents rain clouds from passing to the south. The north side of the island is covered by dense vegetation, limestone formations, and rushing streams, while, the south side is sun-toasted terrain, home to tropical dry forests and many species of exotic birds. Puerto Rico is only about 100 miles long and 35 miles wide, so its most distant points are only a three-hour drive apart. It also means that just about every tropical landscape in existence is a short trip from wherever you happen to be.

Wonderful Family Getaway

We were 7 people and had a great time. Outside area is terrific. Dining is so so except for Lemongrass which was great. It would be easy to improve some of the things that were not the best. No nightlife. Spa not very clean. Water in pool is too cold. Take a cab and travel in the area for things to do and places to eat. Weather is fantastic always. Check all bills - there are errors and if you have a package you must check to make sure they credit you.

Very Satisified

This was the perfect accomodation for myself and friends. We are not super high end, but also want to stay somewhere a little better than just "nice". Great price. Great location. I LOVED the mattress! Staff was polite. Drinks and food were more expensive than I think they deserved to be. Lots of shops and starbucks are convenient within the lobby. Overall, we had a great stay. I love how there is a pool and small beach option, depending on what kind of water you would like to be in. The pool is freezing and the hot tub is barely warm, but I am not hard to please . The beach area had warmer water. I would definitely stay here again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

It was hard to find food open late. We arrrived late and were starving. However, a short walk or taxi ride to the neighboring sister hotel of the Conrad and they had delicious chinese food open until 4 a.m. and its located at the casino. It was so good, we went twice.

Great place to stay for all ages

I love the location, beaches, and amenities. I wished that there were more food choices. The staff is very nice. There is a convenience store, where a big bag of Doritos would cost you $6.42!

Nice place

The Caribe Hilton is the first or one of the first big tourist hotels in San Juan. It shows its age here and there and could use a little sprucing up. It's not a hotel for perfectionists, but it's very close to Old San Juan, has good pool and beach facilities, a very helpful and friendly staff, great views, and is within walking distance of some good restrauants near the Conrad Hotel. Except for a nice cafe where you can get a good drink and a generous lunch, and an excellent breakfast buffet, its own restaurants are only so-so. The Lemon Grass, for example, which we loved last year, was awful this year. And there's Morton's Steak House, which has good steaks but is very noisy. In short, reasonably priced, close to OSJ and good restaurants, great staff, good swimming. Will go back.

If you don't mind spending a lot of $$$ and want a very fine continental meal, try Pikayo at the Conrad. Nearby Ropa Vieja is very good for local food--much better than the Metropol.

A great vacation

The Hotel Caribe Hilton is located conveniently for a range of activities and is very well run. The Staff are very helpful(the Concierges particularly) and are smiling all the time. My only concern was the price of drinks at the bar - quite high. Otherwise it was excellent value for the money and highly recommended. The absence of a casino was a major plus in my opinion.

Old San Juan is a delightful attraction with lovely old forts, great walking paths along the wall and fine restaurants. It is a 40 minute walk along the ocean-side with a nice breeze from the hotel and a 50 cent bus trip. Or a $14 cab trip - choose your mode!

Wonderful Location and Beach Area

While our room, view and beach was very wonderful, the food and drink prices were outrageous. Also, after asking that the room be cleaned one afternoon (our son had been sick all morning), the front desk did not seem interested in the reguest and, sure enough, the room had not been cleaned upon our return later that evening.

Relaxing winter break

All hotel personnel were always very polite and responsive. They were very helpful in informing us about sight seeing and places to eat outside the hotel. The hotel restaurants served great meals too. There was something for all ages to do and enjoy. The location and atmosphere are wonderful!

Not for Adults

This hotel is too big and is not for couples looking for a quiet relaxing vacation. Lots of kids and lots of noise. The hotel lobby was filled up with people checking out on new years eve and they were sleeping on the couches and every chair was taken. We had no where to sit waiting for our room. Also no casino that was a drag having to take cabs every where. All in hotel restaraunts were buffet stye for breakfast and very pricy. You have to get a cab everywhere from here.
